How is it not a 'next-gen' game?

I'm just not sure what you mean by that comment?
Let me help you then

Now lets not even talk about gameplay yet because we have not played the games but just from a visual perspective I think the above screen shots should explain what I was trying to convey. Gameplaywise some people will love and hate both.

I played both last year and prior last year had been a 2K guy since the Dreamcast...But LIVE's next gen effort, although coming up short in numerous areas, was still impressive IMO.

2K6 on the other hand was a ported version of the current gen game and it appears they are still staying with that formula. The gameplay in H2H (which is the only way I play) was terrible because everything in the game was predicated on fastbreakin and dunking.

LIVE had its own set of problems but at the end of the day I'd rather have a true next gen game attempt as opposed to a lackluster port up to a next gen console...Thats just me tho. To each his own.

I think we found the one person on the planet that thought Live was a better game than 2k last year. Congrats bro...you're one in 280+ billion.

Naw bro...plenty of people were disenchanted with 2k6..maybe you franchise "I play by myself" cats were ok cause the game played perfectly vs the CPU..But in H2H...straight garbage...Thats of course if you think fastbreaks and dunking all game 70 times in a game is cool...

I played on HOF and utilized all the game features to limit fastbreaks etc but the bottom line is the game was terrible H2H.

Both games IMO had huge problems but for me when I actually sat down to play I found that LIVE'S attempt at next gen even with its shortcomings was just a more enjoyable game for me..Not sayinmg it was better or worse..Just sayin "I" enjoyed it more than 2k6 and this is coming from a guy who had not played LIVE in like 6-7 years...hated it since 1999.

BTW...If you step outta your comfort zone here you would see that a few other opinions saw Live as the better game...Case in point:

1UP.COM

1. http://xbox360.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3145773&did=1

2. http://xbox360.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3145672&did=1

personally I could careless about reviews but I just wanted to address your erroneous comment.

Afro.....no worries...it is nice to have differing viewpoints. Most here loved 2K6...but most here love the offline game as you noted.

As far as options go on either game...I just want an in game saves.

I love to play on the time setting that gives me stat realism but don't want to have to play for an hour or more each game. Time is precious and I would prefer to play for a half hour, then save for the next time.

I didn't hate 2k6...It had some great things abouty it and I'm sure 2k7 will too...My only knock thus far is the 2k strategy seems to be to port and not fully commit to rebuilding their games visually, gameplaywise and presentation for next gen consoles...They are staying with that tried, trusted and true formula and playing it SAFE

Well, hopefully Live incorporates a camera that is playable this year.

I rented it and played like 3 games offline and just could not get into it. Hopefully this year is a different story.

Presentation wise though, I guess I don't get what you're saying about NBA 2K. Presentation is sweet and it appers that this year they've ramped it up even more.

LIVE's camera was garbage...your right.

2K presentation is sweet...BUT..It was sweet on 2k5...it was sweet on 2k6 and now the same presentation on 2k7 will be sweet too..But its nothing new..its old and its time for sometghing fresh and new...something thats created for next gen...All 2K is doing is porting everything they did on the Xbox up to the 360.

I bought a next gen console to play next gen games not the same old Xbox games

Afro-

Regarding the pictures you posted....isn't the bottom Morrison from the xbox....not the 360?

That might be why it doesn't look next-gen.

Well, then his statement above the pic was correct...NOT NEXT GEN.

From the IGN Play of the Day for the original Xbox:

Hey, at least he's making fair comparisons. Yeah, this looks like crap:

that does look nice.

I think maybe the original poster intended to show the difference between Next Gen and Current Gen on purpose. That's how I interpreted the post anyway.

I just was thinking to myself that maybe he should have used the same game (either Live or 2K) for both pictures. You know, instead of using Live for Next Gen and 2K for current.

Maybe I'm wrong.

I have no idea what this even means. Should Winning Eleven scrap their gameplay engine because they're creating a version for the new-gen consoles?

There was a huge difference between the visual appearance and the animation quality of NBA2K6 on the Xbox and the 360. One screenshot doesn't mean much as a comparison.

"Fresh" is only "fresh" if it's finished, polished, and balanced. Otherwise, it's just half-ass.

Aren't those 3 terms you can seldom use for any 2K games? Their presentation always kicks ass, but I can't recall the last time I've played a 2K sports title an it has been polished. Hell, the last title I played I thought had those 3 items was The Show.

But what's the point of that? He said he plays LIVE because it's next-gen and 2k6 was not next-gen...and then used those pictures as his example. Which didn't make any sense because one was made for the 360 and one for the xbox. The graphics for the 360 version are clearly "next-gen" when compared to LIVE and IMO clearly surpass LIVE'S graphics.

I think The Show was better than NBA2K6, but The Show (on the PSP) was the best sports game I've seen in years. NBA2K6 on the 360 was very polished, I thought. And except for the training mini-games, I thought it was well balanced with the proper sliders.

I'd say it was something like this in terms of the three categories overall for team sports game:

10:
Winning Eleven (PC, or Pro Evolution Soccer)
The Show (this year on the PSP, anyway)

9:
NBA2K6 (360)
NCAA 2007 (360)

That's probably a little high for NCAA, but I've really enjoyed it this year with the right sliders.

8:
NHL2K6 (360)
College Hoops (360)

That's probably a little low for NHL2K6.

7:
Madden (360)

5:
NHL (any platform)
NBA Live (any)
FIFA (any)
March Madness (any)

1:
MLB2K6 (360)

I think that we could argue about the flaws of both EA's and 2K's approach. EA went with the "built from the ground up" approach, which meant that year 1 and 2 left gamers with less options than current gen games but a somewhat different gaming experience. Meanwhile, 2K basically used the same engine and next gen'ed the games. So while the games looked better, there was a bit of the "been there, done that" feeling. The big plus to NBA was that many of the little issues in the Xbox version were fixed for the 360 version.

Personally, I liked NBA a lot better than College Hoops. For some reason, Hoops has started to feel a little canned. In some games, I can feel how the game is going to end up - much the same way I have felt in some EA games (NHL in particular). You know the feeling - no matter what you do or how hard you work, this one is going to be an L. Plus, the weak sim engine made the game less realistic. One year of my dynasty, two #1 seeds lost in the first round. That is just absurd. Also, why can't someone add an "If" statement to the NCAA Tournament as in "If a team A is in the same conference as team B, then they should not meet in a first round game." Is that so difficult to program?? Must be, since I have seen in in every college BB game since MM '98 for the psx.

As for the hockey games, I tried real hard to like 2K's 06 version of hockey, but there were a lot of little issues that bothered me - from the horrid audio to the complicated control scheme. I am going to wait this year and see what people think of the hockey games before I make a decision. Of course, with my 360 slowly making its way to Texas for replacement, I don't have a hell of a lot of choice in the matter.

Wow - the graphics sure do look great....until everything goes in motion. The lighting is real nice and sharp but there's no flow between the animations, and the animations aren't all that great to begin with. The jumpshots look really awkward and they are just dribbling way too fast.

I will say that in past versions of Live everything looked and played much better once you toned down the gamespeed. Still the 2K7 videos put these to shame.

In the Live videos, I'm not quite sure how JT gets off that shot in the three point shootout...seeing as though he is shooting it when he is going down from his jump. That would be some hard sh*t to do.

That nails those vids on the head. The stiff, robotic animations look like they were snatched right out of Konami's long-aborted NBA 2Night. What is EA doing with the profits from this franchise? Does it still run at a BLISTERING 30 fps pace this year, also?

The thing is, though, that the gameplay itself is hard to ascertain from these short, low res vids. I certainly wouldn't bet on EA pulling off a miracle and making the best basketball game this season. However, I can't rule out Live totally on looks alone. Inside Drive was always ass-ugly even in its time, but brought arguably the best overall gameplay to the table in 2002 and 2003.

The 2k vids DO look sweet, though. Among the things already mentioned, if they fixed the dunking so you can't dunk your way to 30 points a game with the likes of dubious talents such as Darius Miles and Jalen Rose, I'll be pretty damned happy.

Just take a look at the animation of the ball in the gameplay video--in that early highlight of Nash making the 3-pointer, they show a replay and the ball moves HORIZONTALLY ACROSS THE FLOOR at one point (it would be about a foot in the real world) and then goes back up into Nash's hand.

That's so typical of EA team sports game. They made sure the moles and tattos are all in the right place and don't bother to animate the basketball properly. Good grief!
