What a job by the Red Sox. Gotta hand it to them - they made the Yanks their b*tches. Charlie Brown finally got to kick the football out of Lucy's hands.
After all those years of torment from the Yankees and us, their fans, it seems almost appropriate that they turn things around in the most dramatic and humiliating way for the Yanks. Watching Arod gave me flashbacks to Danny Tartabull, with Sheffield playing the part of Jack Clark and Kevin Brown as Ed Whitson.
Congrats to the Sox. Where have you gone, Joe Dimaggio?

I don't think Torre will be fired, but I expect Cashman to be gone, and lots of the team chopped. I don't think you'll see Gordon anymore.
Dynastic teams runs can really only be judged in retrospect. Some probably end the Yanks dynasty in 2001..I felt the dynastic 'team' lasted longer than that...but it ended tonight.
Boston is the AL big dog now, and the Yanks will be shooting for them next year.

On a bit of another note, that Schilling surgery is actually quite remarkable. According to ESPN, the Sox medical staff didn't have any examples of it being done before, so they did a practice run on a cadaver.
So not only were the Red Sox completing an amazing comeback against their hated rivals, they were breaking new sports surgery ground as well.
How long before we start hearing announcers talk about guys getting 'the Schilling Surgery' on their gimpy ankles?

Congrats to the Red Sox. Epic comeback, incredible grit and balls. High, high praise from me.
Shame on the Yanks. Greatest choke in baseball history, possibly in American sports history.
Cashman is toast. I think Steinbrenner may axe Torre, too. The Boss won't tolerate the albatross of a choke of this proportions well at all and will clean house.
Parker, lay on the smack, man. You've earned it, and so have the Red Sox.
Take care,
PK

My cap is duly tipped to the Red Sox- they proved they were the better team. It's a credit to them that they were able to extend the series long enough for the things that were supposed to win them the series to begin with to emerge- the pitching, the bullpen, the bench (as good as Ortiz and Foulke were, it's Roberts who is the MVP, as he singlehandedly extended games four and five). Meanwhile Tony Clark came in and just put a festering hole in the bottom half of the lineup. Also credit the Sox scouting staff for their adjustments, for as good as the Yankees were at attacking the Red Sox lineup early on, the Red Sox were even better at shutting down the heart of the Yankee order late.
It's upsetting, but I'll take a Red Sox win if it ends up being a good omen for the junior senator from Massachussets.

another interesting storyline besides the obvious
1946 rematch cards vs sox
or
clemens standing between the sox and there world title
or
bagwell vs the team that traded him away for nothing
or phil garners "we are family - of killer bees reunion tour" vs curt schillings "why cant it be us" battle of the battle cries
is the possible
texas team (also the favorite team of bush 41) vs massachussets team presidential showdown

I won't be going on a business trip.
Biggest choke in sports history, huge black mark on the franchise. Team's weak areas finally show through after being hidden during first 3 games.
I don't care if the Red Sox win the Series or not. I'm not the kind of fan that will now root for the Cards/Astros. I won't change to a Marlins avatar and start pulling for another team like some did last year. I back the Yankees, and the Yankees only.
Maybe instead of signing another slugger or three this offseason we could get a quality pitcher or two who's under 45.
I changed my mind, I hope the Red Sox lose the World Series. Baseball season would be alot less fun if they actually win a title.

What can I say? We won. But our mission is not done. We will not leave unfinished business in the world series like the Yanks did last year.
Congrats Parker. Remember not to give up on your boys if they get behind in the Series.

Enjoy it man it's been awhile. As a Reds fan I think I will be waiting an awful long time to taste the Series again let alone the Playoffs.
Yes...but no. There were structural reasons why the Yankees lost, and there's no getting around it. I mean, they sent Felix Heredia, Quantrill and Loaiza out there to pitch arguably the most important innings of the season. That's where things were at. And let's face it, the breaks didn't go the Yankees way this year. If that ball doesn't bounce high for a ground rule double, the Yanks win in five. Didn't happen. There was an accumulation of moments where things that usually go the Yankees way just didn't. But they could never close the deal. Too many men left on base, too many innings out of the middle relief, and finally too much on the line to be in a position where Kevin Brown and Javier Vasquez are your two options.TheFormerBrett44 wrote:I won't be going on a business trip.

The Red Sox were just better.
Do you suppose that somewhere Grady Little was watching the game and remarking: "What the hell are they doing? leave Pedro in the game for Christmas sakes!"
And let's not forget our history. After the incredible comeback against the Angels in '86, everyone said "Win or lose the series, the curse is over."
On a side note, ARod obviously made the right decision. Personally, I would kill for a job with an extra week off!!

I completely agree. Every game in the Cards/Houston series has been close. Backe and Williams pitched masterfully in game 5 of one hit ball each and it receieved hardly any pub from the media. Two walk-off homeruns back to back in games 5 and 6. Talk about a roller coaster of emotions.dbdynsty25 wrote:That was a pretty damn entertaining series. I think the Houston/STL is even better though. Too bad no one except for Cardinal and Astro fans give a crap about it.
For one, they aren't NY and Boston, one of the hatest rivalries in sports. Second, Houston and St. Louis both respect one another immensely.
Whatever happens tonight, I'd love to see what took place at the end of the Dodgers/Cardinals series. Larry Walker (huge hockey fan) made mention to LaRussa at the beginning of the series that it'd be a nice gesture from the losing team to come out and shake the hands of the winners. LaRussa made mention of this to Jim Tracey and the Dodgers players came out respectfully and shooks the Cardinals players hands and wished them luck. It was the best sign of sportsmanship I think I've ever seen in baseball.
