After a lot more time with the game here are some more detailed thoughts.
Being able to turn off the swing bias and set it to uneven lie only, or whatever it is, has made the game a lot more enjoyable for me. Saying that, after leveling up my player, Pro difficulty has become a bit too easy as I’m starting to put up some ridiculous scores. I still prefer this over having the swing bias though.
Online Ranked Tour has become pretty much unplayable as people are putting up insane -20 or better rounds daily. What could be a nice mode is riddled with cheaters ruining the mode completely.
Archetype, where do I start? I get what they’re trying to do here, but I don’t like being pigeonholed into a certain play style after making my decision. Why not just give a set number of attribute points to use how I see fit? So if I want to load up on swing path, contact, and rhythm while neglecting power, shaping and putting attributes just let me do it. Don’t limit me to how many points I can put into a specific attribute based on my Archetype. They could have kind of done the same thing as Archetype by just capping the number of attribute points and letting the user distribute as they see fit. That way you could pay the VC to respec and play around with different strengths and weaknesses without having to start a whole new character to level up and build out with a different Archetype.
Same can be said for the Skill Trees
Speaking of VC…. Jeez Louise have they over corrected here with the nerfing of the amount you earn and then increasing the cost of everything. It’s pretty bad now. Like really bad.
The quests can be fun, but I wish they would have put more thought into it. EA’s TW13 had Course Mastery which I really enjoyed. It made me want to come back to each course to knock out all of the challenges and “Master” the course. I’d be nothing shy of giddy if they added something like that in with a patch down the stretch.
The DSP Society is A+ and is what’s going to give the game its legs after completing a season or two of My Career. JC is doing an amazing job administering the Society. If you haven’t joined, definitely look into it. It’s great stuff!
Overall the game is really enjoyable and it’s a nice alternative to EA’s PGA Tour. I don’t think the single player quite as engaging, but it’s definitely improved over 2K21 (I didn’t play 23 to compare).
One area that I think 2K does do better is being able to hold greens on mid-to-long range approaches. IMO EA struggled a little bit there.
Anyway, overall I have mostly positives to say about the game and think it’s a really solid. I dig it!
What am I missing?
**EDIT**
Oh, leveling up clubs. I’m still at a loss here and as confused as ever. I have no understanding at all of how this is supposed to work. I’ve pretty much given up on it.
