Red Sox win the World Series, Pats are getting manhandled at Pittsburgh.

I was going to do the smartass "The Patriots have not won a game since the Sox won the series" joke with my friends.

I wouldn't mind being able to do it for a couple more weeks, that's for sure.

I have the Pats and the Steelers defenses in my fantasy league.

Of course, I played the Pats today...

This new curse will last as long as Dillon, Ty Law, and half our receivers are injured.

Yah, you've never heard someone say "our quarterback or our running back" when talking about their favorite teams. I guess it's more common in college sports discussions.

Actually, this curse will continue as long as Charlie Weis insists on using the five-receiver set as his base offense. The Patriots ran the ball only four times until midway through the third quarter yesterday.

Now, I know that switch was made becuase Dillon was hurt, but almost any defensive coordinator with solid player personnel can draw up a defense to stop a pass-only offense.

Sure, Dillon is a stud. But Kevin Faulk isn't a stiff. I was pretty surprised that Weis used pretty much a pass-only offense from the start of the game. The Steelers' defense ate it alive.

Out,

You never know what Weis will do. I don't think the 5 receiever set used so often had to do completely with Dillon being out, he did the same thing against Indy and it worked well. He rarely does what you expect him to do in games.

True, but it should be noted that the Steelers played without:

- Casey Hampton, NT (arguably the best in the NFL)
- Kendrell Bell, starting ILB (defensive Rookie of the Year in 2001)
- RG Kendall Simmons (out for year)
- Starting CB Chad Scott
- Nickelback Mike Logan
- QB Maddox (he *was* the starter at the beginning of the season)

You can't attack the Steelers with 5 WR anymore. They have added a lot of speed to the secondary since 2001 and 2002.

How could you even dare to mention Maddox... Roethlisberger has been an upgrade of epic proportions, people are bringing up "best rookie since Marino" comments about the guy. Bringing him up is worse than a Pat fan saying, "We extended the steak to 21 games this year, despite playing without last seasons starting RB"

Don't worry about that curse. Since the Pats are playing the Rams next week.....St. Louis to the rescue again!

I don't think New England's playcalling was the problem, I believe it was their vaunted defense.

Pitt: 49 carries for 221 yds, 4.5 avg
Pitt: 18-24 passing

Wow. Sorry, I'll take it back and just say...The Steelers kicked the ever living piss out of NE despite having a rookie QB and all those injuries (not counting the backup QB Maddox).

How often has a rookie QB lead his team to the Super Bowl and then went on to win it? Does anyone know? Brady was a rookie I believe, or at least in his first year starting...how many others have won the Super Bowl.

BTW, I know Marino went but couldn't finish so don't bother blasting us Dolphin fans.

I'm not surprised at his current success, I thought when the draft was happening Relishburger was the best QB if you want to win now.

True, true. Anyone who thinks the Patriots lost because of Dillon, Law and the receivers' absence is kidding themselves. The Steelers dominated the Pats yesterday in every aspect.

Wouldn't be surprised to see these two teams meet again in January in a cold, snowy Pittsburgh or Foxboro.

Take care,
PK

Well I always knew Parker/Resin/yada yada was a joke, just not to himself. ;) Leebo no need to get into a whos who on the IR lists. Just like every coach you played for growing up, they all say the same thing. Losers make excuses. I knew this would be the first thing out of his mouth.
