Out of the box, "Perfect Swing" is enabled. It's basically the games casual mode where the swing stick is straight up and down and it's very hard to hit a bad shot. Once you get familiar with the game and create a player, you graduate to "Evo Swing" where you must select a fade/hook bias, and the swing stick path will change as well.

I think this is what you experienced. It takes an hour or two to get used to, but the additional challenge is welcomed. I love the Evo Swing mechanic and really think they nailed it this year.

Also, for some free VC (600), go to Settings/Codes and enter LAUNCHDAY

this has probably been addressed here in this thread but i don't feel like going back many pages.

When I played a regular game, the swing was fine. up and down hit.

I went to one of those daily tournaments where it's off easy, and man I have no idea wtf i'm doing w/ the swing.

I do a straight up and down swing and my ball goes way off to the right. I fooled around with it and figured out the angle of the swing window was diagonal and did that where I swing from center and then move it left and it sort of curved to the left. But still a really bad swing.

The tutorial in the beginning of the game didnt address this. Is there another tutorial in the game that explains this?

and my guy is a magician. is that the default? how can I change it? or is that fine?
The diagonal swing interface is controversial to say the least. It doesn't make sense to me that I have to execute a diagonal swing path with the controller, when I'm trying to hit a straight shot off a relatively level lie. It feels like a contrived difficulty tactic to me. I can see it on a sidehill lie and have no trouble with it there. I have set the DSP tournament rounds to Pro swing difficulty, but I've also turned the automatic swing bias (which is what requires the diagonal swing path on on flat lies) OFF starting out. You will only see the diagonal swing requirement with this setting when you are on a non level lie. In fact it's easy to overlook that and forget to apply a diagonal swing when you that are called for, even though the swing meter clearly shows where the desired tick marks are for the required swing path for the condition of your lie.

If you are playing a casual round, just go into the "Difficulty" menu and turn off "Swing Bias", or set it to "Unlevel lies only"... something like that.

You can create a new golfer and decide their "archetype" during the creation phase. I chose "Technician" for my player, but I also have a "Greenskeeper" archetype player as well, just to experiment with what I player who has a high putter weight putting stroke feels like. I think the game's biggest weakness is in how it doesn't convey the feel of the the putter weight and the sound and feel of its contract and transfer of momentum into the ball. The heavier putter weight helped, but it still doesn't quite deliver what I think could be there. It's adequate enough to get the job done, but there's room for improvement there. I feel like I'm striking the putt with a hollow plastic putter sometimes with my Technician golfer, and a putter weight that's maxed out at 77, I believe it is.

i just started MY CAREER with Q School.

I played my first course and it simmed thru and I think I got to play only 3-4 holes in round 1.

Is that how it is in career mode or can I play all 18 holes?

I also see I have the setting for 4 rounds for every course. Is that recommended? I think for the other golf games I did one round for events and 4 rounds for majors/championships.

I don't mind doing 4 rounds in 2K golf because the game moves so fast.

update - i figured out how to do the rounds in the settings.

this game is hard!

I'm trying to get this evo thing down but keep failing. maybe I have to upgrade my golfer to do it right. but my swings always mess up.

i went back to the regular mode thinking i'd be better but no. i don't know the golf course but the greens all had slopes. i kept trying to get it above the slope and it kept rolling down. I exceeded the shot limit on that course like 5 times! And this was on Easy!

2k23 was more pickup and play. 2k25 is much much harder. but that's a good thing. I really want to learn this game because I want to take advantage of all the online features I ignored in 2k23.

Tried matchmaking online and I had a lot of fun!

I went 6-1 with the quick match mode where you play 3 holes vs 3 other players.

And the only loss was a playoff.

Not sure how I got so good or maybe the game is broken lol. I was able to use the pro am settings in this mode while others seemed to have been struggling. Maybe I'm just lucky I'm running into first time players who are only playing the online mode.

Anyway I had a lot of fun playing and winning online!

All of you “streaming is now” kids need to stream this game. Even locally from my Xbox it’s a disaster. Any shot that needs less than 100% power is virtually impossible. Played a few holes and bailed.

Feeling quite comfortable on Amateur. Definitely need quite a bit of practice on Pro Am. I'm hitting some near perfect shots on that level, but the ball is going every which way. Likely due to my low level golfer.

I'm cruising on Career Mode in Amateur but an increase in challenge would be welcome. Just trying to find that right balance.

I upped mine to Pro Am now. But it's still sort of too easy if you aren't on that EVO swing difficulty. But my strategy here is too gather up most of the VC I can and then after the end of the career upgrade my player.

you should try the casual online. it's really fun. I thought it would be overwhelming and I'd be beat but I"m not that good of a player and winning and being competitive. I haven't tried Ranked though.

Daily tourneys still way too hard since I haven't really succeeded with Evo.

The EVO swing really made me pissed about this game. but now I sort of understand the progression so I'm looking forward to it. You can't just go blindly into EVO and think it'll play like EA PGA or 2K23.

btw why has PK500 stayed slient here? isn't he a video game golf gamer?

You guys are really making it hard to pass on this for now, but I am holding out. Still working on a huge backlog of games and with fishing starting up, I really don't want to get this because I know I will want to get in the society and play every night. Golf+ is making easier too since it scratches that golf itch.

It does sound like they pretty much improved everything and made it more difficult, which I was hoping for.

If you're a casual golf gamer I think you can get the same experience from EA PGA or PGA2K3 for now. You can wait for a price drop later in the year if you're in no hurry.

If you're a hardcore golf gamer and need the most realistic game I think you should consider this one. I'm not really doing the EVO swing but all the hardcore golf gamers are talking how it's the most realistic swing in videogames so I'd go with that.

One reason I bought it is that usually there are not many sports games released early part of the year, so this is nice to have a new sports game. I was doing 2 madden franchises on xbx and ps5 and also my cfb dynasty. It was getting tiring doing both so a new game is a breath of fresh air. Also, MLB THE SHOW is coming out in a few weeks so this game and the show will keep me busy until CFB26 comes out in July.

I was able to get into today’s daily without it freezing on me at the loading screen.

JC, I’m a big fan of the settings you’re using. This course and round were a lot of fun. Looking forward to participating on a regular basis, thanks for setting all of this up.

After a lot more time with the game here are some more detailed thoughts.

Being able to turn off the swing bias and set it to uneven lie only, or whatever it is, has made the game a lot more enjoyable for me. Saying that, after leveling up my player, Pro difficulty has become a bit too easy as I’m starting to put up some ridiculous scores. I still prefer this over having the swing bias though.

Online Ranked Tour has become pretty much unplayable as people are putting up insane -20 or better rounds daily. What could be a nice mode is riddled with cheaters ruining the mode completely.

Archetype, where do I start? I get what they’re trying to do here, but I don’t like being pigeonholed into a certain play style after making my decision. Why not just give a set number of attribute points to use how I see fit? So if I want to load up on swing path, contact, and rhythm while neglecting power, shaping and putting attributes just let me do it. Don’t limit me to how many points I can put into a specific attribute based on my Archetype. They could have kind of done the same thing as Archetype by just capping the number of attribute points and letting the user distribute as they see fit. That way you could pay the VC to respec and play around with different strengths and weaknesses without having to start a whole new character to level up and build out with a different Archetype.

Same can be said for the Skill Trees

Speaking of VC…. Jeez Louise have they over corrected here with the nerfing of the amount you earn and then increasing the cost of everything. It’s pretty bad now. Like really bad.

The quests can be fun, but I wish they would have put more thought into it. EA’s TW13 had Course Mastery which I really enjoyed. It made me want to come back to each course to knock out all of the challenges and “Master” the course. I’d be nothing shy of giddy if they added something like that in with a patch down the stretch.

The DSP Society is A+ and is what’s going to give the game its legs after completing a season or two of My Career. JC is doing an amazing job administering the Society. If you haven’t joined, definitely look into it. It’s great stuff!

Overall the game is really enjoyable and it’s a nice alternative to EA’s PGA Tour. I don’t think the single player quite as engaging, but it’s definitely improved over 2K21 (I didn’t play 23 to compare).

One area that I think 2K does do better is being able to hold greens on mid-to-long range approaches. IMO EA struggled a little bit there.

Anyway, overall I have mostly positives to say about the game and think it’s a really solid. I dig it!

What am I missing?

**EDIT**

Oh, leveling up clubs. I’m still at a loss here and as confused as ever. I have no understanding at all of how this is supposed to work. I’ve pretty much given up on it.

Well I think I'm going to break down at some point and buy an Xbox X and get the game but I won't be playing societies or and online tours as the market is being flooded with wired controllers and yes that is where th -20 scores are coming from. Was in a couple Reddit threads and it seems to be the new rage and players who were shooting 7 over now shooting 7 under. In video games you will never stop the cheating but the game looks good enough to me to play as a single player and that will be good enough for me. It's a shame but until the developers make the consoles only playable with the official controllers you will never have a true Sim. Just my opinion and don't hat the messenger.

I've been doing online more and the ranked online daily and weekly courses, ppl are shooting like -50 for 4 round offline tourneys and -20s to -30s for daily tourneys.

I have no idea how ppl would be so good unless they were cheating. I read that some of the cheating comes from PC players using keyboard controls. I don't even know what the keyboard controls are.

The best I've ever shot on PRO Online is like -3.

The game is futile to play in ranked online.

Maybe i've overplayed the game and need to take a break. I finished career mode but really don't want to start another season. I enjoy the unranked 4player mode and all the other unranked online modes because it seems like everyone is chill playing.

But If you're on the fence, I'd wait for a price drop. The cheating is way too much and really makes me feel like the game online is beyond me.

Playing this game is akin to playing Dark Souls. It's ridiculously hard but I still keep trying. I have no idea how people are shooting under par in our events but kudos to you.

I'd like to request our weekend tournaments match the locations of the tour events. I'm all for trying user made courses but I'd like to play where the pros are on the weekends.
