You cannot create players in Franchise/Season mode. You cannot carry more than 10 pitchers...if you try to, the game will use them as bench players, not as pitchers. So you can only pinch hit with them...you can't warm them up or anything...they treat them like normal players.

That is the dumbest thing I've ever seen and I will not play it. It's too bad too because I like the gameplay a s***load more than MVP. God I hope ASB is decent this year.

(this is all assuming I'm not missing something in the lineup configurations when trying to start a season/franchise)
I haven't checked this, but believe it or not, I'm ok with it for the simple fact that I HATE that teams today carry 12 and 13 friggin pitchers. Hate, hate hate it. I love the days of baseball when you routinely had 10 man staffs. So while not 21st century realistic, I'm cool w/ it. I'd rather have that than MVP's 15 pitchers and 10 hitters.

Not being able to use created players in Season/Franchise mode is a much bigger deal to me. I like to create old time players and place them on their team. Cobb in Det, Ruth in NY, Frank Robinson in Cincy, maybe slap a Clemente in Pitt or a Smokey Joe Wood in Boston. If I can't do that, that kinda stinks. Not enough to stop playing, but I do that with every baseball game I take a real liking to.

Sounds good so far....I'm gonna go pick up a copy and support 989 after the day session games are over. Get games in between 4 and 7:15 tomorrow before the night session starts.

Loving a relaxing spring break at home.

Yup, I'm happy I stuck with the PS2 during it's down times. I love the easiness of updating rosters and the fact that it has some sleeper games (MLB, WE (for some that don't know it, WoO, World Tour Soccer, etc.)

dbdynsty25 wrote:I am so pissed right now PK, you have no idea. I love the gameplay...but f***...why can't anyone get rosters right. If you can't carry 11 or 12 pitchers on your 25 man roster, like real life....that sucks ass.

It's inexcuseable...especially since the Braves will be starting a guy at 1b that's no in the game...I've gotta create him. Another reliever will make the team and he's nowhere to be seen either.

It's not about manning up and admiting it's not for me...it's about 989 f***in' something else up. They obviously spent too much time on graphics and animations (cuz damn they are pretty) and not enough on the fundamentals of baseball...ROSTERS.
Well db, at least they will have roster updates.

Someone mentioned not being able see pitcher stamina. If you press select while on the mound you get pitcher stats (stamina, pitch count) and batter stats.

db,

Sorry it didn't work out for ya. I hope you find a baseball game that does this year.

Atleast you've been nothing but up front about that with us.

For me it's not that big of a deal but then again many people think MVP doesn't have any real problems so I guess it's all what you can take before a game gets on your nerves. Either way, thanks for your honest impressions.

Thanks Jrod...i'm just so disappointed right now. I had such high hope...and it's delivered on everything but the roster management. I cannot believe they won't allow you to use created players, that's just ridiuclous in this day and age.

I know ASB allows you to do all this stuff (or at least it did last year) so I've got hope left.

Dammit, I love how MLB plays too...terribly, terribly disappointing.

webdanzer wrote:I'm having some issues.

First and foremost, Difficulty.

I sat down and played my first two games after work, pumping it immediately to all-star level, since I could tell from my earlier three inning stint that I had the feel of the game.

I won my first two games ever played, at the highest level, 4-3 and then 4-0. This concerns me.
I have only been playing on the middle difficulty level, but my concern is also with difficulty. I have been playing some random games with mainly #3 starters and I really haven't been giving up any runs. Maybe 1 or 2 a game. It is more common than not that I make it through the order once perfect and most of the hits I surrender are singles. I don't think I walked more than a couple batters all night. At least in MVP I had to unintentionally/intentionally walk some hitters. I just don't get the "fear factor" with MLB. It worries me because usually I am a gamer that plays on the middle or upper middle difficulty level. I am still playing on Pro with MVP.

While you're at it, ask em why the f*** you can't carry more than 10 pitchers and why you can't play seasons/franchise with created players.

That has to be the gayest thing I've ever seen.

OK just played the Dodgers. They attempted 3 steals on the game, and Dave Roberts even attempted to steal 3rd.

It still sounds like MLB is the game for you, db. The 10 pitcher think sucks but I bet you go back to MLB as your best bet because of your liking of the gameplay.

I have no idea what I'm doing. Maybe doing what J Cauthen is doing.

I'm on spring break until Sunday and haven't played a baseball title this year. Liked High Heat the best last year, had MVP for a while, too. Only 2 I played besides Inside Pitch at a demo for a good while.

Used to like MLB on PSX, in 99....

Suggestions?

I still like the game better than MVP. Regarless of the roster issues. It's just more fun to play. It is eerily similar to those old school MLB's back on the PS1. I just worked around the roster issue, even though I wish I could have two more relievers and two less bench players.

The fact that I can't play with the two young studs that are coming up for the Braves this year is disturbing though. Dammit...am I ever gonna find a game that does what I want?

FG, just rent MLB 2005. It's not for everyone obviously, but I'm digging the hell out of the gameplay.

db,
A small victory perhaps but you can in fact use created players during a season, just not for franchise. The 10 pitchers thing sucks but the gameplay is there man and that's where it really counts right?

How did you figure out how to use created players in "Season" mode? I tried it and it always went back to default.

BTW, I could really care less about all the Franchise fluff that's in MLB (It's HUGE by the way), so if I can use the created guys in Season, I'll be cool with that. I'll just have to futz with my lineups all the time rotating players based on 'stamina' and the like.

db,
I created a player and saved him in the free agent pool. I started a franchise mode and it told me that all the rosters would be reset and I would lose all my created players. I then exited out and reloaded my saved roster with my CP in the free agents. I started a season, picked my team and never got the reset rosters message. When I started the season I went to roster management and checked the free agents and sure enough he was there. I sure hope this can save the game for you since we were of the small minority that saw the goodness in this game last year.

I noticed that I didn't get the warning message either when I did a Season but I didn't see my players on my team. I might just have to leave them in the Free Agent pool...that might be the difference. Starting w/ them in the Pool might make them available.

I'll have to look into that. That would be dope because I love playing the game...just not a huge fan of the roster management. Obviously.

Thanks for the tip Scoop...much appreciated.

DB, I hate to hear about your issues with the create player and roster management issues. Knowing your predilection for for those elements, I can see where it would be eating at you. And you're right, it seems like such a fundamental thing for them to incorporate.

I've never done a lot of roster managing, and I've never created a player in a baseball game. I just play with what I'm dealt and do a season, at the most. The dynasty stuff is lost on me in baseball, so I doubt I'll have any heartburn over this. That said, I'm not excusing it!

My biggest worry is the lack of a check swing. That's one of the few strengths I carry in an action baseball game - knowing when to pull the plug on a swing. That's been taken away from me now :-(

I'm going to give this game a rent at the very least. I already know the console version of MVP ain't going to float my boat. I've never gotten into All Star Baseball either, but who knows... it could break through this year.

I'm a bit jaundiced against ESPN Baseball, having played that dreadful demo of it on the latest Xbox magazing demo disk. However, I was equally non-plussed by the College Hoops demo, and it turned out to be a pretty decent game.

The last "X-factor" for my may be the PC version of MVP, but I'll wait on a demo before I make that decision.

Please keep us posted on further discoveries you make about the gameplay. I'm finding some of these war stories veddy interestink so far!

db I hope it works too. I just got home from work and was getting pumped reading impressions until I saw the CP issue. This is a huge issue for me also. I gotta throw some love to Scoop ,he very well could have saved this game for me.let us know brother.
