I saw that too while browsing. But do you need to have it thru DTV or can you buy it separately thru Sony/PS4?

At least XBL has basic features. PSN stuff sometimes pisses me off since it's missing so much basic things. For example, if someone on my friends list comes on, it doesn't notify me on PSN like it would on XBL. Or am I missing an option or something? Also when I go to recent players on PSN, it has people I played like 2-3 mo ago, nobody recent. Also, does the damn send message option work within a game? I know I can send messages from the UI when there is no game running. But when I have sent messages while in game and going out of the UI, friends on my list have told me they never got anything.

You can buy it separately from DirecTV if you have a billing address that cannot get DirecTV (or know someone who does in my case). The Sunday Ticket app is available on both systems...however, it's WAY better on the PS4. That's what I was implying. Much faster and smoother, and loads up the games in about half the time. More like real TV where you have to wait 10 seconds or so loading each game on XB1. The PS4 MLB app is equally more impressive on the PS4 in comparison to the XB1 version as well. You can actually jump to the inning you want to go to! Can't do that on the XB1 version. So stupid.

I'm interested as to why you say that. I'm thinking of picking one up even though I know most of the sports games are going to look/play the same as ps4. Maybe it's forza or just having both systems. But you really think PS4 is that much better experience?

I went into GS today asking about XBO deals in the future. The guys behind the counter told me basically don't get one, just get PS4. I was like wtf. Isn't our job to make sales. If a customer comes in interested about a product, as a salesman wouldn't you be doing the best to hype the product up to make a sale. lol Typical gamestop. I guess they were being honest w/ their opinion.

Honestly, having to use a controller instead of a remote to control any streaming video (or blu-rays for that matter) is a deal breaker for me. If watching steaming video is important, then there is no way I would choose a PS4. None.

Ya I can see that if you're into the media thing. But just for gaming perspective, other than Forza, can you seal the deal for me on xbo? I know I will love the controller, xbox live, and ea access. s***, I think I just sealed the deal for myself. Hope I can get a good deal in the next few months.

Not even about lag. It literally is like watching TV. No delay switching streams, a simpler interface that doesn't load all of the plays and highlights everytime you scroll to a game...etc. It's much more "on demand"...where you only load what you want to. Much more streamlined and well thought out. Kind of like the MLB at Bat app...where you can actually jump to the inning...and it actually works. The streaming on the XB1 is terrible overall...tho when it does work, I think the picture is slightly better. So there's that.

(and I'm hard wired to my router with both, so it's not my network)

All I can say is I've enjoyed the console. They've had a ton of software updates that have really made the OS a strength of the console. If you like the exclusives that have come out or will be coming, there is nothing about the console that is going to make you regret the experience.

I do use the XB1 for Netflix, Amazon, Youtube, and Twitch often. I like that if I'm watching TV, I can switch to any of those streaming services without picking up a controller that is probably sitting on a the charging stand. Whether I launch the app with my voice or navigate via my Harmony remote, I use the remote to navigate their interfaces, as well as play, pause, etc. And if I have the remote, I usually just use it to play and pause. But it is nice that my wife or daughter can pause or mute it while we are watching, too.

I can't compare the social aspect to the PS4, because I have never messed with that part of the console. But the activity feed is a huge bonus now. You get a stream of what achievements your friends are unlocking, as well as any clips they share. If I use Record That, it automatically records the last 30 seconds and posts it to my feed. It's pretty cool to score a goal, have a great play in Madden, or finally beat a map in Trials, and share it right away. Better, people can "Like" it and comment on it. Sometimes it is just fun, sometimes they are questions about games. It's a huge improvement over the line of 360 avatars that show you what everyone is playing currently.

For there not to be a separate Sony specific remote for Blu-rays and streaming is unexcusable. It's not terrible using the controller, but it's still a bit cumbersome. Gotta think one will be available sooner than later.

If the UI is different, I'd think that's more of app coding issue than a console issue. I thought it looked pretty good, but I also I have my DTV going through the xb1 - so no real reason to use an app over the Sunday Ticket broadcast.

It for sure is an app coding issue. The UI is better for both sports. We'll see about NBA soon. But it's weird that both the NFL and MLB are better on the PS4. Obviously MS has their hands in it somehow...cuz they f'd both apps up in comparison.

And of course, if you've got DirecTV it's gonna be better. :)

Has the UI for XBO improved since launch? I hated that windows 8 crap they put in there.

Yeah, it's still Metro tiles all the way. I hated the Metro interface in Windows 8, but I like it in my WP8 phone, and it works here, too.

But yeah, if you hate the squares, you aren't going to like them here. I find it makes for an more organized UI that is quick and easy to navigate, even without the Kinect. YMMV.

Good Lord, you motherf*ckers are picky broads. I just can't wait to play current-gen games on a proven online network through a system family tree that has given me oodles of enjoyment for the last 12 years.

Forza Horizon 2, too. :)

+1 for PK :).

As far as the consoles - to each his own. I really like the XB1 interface but I understand that some dislike the 'Metro Style' of its UI. There are just too many pluses on the XB1 convenience factor for me. I love the TV functionality...LOVE IT. To me that is the biggest reason that I use the XB1 more than the PS4. Other things stand out too - social aspects (activity feed), friends list interaction (vastly improved since launch), Kinect voice activation of nearly everything (DVR functions, games, tv volume, etc.). Snap functionality is very cool was watching the Phils last night while I played a round of The Golf Club. Recording convenience ("Xbox Record That). The slight (and it is slight to my eye) game visuals advantage of the Ps4 is minimal at best. My opinion. Considering all of this I favor the XB1. Oh yeah, Xbox Live is kinda good too.

PS - I still love my PS4 though :)

Aside from watching TV while gaming, and changing channels with your voice, are there other big benefits to using the Xbox for TV?

I've been tempted one afternoon when not lazy to hook that up, and possibly reprogram my remote if it was worth it.......

Going seamlessly from game to Tv to game (and other apps)...without having to change the input on your TV. Sounds like something very simple but it's great. In the middle of a game of Forza..."Xbox, watch Tv"...game pauses - Welcome to TV. "Xbox, goto Forza Motorsport" - bam, welcome to your game...right where you left off.

One thing I really like is due to the fact that since TWC NYC recently changed their entire channel line up, I can't remember a lot of the actual channel numbers of the channels I want to watch.

So with Kinect, I can just say "Xbox, watch NBC Sports" or "Xbox, watch HBO," and I don't have to struggle to remember where they moved those channels or anything. It just changes the channel for me.

Also it's nice to be able to change volume, mute, or change the channel without having to physically reach for the remote. I know it sounds silly when I type it, but honestly that's a pretty nice thing, because when I'm on the couch watching TV, I don't sit with the remote in my hand at all times. And finally, when watching TV, being able to turn the whole system off with a simple voice command is pretty darn nice as well.

As someone that had an Xbox One for several months before being able to run my cable box through it I can honestly say that it is totally worth doing so. Everything that Zep and Diablo mentioned are spot on. It is now something I expect from all future gaming consoles.
