Are the Steelers the best team in the NFL?

Who knows? I'm just hoping for Saban. I actually don't think Spurrier would be a bad fit in Miami. People always give the guy who failed in his first stint in the NFL crap...especially college coaches. But there's this other guy...I believe he's in New England now that fell on his face the first year in the NFL w/ Cleveland as a highly regarded college coach. Now he's widely regarded as the best coach in the game. So there is hope for Steve yet.Brando70 wrote:Wanny is the Rich Kotite of the last decade. Having said that...I think Saban would be a better fit. If Huzienga decides to spend the money, he'll get Nick out of the SEC...I hope.

They haven't been selling out this year...for obvious reasons (Hurricanes and a sh*tty team). But Wayne has never had a problem putting money into the Dolphins. The stadium is built for football and that's why the Marlins need one for themselves. Apparently Wayne loses money on the Marlines but makes money on the Dolphins, which is basically why he doesn't mind putting money into the latter.
I don't think you'll see Spurrier money but somewhere in the vicinity is certainly expected.

Well, something is definitely screwed up in Miami since Shula left. They hire Jimmy Johnson who in turn coaches for a few years, demands that they hire Wanny as an assistant coach, resigns and Wanny takes over. Dan Marino takes a job with the Dolphins for all of 1 week and now Ricky Williams retires out of nowhere. That's pretty f'n weird if you ask me.
As far as the Steelers are concerned, they are definitely one of the elite teams in the league as of the moment but the Patriots are the defending champs. It should make for some exciting playoff action in the AFC this year though with the Steelers, Patriots, and Colts.

Any team that relies on their offense has no chance against Belichick. We definitely can score more points than last year. If we can avoid more injury problems in our defense, I'm confident we will win the superbowl again. Though Pittsburgh scares me more than Philly, I'm sure our coaches will have a better plan of attack if we face them again. Philly doesn't worry me at all, we have owned them the last few years.
Its tough coming to the realization that your team is total crap...
Though I would still have to say at this point in the season The Steelers are #1....back to back wins vs the Pats and eagles speak for themselves..
I would have to agree with you 100% that Pats will wind up winning it all.
I would never bet against Belichick.

They have played only one time in the regular/post season in the past few years. One win and the Pats own them? Unless you are counting preseason games which is laughable.Parker wrote:Philly doesn't worry me at all, we have owned them the last few years.
Besides, McNabb is a much different QB than he was when the Patriots played him in Game 2 last year. The start of last year was the low point of his career.
I think the Patriots should be concerned with both the Steelers and the Eagles right now. I don't see any other team that can really challenge the Pats in the playoffs, right now. Maybe someone else will get hot in the second half of the season.
New England certainly looks difficult, but anyone who makes blanket predictions in today's NFL is a fool. We're in a league where any team can literally beat anyone. The Pats are super tough, and if push comes to shove, I'd still favor them over the Steelers. But if the two are tied at the end of the year, I've gotta give the Steelers the nod at Ketchup Field. Belichick is an outstanding coach, but Cowher is also one of the most consistent guys around. And it's not like the Pats are blowing teams out.Parker wrote:Ummmm ya. As for Philly, this is not the same Eagles team of the last few years. They got beat badly yesterday, but they are very tough. They will bounce back from an off day.

It looked like the Colts would challenge the Pats earlier in the season. They had been so close that it was a matter of time.
But their defense seems to have regressed and it puts too much pressure on Manning to put up 40+ points to win games.
In the NFC, nobody looks that strong. Seattle looked good but their defense isn't shutting teams out any more. Atlanta could surprise (what a 1-year turnaround) but I think their defense is working on gimmicks as KC's 8 rushing TDs suggested).
Eagles are vulnerable in the LB and CB units. They were vulernable to the run last year and that doesn't seem to have really changed much, despite their record.
It's true about parity though. Carolina and Dallas had their one year ascent and now are both having tough years. But once recovered from injuries and strengthened by high draft picks, they could be at the top again.
You see a vast improvement from San Diego but already, it looks like they may not keep Brees, who's having a terrific year. Yes, the salary cap and parity are clearly in evidence.

In the end, the team that can shut down their oppositions running game and have a running game of their own will most likely prevail. Right now the Patriots have got to tighten up their run defense as do the Colts. The Steelers have done a good job with both so far this season and the kid is controlling the offense and staying away from the turnover. You'd be amazed at the statistics this year involving the winning percentages of teams with 300 + yard passers or 100 + yard receivers compared to those with 100 + yard rushers.

Are you joking? You did see that Lito Sheppard was NFC defensive player of the month right? Their LB's are fine. Dahani Jones is an upgrade from Carlos Emmons and they have Trotter as a backup...a backup at MLB. Arguably the best FS in the NFL in Brian Dawkins and one of the best SS in the game - Michael Lewis. Their weakness in stopping the run lies in the "D" line. The Eagles "D" line relies on speed because they lack size (Kearse, Burgess, McDougal). The LB's and 2ndary are the least of my worries. I'm betting 98% of the league wishes they had the Eagles "problems". Bottom line, no team is safe in the NFL. You can be beaten on any given Sunday. You are kidding yourself if you think any different.Eagles are vulnerable in the LB and CB units. BTW, my vote for best team in the 1st half goes to Pittsburgh. Keep in mind its only one half. I still thinks the Pats will come out of the AFC.

Ok, here's the lines from this week. The whole season has been pretty much following suit.dbdynsty25 wrote:You F*ckin' tease...if we're going to be so amazed, why don't you share those statistics with us?ScoopBrady wrote:You'd be amazed at the statistics this year involving the winning percentages of teams with 300 + yard passers or 100 + yard receivers compared to those with 100 + yard rushers.
100 + yards receivers
2 Wins 5 Losses
Win:Pats, Seahawks
Loss:Jets, Lions, Dolphins,Chiefs(2), Rams
300 + yards passers
0-1
Win: none
Loss: Chiefs
100 + yards rushers
8-0
Win: Bills, Redskins, Steelers, Bucs, Bears, Seahawks, Broncos, Patriots
Last week 2 quarterbacks passed for almost 500 yards (Broncos, Colts) and both lost.

Win:Chiefs
Loss: Colts, Broncos
100 + yards rushers
8-0
Win: Bills, Titans, Giants, Chiefs, Seahawks, Falcons, Steelers, Jets(2)
Loss: none
So combined, the last 2 weeks are as follows:
WR's - 4-9
QB's - 1-3
RB's - 16-0
100 + yards receivers
2-4
Win: Eagles, Chiefs
Loss: Jags, Colts(2),Panthers(2), Patriots

All I know is they're giving up a generous 4.7 yards per rush, before the Pittsburgh game. That was the question against their D last year, before they lost Taylor and Vincent.Diablo25 wrote:Are you joking? You did see that Lito Sheppard was NFC defensive player of the month right? If you want to put that on the DL rather than the LBs, that's fine. What about Simon, isn't he a stud in the middle?
Notice I said CBs not DBs. But if they continue to give up a lot of rushing yards, teams will try to attack the Eagles on the ground, rather than pass against those blitzes.
