Are you Tim Lovejoy in disguise? Or is it just an English thing?GB_Simo wrote:Kaiser Chiefs - Employment
Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
Head Automatica - Decadence
Interpol - Antics
Morrissey - You Are The Quarry
Queen - The Platinum Collection
Green Day - American Idiot, still...started listening to Kerplunk again too.
Will shortly be adding the debut album by obscure, very peculiar Brit band Do Me Bad Things to that list. Eagerly awaiting the new Oasis album, although I'm certain I already know what it'll sound like. In truth, I guess that's why I'm eagerly awaiting it...also going back and listening to old Britpop, being an indie kid at heart - Suede, Supergrass and all that.
Dave, given that I only know one Half Man Half Biscuit song (Bob Wilson Anchorman), is their back catalogue worth me exploring?
Cheers,
Adam

-First Canadian band I have ever really liked. I know, sad.
Queens of the Stone Age, Lullabies to Paralyze
-They just f'n rock!
Jay-Z, The Blueprint

Miles Davis, b*tches Brew
-It takes a while to "get it", but I've been known to be slow.

If song titles like
The Referee's A-Z
("The N is for the numbskull who during the Boxing Day game asks me what else I got for Xmas besides my whistle. 'An afternoon with your wife, mate'")
Gubba Look-alikes
Len Ganley Stance
Trumpton Riots
Dickie Davies Eyes
San Antonio Foam Party
He Who Would Valium Take
don't whet your appetite, then nothing will.
PM me, and I'll sort you out. How can you not love a band who refused to appear on the Tube because it clashed with a Tranmere Rovers home game ?

Metal
Angra - Temple of Shadows
Tad Morose - Modus Vivendi
Into Eternity - Buried In Oblivion
Non-Metal
Tim McGraw - personal mix of songs
Duran Duran - Astronaut
Dan Reed Network - mix of everything
Having a 20gig MP3 player has been wonderful. Instead of sitting in front of a giant cabinet full of CDs wondering what to bring in the car or to work, I can always just run genres (or the whole player) on random and see what comes up

Just picked up the CD a couple weeks ago and have been listening to it a lot. It is the perfect mix of Prog\power\Death Metal.matthewk wrote:WOW! Someone else here that not only knows who Into Eternity is, but listens to them!injunwal wrote:Dark Tranquility - Character

I read about them on Century Media's website. Checked out some tracks at Amazon and was hooked. Great stuff - Dream Theater, Opeth, and Nevermore all rolled into one

Cursive - The Ugly Organ
K-os - Joyful Rebellion

Nick Drake - discography
The Decemberists - Picaresque
The Shins - Oh Inverted World!, Chutes Too Narrow

These are about the only threads that pull me out of lurker status...
Bright Eyes - Lifted, Wide Awake, and Digital Ash are all wonderful.
Josh Rouse - Nashville. His newest is as good as his other stuff. If there was a music god, Rouse would be huge. Great singer/songwriter.
The Soundtrack Of Our Lives - Origin. Good stuff. Pop music. In the Beatles sense. Love it.
Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion - Exploration. Woody's graddaughter (Arlo's daughter) and her husband make good folk/rock that brings Graham Parsons back to life with wonderful harmonies and good songwriting.

Man, I love these threads. I bought a Dream Theater album ("Images and Words") after reading some very positive impressions. I really like it. I was intending to buy the new Kings of Leon CD but about every other review at Amazon was knocking the copy protection so I skipped it. I did "find" it elsewhere and it is pretty good. I just got a couple Interpol CDs from the library that I'm eager to check out.ScoopBrady wrote:Sounds like something I should check out then as I like all 3 of those bands.injunwal wrote:Just picked up the CD a couple weeks ago and have been listening to it a lot. Seeing as post-punk is now being recycled (Interpol, Killers etc), I just dig out the originals
Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures
Wire - Pink Flag
Public Image Ltd - Metal Box
Ultravox - Three Into One
all still good.

Oh yeah, they're still around. They have about 8 studio albums total now. If you're looking for more DT, here's the general consensus of their work (From best to worst):Leebo33 wrote:It's very good. What should I buy/"find" next? Are they still around?matthewk wrote:Leebo, Images & Words is my favorite album EVER!!!![]()
\m/ \m/
1. I&W
2. Scenes From a Memory (concept album, but very coolthe way it's presented and the story is strong)
3. Train of Thought (newest work)
4. Awake
5. Seasons (5 songs, 1 of which is 26 minutes long, the rest are covers)
6. 6 degrees of Inner Turbulence (2 discs, all new studio material)
7. Falling Into Infinity
8. When Day & Dream Unite (1st album, different singer)
Not sure what your tastes really are. Are you into a lot of metal, or just selectivly? For non-metal I cannot reccommend Del Amitri enough.

Badger,
I am the same way. Lurker who has to jump in sometimes..lol. Nice to see Joy Division , Psychedlic Furs, The Jam and Dream Theater all mentioned here. As far as U2 goes, I read a review of their first concert in San Diego and it said that after their first song they played four songs from their first album Boy. I can only hope that they do the same thing here in Phoenix. Just thinking about that brings chills. Back to the topic, I picked up Ramones DVD End of The Century and have been playing most of the time when at home. Another great DVD is Dream Theater's DVD . I have been in a retro mood lately so have Rockpile,Talking Heads,Joe Jackson, Pretenders playing also. Hmm...think it is time to bring out my favorite album of all time right now...from the only band that matters...London Calling by The Clash
BTW..great thread...have downloaded and bought CD's from artist I have never heard of before in previous threads like this on this forum. Have not regretted it one bit. Thanks all for the suggestions.

I never thought they'd play An Cat Dubh and Into the Heart live! I hope Electric Co and Zoo Station make it to Philadelphia. I've heard enough of Bullet the Blue Sky and wouldn't mind seeing them replace it with Please or another old song, but other than that the set list looked great.azmark wrote:As far as U2 goes, I read a review of their first concert in San Diego and it said that after their first song they played four songs from their first album Boy.
