I'm in the same boat (exactly the same, in fact - I just built a mid-range PC, and a new desk for it...) and its like being a kid in a candy store...between iRacing, pCars (which I'm yet to play, since I didn't invest in the funding scheme, but am very excited about), Game Stock Car, Assetto Corsa and rFactor 2, there's so much to be enthusiastic about.
Wheel-wise, I'm a bit out of the loop but Terry raved about his Thrustmaster further up the page and his recommendation has me tempted to upgrade to one. A thought I have had, though, just as a little insurance policy in case your return to sim racing ends up underwhelming you a bit - have you considered seeking out a deal on a Logitech G27? That'll be perfectly serviceable and not so expensive, assuming you can locate one somewhere.

Adam you should seriously look at Fanatec i believe Terry likes it even more than his thrustmaster and then you can cover all 3 platforms with it no? that way you still get the occasional dsp thing too.GB_Simo wrote:I'm in the same boat (exactly the same, in fact - I just built a mid-range PC, and a new desk for it...) and its like being a kid in a candy store...between iRacing, pCars (which I'm yet to play, since I didn't invest in the funding scheme, but am very excited about), Game Stock Car, Assetto Corsa and rFactor 2, there's so much to be enthusiastic about.

iRacing 2013 Season 4 build Released - Bathhurst Baby!!
With all my gaming time spent on F1 2013 and Rocksmith 2014, I forgot that this was iRacing Week 13 when the new build is usually released. Bathurst, New Jersey Motorsports Park (tech track), and the Nascar Nationwide Ford Mustang are some of the highlights of this build.

Make sure you watch this in HD.The 2013 Season 4 build introduces a variety of new league features, equips more cars with the NTMv5 and introduces the Nationwide Ford Mustang along with several tracks, including Australia’s legendary Bathurst.
For openers, we’ve added the new tire model (NTM v5) to the Mazda MX5 Cup and Roadster, SpecRacer Ford, Pontiac Solstice and Legends Ford, and improved the drafting characteristics on a bunch of road course cars. Graphics-wise, the build includes major improvements to the dynamic shadows and also now supports up to 2048 x 2048 car textures.
We’ve also added and enhanced lots of features to make league administrators’ jobs easier and/or more “authentic.” For example, there are several new options for notifying league members when new sessions are created. Administrators can also now run qualifiers without a race component and set-up automatic disqualification based on a maximum allowable number of incidents per race.
Needless to say, we’re excited to announce the wait is over for those who’ve been itchin’ to take a crack at Bathurst, aka Mt. Panorama Motor Racing Circuit Bathurst. One of the world’s most legendary circuits, Bathurst hearkens to the days of racing on the public roads with its great “flow” and dramatic elevation changes and our second “technical track” -- New Jersey Motorsports Park’s Thunderbolt Circuit – is also now available.
And speaking of additions, the Nationwide Ford Mustang has been added to an iRacing garage that already includes the Nationwide Chevy Impala, so we can look forward to Chevy v Ford in NASCAR iRacing.com Class B Series competition in Season 4.

Fellas,
I'm unfamiliar with Iracing yet this caught my attention. How many dsp guys race at Iracing? I see they recently added mac support which would interest me very much as i'm writing this on a new 27" iMac. Does Iracing have different classes based on driver skill or would a new guy be a liability on the track?
Any additional info would be appreciated.

iRacing is all about classes. In fact, you start out as a Rookie, and have to earn your way into the next levels by racing or time trialing with clean laps and little to no "incidents". They have separate classes for Road vs. Oval series. The classes go as follows - Rookie, Rookie-Advanced, D, C, B, A, Pro. You then can compete in a variety of road and oval official series that go every 12 weeks and take your best 8 out of 12 weeks for championship standings. Within the series there are 10 Divisions as well. So you can always find someone to be racing against at your skill level.FifaInspected wrote:Fellas,

There is also "spectator" racing where you can get into a race as a "ghost" where others will not see you and you can learn without doing any harm. Finally, there is also "hosted" league racing which was what this thread was originally about where you can find a wide variety of skill levels and realism settings.
I have not been able to compete regularly in awhile outside of an occassional time trial, however, I hope to start back up again for this final 12 week season of 2013 which starts today. Have not decided on a series yet, but may try the Indycar Oval Fixed series.

I subscribed and then had the system crash on me two times. I get an error that says something about "there is a serious problem and the application must close"

Not sure on that one. Did everything finish downloading? I have heard of corrupt downloads before.FifaInspected wrote:I subscribed and then had the system crash on me two times. I get an error that says something about "there is a serious problem and the application must close"
iRacing has great technical support. You can actually call and talk to a person. I would start there
The support site has a lot of links to questions about MAC setup, so you might find something there as well.
