dropped charges, LOL

he pleaded to a lesser count, got a fine from the NFL

get your facts straight

Four days after being cleared of murder charges, an "exhausted and angry" Ray Lewis called to bring "closure" to his highly-publicized trial. The three-time Pro Bowl linebacker of the Baltimore Ravens pleaded guilty on Monday to a misdemeanor charge of obstruction of justice after murder and assault charges were dropped in exchange for his testimony in the on-going trial against acquaintances Reginald Oakley and Joseph Sweeting.

Yep, no more Artest for the season, and no one who can guard Pierce on the Pacers. Too bad we already played one game against them.

Didn't McSorley get suspended from the NHL for a year after attacking a player? Artest and his crew only get 30 and 20 games? Way to send a message to the fans Stern.

It's true, wow... penalties were worse than the wire reports initially. So much for Stern not having any balls...

Also, there is no need to penalize the Pistons organization now because there is nothing that can be done to make the Pistons want that day to be done again. A drunken mob basically came into the Palace and rid the Pistons of their biggest rivals (and a team that just kicked the dogshit out of them). Privately, the Pistons have to be raising a glass to the drunken mob...

Stern is the captain of a sinking ship.
He is as responsible as anyone else for this trash.

stern saved the nba, but in the process handed the pistons the eastern conference

win/win...depending who you are 8O

its simple, in the minds of many americans, the nba is full of "thugs". so stern gets rid of the thugs, in a sense. he saved face

Props to Stern -- surprised at the show of balls.

Artest got exactly what was coming to him. Now he has plenty of time to promote that rap album, another one of his goals. Frankly, I think the only thing Artest will miss during his suspension is his paycheck.

Still, there's no penalty for the Pistons' organization for this? It deserves a fine or one game without fans in attendance due to its obviously lax security personnel.

Wonder how the NBA apologists on ESPN will spin this now? Saunders, Anthony, Legler, Smith and Co. must be appalled at the suspensions. After all, they were the idiots who exonerated the players of any guilt Friday night.

F*ck the Pacers and their chances to win the Eastern Conference. They got what they deserved for the behavior at least a third of the team displayed Friday night.

Take care,

I think an appropriate penalty for the Pistons would that they start every game with -10 points untill Jackson and O'Neal return, and maybe -5 points until Artest returns (or the end of the season).

I think Stern will hear from the player's union on this one, simply because he's pulling numbers out of his ass. I give him credit, he got the fact that Stephen Jackson was the stupidest guy on the floor, but then he goes and gives Artest more than twice as much punishment as Jackson. Artest at least was provoked... Jackson ran into the crowd to play punch a fan. I realize that he is giving a bit more to Artest for his past antics, but he went overboard. When you also consider previous punishments doled out by the NBA it just doesn't add up. Rodman kicks a camera man and gets 10 games, Kermit Washington gets 26 games... Artest gets what 70 games? Is somebody in the hospital leaking spinal fluid like Rudy T. that I don't know about? Just because this is a bigger black eye for the league doesn't mean Stern can go apeshit. I fully expect the players union to whittle this down a bit, like they did with Sprewell.

You keep saying this, like you are some badass... do you know how much force a 16 oz cup filled with fluid would cause from rows up? I'll help you out a bit, F = MA and g = 9.8 m/s^2...

On the street, if I through a cup of beer in at you it would be assault. Period. If a cop saw it you would be cuffed and off. Just because you dismiss it like it's nothing doesn't mean it is. I would love to demonstrate this to you in person so you can see how it feels... but seeing as how it's Sunday afternoon I'm sure you have been doused with enough beer today.

I'm tired of people dismissing this because it was only a "cup of beer". It is *never* all right to throw anything at another person. It's called assault, people.

Kaz

Provoked? No he got hit with a cup of ice while making an ass out of himself. He's a pro. He should have NEVER went into the stands.

Why did he foul Ben so hard with the game well in hand? He wanted to stir up some $hit and he did. Funny that he didn't go after Wallace like he did the poor white guy in the stands. I hope that guy gets paid. He should put a vanity plate on his new Escalade that say's "Artetboughthis".

I'll tell you who was provoked and handled it like a man and the pro that he was. Jackie Robinson. Todays spoiled athletes should take a page out of Jackie's book on how to handle dumbass fans.

Artest got what he deserved. Jackson and O'Neal should have gotten worse.

On a side note who is that hottie in your avatar? She drives me nuts.

Why should the Pistons be punished until Pacer players return?
Because Scoop, the Pistons as an organization are getting off scott free when they are just as much if not more to blame than the Pistons. Ben Wallace, a PISTON, acted like a f*g, getting mad at a hard foul (not flagrant) because his team was getting it's ass kicked. He then refuses to let things go and acts like an idiot, getting the crowd fired up. The PISTONS security allows the crowd to start acting like idiots, and a drunk ass PISTONS fan throws a cup at Artest. The Pacers players acted like idiots as well, but the Pacers organization is the only one being punished.

When I did something bad as a kid, my mom did not hand me a fudgecicle. Punishment is supposed to deter you from doing something you did that was bad. If before the game, somebody comes up to the Pistons and says, "Hey, we're going to have some drunk ass fans come in and start s*** with the Pacers. When the smoke clears, we will get arguably the Pacers three best players suspended for a total of more than 100 games, and all you have to do is lose Big Ben for 6 and pay a fine. What do you say?" You don't think they would jump at that? What the f*** kind of punishment is that?

Jack, you're right about the Jackie Robinson thing... it certainly does put in perspective. But the bottom line is that he was provoked, whether you like the definition or not. You can't go around throwing s*** at people. You're right, he's a pro and he shouldn't have gone into the stands. He should have pointed it out to security and let them handle it. But he was still provoked... he did not go into the stands untill *after* he was hit.

The girl in the avatar's name is Aria Giovanni... I like her a lot too.
