I think baseball is a joke because of their unbalance salary structure and certainly the Yankees are the worst example and benefactors from this system. I haven't watched baseball as a diehard fan for years since the financial realities really started making the sport pre-determined in my mind. But I still find it funny that you bring up the Red Sox as if they are what's right with baseball. It's like looking at a monolopy system and somehow saying that Pepsi is much better than Coke. To each his own I supposeThe Yanks are up against it now. Either they keep their mediocre pitching next season or they become even more of a joke to baseball by raising their payroll to a ridiculous level in order to sign good pitchers. Boston is not going to raise their payroll anymore, we already spent more than a team should have to win the world series and beat Steinbrenner's huge bank account. So this could be our last chance if Steinbrenner gets crazy with his money and finally figures out how to build a playoff team and baseball doesn't stop him.

Exactly...and people are surprised when I say I'm having a better time watching that series.sportdan30 wrote:Check out these stats that Houston and St. Louis share heading into the final game. These are stats for just this series only.
Houston's BA: .246
St. Louis BA: .246
Houston's ERA: 4.80
St. Louis: 4.80
Talk about dead even.

I agree with your first statement. We were a much better team in '96-'00 when we had less "superstars" and more role type players who would kill for a win. We don't have those players any longer, with few exceptions.Parker wrote:You're right, ironically, he was better at building teams before his payroll eclipsed the next team by 70 mil. I think it's time he sold the team and for a new era for the Yankee organization.
I think the Yankees have wasted payroll money on players who haven't earned their keep. I don't care if the Yanks have the highest payroll in baseball, but spend wisely like you did in the late 1990's, not like you have in recent years and the entire decade of the 1980's.

Great point Web, I forgot about that.webdanzer wrote:Steinbrenner was never good at building teams. Gene Michael and Buck Showalter deserve the lion's share of the credit for the successfull Yankee foundation that they built on for their runs, operating as they were when the Boss was forced to be hands off.

Wow. $185 million payroll right? I had no idea the revenue share/luxury tax would be 80 million. Whoa.
It's from the Boston Herald. Hence "Georgie Porgie" thing.

I'd be curious to see what other teams are doing with that $80 million. Is it going to players or in owners pockets?James_E wrote:"And by the time Georgie Porgie is done paying the luxury tax for spending well over the limit and hands over what's expected for revenue sharing, the number he will wind up dishing out for this disaster will be more like $265 million. I don't feel sorry for him...Looking at his whole situation with the Yanks, I say that he got what he deserved, karma-wise, for the way he screwed the A's.pk500 wrote:I feel sorry for Giambi. No way...the Houston/St. Louis series has been better than the Florida/Chicago series last year. As for the AL...this years wins without a doubt. A game 7 walkoff is great and all but this years comeback is something that has NEVER happened in the history of baseball.Toper wrote:Ummm, how 'bout 2003?
The 2004 LCS destroys last years. So Ummm...2004.
You're saying that because he left the A's as a free agent, he deserves cancer?Toper wrote:I don't feel sorry for him...Looking at his whole situation with the Yanks, I say that he got what he deserved, karma-wise, for the way he screwed the A's.pk500 wrote:I feel sorry for Giambi. I never said 2003 was better. But a series where one team came back from 3-1 while the other series ended in a walkoff sure qualifies as exciting to me.dbdynsty25 wrote:No way...the Houston/St. Louis series has been better than the Florida/Chicago series last year. You said that you don't remember an exciting round of LCS's and I answered. "So ummm", don't get defensive...maybe you need to tell us what your definition of "exciting" is...I sure would like to know what the last "exciting" year of lcs's was to you (prolly 2000, '96, or '95, huh?).

I probably came off a little harsh...but if that's what you got from my post, I won't even waste my time responding any further, man.spooky157 wrote:You're saying that because he left the A's as a free agent, he deserves cancer?Toper wrote:I don't feel sorry for him...Looking at his whole situation with the Yanks, I say that he got what he deserved, karma-wise, for the way he screwed the A's.pk500 wrote:I feel sorry for Giambi. In case you missed it, I said: "I can't remember the last time that both LCS's were this exciting." That to me, that means that nothing has surpassed this years. Although the Braves beating the Pirates with Sid Breams slow ass certainly qualifies for the NLCS side.Toper wrote:I sure would like to know what the last "exciting" year of lcs's was to you (prolly 2000, '96, or '95, huh?).
Plus I didn't say there weren't other EXCITING years, I just said NONE of them surpass this years.
Do you have literacy problems? There is help for that you know...we can probably hook you up with a name and number if you'd like.
Someone who responds with, "That to me, that means that nothing has surpassed this years," (ummm, wtf?) doesn't need to be dissing other people's literacy...maybe you need to "hook yourself up" with that name and number, bro.dbdynsty25 wrote:In case you missed it, I said: "I can't remember the last time that both LCS's were this exciting." dbdynsty25 wrote:So I added another 'that'...so what. At least I didn't say a guy deserved cancer.
And who the f*ck said you were my bro?
First off, Thank the Lord Almighty you're not my bro/cuz/padna...I used it half in jest and half knowing it would illicit a response from you. There is NOTHING about you from reading your posts here that I would ever wish to have in a "bro".
Second, if you think I said a guy deserved cancer...see my post to spooky above. If anyone else thinks I implied that, I apologize.
Lastly, I just wish that you would post what you meant. I've read WAAAY too many posts from you saying one thing, only to retract or halfstep yourself later in the same thread. You DID NOT say that "NONE of them surpass this year's" in your original post...you said "were this exciting", which, to me (and other people who grew up speaking English), means equal to. If you have a problem with my OPINION of thinking that the 2003 postseason was just as good and feel the need to attack my literacy (the irony!), then it's on you.
Anyways, I know your shtick about how you think you're some kind of "mod" around here, but to me you're nothing. Going through your spam is one of the worst things about visiting this site, but that's a small price I'm willing to pay to read about the great gaming impressions from people here that I've come to know and respect. I really wish there was an ignore feature on this board (I hope you're reading this, Jared!)...until then, I'll just have to keep scrolling past your non-funny one-liners.
Sorry for the rant, guys...back to your regular programming.

For someone that doesn't give a sh*t about what I post, you're sure spending a lot of your time on the subject. You're just as bad as Parker...another walking contradiction.Toper wrote:I really wish there was an ignore feature on this board (I hope you're reading this, Jared!)...until then, I'll just have to keep scrolling past your non-funny one-liners.
