I wouldnt either but we arent playing in the NBA.

A plastic cup just doesnt reach the level of punch in the face. I cant figure out how he knew which guy threw it or how the other Pacer (??????)figured he had to go punch that other guy.

What was with Oneil and his flying punch at the little fat dude?

Any update on the mystery chair?

I hate to say this but this is the most interested Ive been in watching NBA action since Jordan left the Bulls.

I lost all respect for John Saunders, he should just stick with doing NHL.

The other players who weren't attacked first were out of bounds though, IMO.
Without provocation? Technically, Artest was off the court of play and in the no man's land between the crowd and court by laying on the table.

I'm not condoning fans tossing objects at a player. Not one bit. But to go ballistic over a plastic cup? Totally unprofessional, totally undisciplined.

In other words, typical Artest and increasingly typical of the NBA.

Holy sh*t, these ESPN analysts are unbelievable. Legler is saying Artest was 100 percent justified for his actions. I can't believe what I'm hearing. The Pistons' fans were out of control, and the club should be fined big-time for lack of security and control.

But total justification for a player who has a long history of discipline problems going into the stands to attack a fan because he was hit with a plastic cup of beer? Come on.

Take care,
PK

The way they are doing it all together it makes me think that this has come down from the top of ESPN.

What are you talking about? Is there some colored zone that you can wander into where you are fair game to get stuff tossed at you? OK, since it wasn't unprovoked, what was the reason that the fan had for throwing stuff? I figured Artest's antics of laying on the score table would be punishable by the NBA, not by the fans.

I would think that a grown man would think that he couldn't throw something at another grown man without there being some kind of consequence. If security had done it's job and protected Artest, then there wouldn't have been an issue. What reason did Artest have to believe that the next object wouldn't be a phone? Was he going to wait for security to stop that too?

Cup throwing has happened a million times before.
This hasnt....at least not to this extent.
Artest involved...coincidence?

Jim Gray, who was standing right down there, says he hit the wrong guy.
Just pick a fan Ron ...any fan.
Gray sounds all shook up. he still shaking.

So I guess if someone threw a cup of beer in your face, you would just smile it off. Fair enough, you're a better man than I. I wasn't raised that way.
Artest is a loon, no doubt. But he didn't start this, the fan did.

Yeah right?!?!?!
If you had read everything I wrote Ud know That I would have gone and kicked some ass....but I like Artest (not as severe) have a few quick trigger moments.
I am definately not a better man than anyone .............except maybe political whores and NBA/NFL refs.

PLUS: HE HIT THE WRONG GUY...

In a perfect world they would simply let Artest and the fan go out to the parking lot and fight to the death.

Then shoot the winner. ;)

Shoot the loser too. We probably shouldn't be commenting untill we know the full story, and that goes for the media. I *will* say that if Artest did attack the wrong fan or attacked *anyone* unprovoked then he should banned from the NBA forever.

They are showing Gray again on ESPN NEWS.
Gray was standing next to Artest when he was lying on the bench.
He says it was the wrong guy.
I doubt hes lying.

Also says the guy that throught the cup was hitting Artest in the back of the head when they were breaking it up.

This is more NBA than Ive watched in years.
Maybe they need fighting?

Enters Oliver Stone:

Maybe the fan was trying to pelt Jim Grey and missed? I know he would be my first choice. Someone needs to check the air current from the stadium ventalation systems.

Movie above was pretty blury and I still have no clue what happened.

Here is another one of those clever Piston fans who will be getting contacted by the Detroit police this weekend.

This was AFTER the incident.

The Pistons CEO seems like the only one who made sense.

ESPN is still reporting like the fans are Fallujah militants.

All I'm saying is that I can't hold Artest to a standard I don't hold. If somebody tossed some s*** at me without provocation there would be hell to pay. I'm not good at turning the other cheek.

I was at a UGA vs Auburn game several years ago when they beat us at home. We were sitting very close to the Auburn section. Towards the end of the game several Auburn fans sprayed their cups down from above at the UGA fans. Many with ice in them. A cup hit my friend, cut his cheek, and then hit the little kid below us. We saw exactly who did it. My friend rushed up the steps and started after the guy. I am not even sure if he got a shot in before security escorted my friend out where he was then turned over to police. Of course nothing happened to the guy who threw the cup.

This is what happens to people in the real world. Average Joe's are expected to pay the consequences of their actions, regardless of whether they seem "justified'. Not so in the world of the professional athlete. The fact the fans and the media hardly ever holds these athletes accountable for their actions is ridiculous. We as fans are who are to blame the most for accepting this behavior as normal. In no other industry would guys be able to behave like this and actually still have careers.

PS - Yes, this is one of the many reasons I hate Auburn so much. I am still feeling the sting of the ass whooping they put on UGA last weekend.
