Guys who are bald/balding... head blade

Anyone here have any experience with this thing? It looks pretty bad ass. I am sadly starting to lose my hair at a rapid pace. My hair is thick all over, except I am getting a receding hairline in the front. There's really no "style" you can use to make it look good. I am not at a comb over phase yet, but I am losing it fast and I decided I may just shave it off. I have a big dome ( 7 1/2 in New Era fitted hats) so I think I will look like a complete freak. Very few white people can pull off a shaved head, while it looks 100% natural for a black person. I am a pale scandinavian with a big head, so I think I may scare small children with no hair. :) I am wondering what you guys who shave your head use, and your opinions. Pretty sad day for me to be completely honest, but it was a nice run...

I used one of those for a couple of years. The only problem was it took a special blade (naturally) and I eventually just went back to a Gillette razor when I really want it skin-close. Most of the time I just grab a clipper with no attachment and buzz it down as close as it will cut it nowadays.

The headblade was pretty easy to use--easier than the traditional razor, that's for sure. Especially on the weird angles you hit around the rear sides of your scalp where you can easily turn your razor or something. It was pretty easy to just roll it straight up from the back of my neck, or from the forehead all the the way back to the base of the skull. It's much FASTER than trying to shave with a traditional razor as well, but I had some of the nastiest scalp gashes in my life with it when I'd get too comfy and rush, and end up cutting a chunk of flesh off my head

With a razor I always had that "cautious" approach, I guess. With a little blade on what amounts to a matchbox car it was a little too easy to whip it around in a hurry.

Buzz cut FTW !!!

You'll regret shaving your head, it's maintenance just like shaving your face everyday. To break the shock i'd go to a good old fashion barber and ask for a Army style haircut. It'll break the shock and you'll still have hair.

Seriously i've been doing the buzz cut routine the last ten years. If I had hair i'd cut it off. :)

p.s. didn't you start a thread like this before?

That's what I meant by buzz cut.

Yeah...it just wasn't there when I posted mine 8)

And that's EXACTLY why I don't use it all the time. I've been shaving/buzzing my head for a good 4 or 5 years now and it got to be a lot to blade the whole scalp every 2 days or I ended up looking like a boot camp chia pet. Got to be pretty tiring.

Rod: I started a thread about balding I think, but I just now discovered this Head Blade product. There is really no way to make my hair look good. I have a big forehead as it is, and having a receding hairline makes me look like a clown. I look pretty solid in a hat, but without a hat on I just look like a mess. I wouldn't mind having a bald spot in the back, but having thinning hair in the front leaves you with no options. I've talked to women at the salon, and they basically all said there's nothing I can do to make it look good. I don't want to be one of those guys who is going bald but is in denial about it. There's simply not enough hair left for me to do anything with it. Having to shave my head routinely could get annoying, though.

I would do the buzz cut thing as it'll look like a GI cut. If you have the money you could do laser surgery.

My advice: Don't fight it. Accept it and embrace it. Bald is in style these days.

I don't blade mine, but I do buzz cut it once a week from a barber. I have too many crevices in the back of my head to do a good job myself. :) I get what's called a 'Five Zero' cut. That's about as tight as you can go without using a blade.

If you decide to shave it all off, I get good results with the Fusion blades. I'm like Murph though, just accept it and embrace. Shave it all off. I've been bald since 95.

I use this Wahl trimmer about once per week over my entire dome, with the shortest-length trim guide (1/16th of an inch). I had a nasty receding hairline and was thinning badly at the crown through the mid- to late-00s, so I had my barber shave everything to 1/16th of an inch in June 2009 and have cut it myself since then.

http://www.amazon.com/Wahl-79111-Classi ... 22&sr=1-63

The trimmer is made for ethnic cuts, but it works great on white dudes, too. :)

ZERO regrets. My head is even bigger than yours -- 7 3/4 in fitted hats -- and I don't think it looks odd. I've had a few people tell me I look like Mark Messier, which I take as a high compliment! Sure, shaving your head weekly or even daily can be tedious. But it's a lot easier and less stressful than trying to push around your disappearing hair to look halfway decent.

There's also no more hat head. No more bed head. Your dome is permanent press, ready to go anywhere at a moment's notice. And you'll save some serious dough if you're a peacock who spends a lot on hair care products, shampoo and styling gel.

Plus I still take my two boys to my old barber. Winner-winner, chicken dinner. :)

Been slick bald for 9 years. Wouldn't go back. For me, it's a helluva lot easier than fooling with hair. I don't shave every day, or even every couple of days, but I do often, and once you get accustomed to it, it really doesn't add that much time to the process. Oh, and I'm a 7 5/8 in hats, so I get the large melon...

I'm not balding or thinning...but I've been cutting my own hair since 95...either a zero or a one on the old trimmer. Best 80 bucks I ever spent. No haircuts, nor hair product besides shampoo and no mess/fuss/nothing. It's the only way to go as a man.

And damn, I didn't know there were so many bald dudes here.

I have been going bald for some time now. Big bald spot on top and receding in the front. I think it is getting to the point where the hair I have left is starting to look weird. I have asked my wife to tell me when it gets to that point. I hope she will be blunt and honest. I think she will.

I have considered cutting it all off for a while now but just cannot pull the trigger. I believe I would appreciate once I do do it. How did you guys make the decision and follow through?

We are leaving for vacation soon and I am thinking that may be the perfect opportunity. It will give me time to get used to it while we are away.

I always asked my barber every time I got my hair cut. As I sat in the chair every time, I asked, "Is it time?" The barber is brutally honest. The last time I sat in the chair, I said, "Is it time?" My barber said, "Yes, it's time." I replied: "Let's do it, then. Get the shears and take it all off."

That was it. My wife hated it at first, but it's my head, not hers. I don't tell her what to wear or how to do her hair, and I expect the same courtesy in return. We're adults, after all. Now she loves my chrome dome! :)

It's not that big of a decision. You're overthinking it. Just do it. If you don't like it, remaining hair will grow back. But I think you will like it.

Another idea: Shave your head for charity. My 10-year-old son is getting his head shaved for the second consecutive year to benefit kids with cancer through the St. Baldrick's Foundation. See if there's a St. Baldrick's event near you in the next two weeks and sign up today. Raise some bucks to help sick kids and get your head shaved to help them. You'll probably also like your new look.

When I saw Andre Agassi do it (no Nike pun) and when I realized that bald or scalped head became cool/fashionable.

The easiest way to pull the trigger is go to the barber shop and ask for a low crop cut. Once the shock passes go back and get it cut shorter and shorter until you feel comfortable with a buzz cut. :)

I've shave my head for about 4 years now. The writing was on the wall so I grew it out one last time and when it was time I donated my hair to locks for love and then had the barber shave it. She said "Are you sure? It will be a dramatic change from long hair to no hair." She insisted I let her cut it very short first and I humored her even though I had my mind made up. She cut it and I said shave it.

I use a blade and shave it once a week. It takes me all of 5 minutes. I can handle 5 minutes a week for hair maintenance. It takes a little while getting used to shaving your own head but once you do it's easy. I've used the Head Blade and I went right back to my Mach 5. The problem with the Head Blade for me was that it is more designed for every day use or every other day use rather than letting your hair grow in even just a little. The blades just couldn't handle a week's worth of growth and I didn't feel like shaving my head every other day.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

My 11 year old(6th grade) is doing the St. Baldricks thing this Friday at school again. It's become an annual event for him since 4th grade. Not a lot of kids in his class will actually do it either. Not sure I would have done it had the option been available for me back then either.
As for me, I've been shaving my head for several years, and now I just do it at home myself. Matter of fact I can't stand when it starts to grow out even a little bit, I feel uncomfortable. Plus a good head shave always puts me in a great mood.

I've thought about going down to a buzz cut, but darn it, I have a longer shaped head. Plus, the fact my wife told me if I did it, I'd look sickly. How about that for a vote of confidence? Truthfully, I'd probably also need to tan to look presentable as I have a palish complexion. It seems like a no win situation for me.

I'm still envious of those with great hair, but as I've gotten older, I'm even more envious of those with nice round heads!

I thought I recall there being a website or some program which could show you what you would look like with a shaved head. All you needed to do was upload a pic onto the site. That might give those of us who are anxious a little preview of things to come anyway!

Well, I did it... I had my gf shave my head completely, since she's a hair stylist. I am not so sure how I feel about it, but you really do feel "free" with no hair. My 2 year old is scared of me, just like I'd assumed. She hates change. I always have to wear my glasses, or she notices immediately and says "put on your sunglasses" lol. So, this will be an adjustment for all of us. I really need to get a bit of a tan, since a huge shaved white head is not that attractive in my case. My friend came by and said it looked like I was ready for a klan rally, then gave me a friendly nudge to the gut.

I am honestly kind of depressed about it, but like PK said in his post, it comes to the point of no return. Holding onto scraps of hair is kind of embarrassing, so I had to let it go. Hopefully I will learn to adapt to this look, but it is what it is.

I'm not trying to be the DSP Mystic, but your hair style does not define you. Remember that.

You, your family and your friends will forget what you looked like with hair by Memorial Day. Seriously. Everybody can laugh about it by then.

Congrats on joining the Chromedome Legion of Doom. :)
