I totally agree about it being better than the last few years. If you compare it to EA's last few efforts on Xbox/PS2, the 360 version is a significant improvement, at least to me.

I played two games with 5-minute periods and here's what I saw with the adjusted slider settings.

Okay guys, based on your collective recommendations, this is what I'm going to try:
--Aggression at to zero.
--Hook effectiveness at max.
--Poke check at max.
--shot block at max.

Maybe you guys are using slider settings that somehow negate some of what I was seeing. I had aggression turned all the way up--do you guys have poke check, hook, and checking effectiveness turned all the way up as well?

The reason it's a gamekiller for me is that I noticed it in the first fifteen minutes I played the game. That's why I did those tests to start with (because I wanted to make sure I wasn't imaging things)--I was getting point-blank shots on Superstar difficulty whenever I wanted to, and the CPU was ...

The only reason I try to test something out to some degree before I play it is because I'll invest 50+ hours into a really good sports sim, and I've gotten burned so many times after 5-10 hours by finding some kind of gamekiller that I just can't stand. So before I start setting up a franchise, etc ...

PK, did you watch the show, and if you did, was it convincing in terms of the documentation it presented?

EBGames sent me an e-mail telling me that they'd shipped the 360 version of NHL2K7 last night, so at least that version seems to be shipping.

I'm not really happy with this nugget from the IGN review:

One thing I think they should have done this year was map shooting to the right analog stick. That was a significant design improvement by NHL.

Sully, I don't get it. Those skating animations are like silk--they look real to me. What looks so outdate?

It's available on the marketplace now. One period in length. The new skating animations are excellent and so are the sound effects.

Just take a look at the animation of the ball in the gameplay video--in that early highlight of Nash making the 3-pointer, they show a replay and the ball moves HORIZONTALLY ACROSS THE FLOOR at one point (it would be about a foot in the real world) and then goes back up into Nash's hand.

I think The Show was better than NBA2K6, but The Show (on the PSP) was the best sports game I've seen in years. NBA2K6 on the 360 was very polished, I thought. And except for the training mini-games, I thought it was well balanced with the proper sliders.
