If it it ends up sending Tarasenko back to Russia, I'm gonna be a real sad panda.MizzouRah wrote:How depressing..pk500 wrote: Especially since it looks like we won't see real NHL hockey until around Christmas, at the earliest.

Heck never mind Tarasenko, E.Malkin has signed with a Russian team if the lock out prevails.

Tarasenko has an NHL contract so whenever the NHL starts up, he will have to come back from Russia.Aristo wrote:If it it ends up sending Tarasenko back to Russia, I'm gonna be a real sad panda.MizzouRah wrote:How depressing..pk500 wrote: Especially since it looks like we won't see real NHL hockey until around Christmas, at the earliest.

I get that. But I still have this sick feeling that it could all fall apart. I might just be paranoid.tjung0831 wrote:Tarasenko has an NHL contract so whenever the NHL starts up, he will have to come back from Russia.Aristo wrote:

It just feels like getting him to the NHL was always a delicate negotiation, and the NHL shutting down will drive him to try to rid himself of the contract. If he were in the US right now, I'd be less worried. The fact that he is in Russia now, and has no plans to come here until the dispute is settled worries me. He's getting a full earful of how lame the NHL is on a daily basis.

Re: NHL 13
I never played HUT mode before and I may just give it a try this time around.
Re: NHL 13
Wow, no career length and salary cap is a major change. Before, there was a basically a limit on team quality unless you wanted to spend a ton of time/money getting high priced and upgradeable young players, putting them on a long contract, and then upgrading them while locked into a low salary cap hit. I never bothered and accepted my team would be much worse than these guys. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
Also, the mobile HUT app is amusing.

It seems like it's now very much like how UT works in FIFA, where you have lots of tournaments based on different team parameters. For example, in FIFA there are permanent tournaments for bronze and silver teams where all players must be no better than that card level. But then they will also throw in occasional temporary tournaments with different types of limits, such as total team OVR must be below a certain number (so you could mix in a few really good players with some really scrubby players, or have everyone sort of middling instead), or all players must play in a certain league, or all players must be from a sinngle country of your choice, that kind of thing.Naples39 wrote:Wow, no career length and salary cap is a major change. This way if you just want to play one-off matches you can build a super team and try your luck. But for me of course, I don't want to spend the real $$ it takes to mess around with getting the top notch superstars, so these tourneys with limits are fantastic for me. Not only do they keep the competitiveness relatively fair, they give incentive to go get new players to build different teams continuously for a long time.
I loved this mode in FIFA the last two years, so I'm happy to see NHL seemingly reconfigure its UT mode to be more in line with what they've been doing in FIFA. Of course, maybe I'm way off base, but it seems to me that's what they're doing.
Re: NHL 13
It's too bad you can't keep the players that you unlocked in the demo because I would have been totally fine building up my team with the stack that I got after winning a 'Live Moment' game. I am pretty sure that EA sweetened the pot too in there. And as in Fifa, I am sure that building good chemistry will be the key to building a decent team. So even if you have a Sidney Crosby card playing with a bunch of second fiddlers won't do too much damage.
Playing a lot of tournaments to get decent cash is the way to go, I'll be saving my cash to extend players' contracts and taking care of injuries instead.
My concern with no salary caps is that everyone will be gunning for that superstar card ( good luck, I knew EA would try to get their buck here and there) while longer contracts on younger players seem insignificant.

I gave it a try last year and liked it but this year looks a lot better. I'll definitely have a squad!10spro wrote:I never played HUT mode before and I may just give it a try this time around.

Will NHL 13's franchise mode suffer the same fate as Madden? http://www.puckgamer.com/what-does-madd ... or-nhl-13/

Didn't M13 basically copy FIFA's franchise mode at least from FIFA 12? Maybe they're going that way for all their games - pick Coach or Player Franchise.

Saw this new ad online.
Makes me more pumped up for this game, but a little sorrowful for the looming lockout of real hockey.
I so love the demo. I have spent way too much time in free skate just working the goalie, marveling at the skating. (the one-period demo games are too annoying for me). I have several go-to ways to score now, but honestly 5-hole is my most consistent method. That never happens in videogame hockey. I also really like that if you see the goalie leaning and leaving a side of the net open you can simply wrist the puck by him with no frills. Another rare sight in video-game hockey.
