London 2012. Let the Games Begin...

And no, there's not enough controversy in boxing, so why not make it worse at the Olympics? How the current Chinese medallist Zou won his light fly bout against the Cuban Veijia is a travesty. A mock up of the recent farce at the Pro level between Bradley and Pacman. Zou just fouled his way to the win and the judges gave him the unanimous decision.
Mr Bolt just looked so cool and calm, cruising to the semis.

That was exactly the scare the USA needed after the blowout win against Nigeria.Feanor wrote:Great basketball game going on between USA and Lithuania right now.

Chelsea FC won't be disappointed in signing Oscar to start their season. The Brazilian has been a pleasure to watch so far, this guy has so much skills to show for. I have been pleasantly surprised watching the Honduras team at the games. They beat Spain already and are playing well against Brazil.
Re: London 2012. Let the Games Begin...
2-2 right now, but I missed the last two goals watching another channel.

Brazil up by 1, but you can hardly tell the Honduras team was a man short. The PK was a gift to the Brazilians.Feanor wrote:2-2 right now, but I missed the last two goals watching another channel.

Fantastic race in the women's team pursuit. Australia-USA racing to see who would race for gold and ended in a very close finish.
Re: London 2012. Let the Games Begin...
The Brits are going crazy over their six gold medals on Saturday, especially for Jessica Ennis. The Sun had the best headline.

Dont know if they won but I was watching some of the Czech womens beach volleyball vs Brazil today.

Just imagine how great he could truly be if he quit f***in off and got really serious about sprinting. This guy could run 9.1 - 9.2 if he really wanted to. He could set a record that would be Beamon-esque if he put his mind to it.pk500 wrote:BOLT. HOLY. F*CK.

The amazing thing about Usain, is that he rarely gets off a great start, but eventually he just plain outruns the rest of the field in the last 40 meters.

f*** NBC for not showing ts live on any of their TV channels. I watched it a tiny box on their Live Extra video page because their actual Track & Field feed was freezing and buffering.

Wow...classic Woman's soccer match at Old Trafford. The US pulled that one out....with a little help from the ref IMO. Great resolve by both teams. Congrats to Canada as well for arriving in Woman's soccer.

I'm going to ignore the obvious ref jokes

You think? Helluva game, regardless. The loss erases a great effort by M. Sinclair who scored a hat trick and they played well enough to steal one, but it was not meant to be.pigpen81 wrote:Wow...classic Woman's soccer match at Old Trafford. The earlier semis between Japan and France was great to watch as well, but it wasn't as dramatic as the USA-Canada game.
The rematch with Japan for the gold should be exciting to watch.

I watched the game with my daughters (7 and 9) because they are both playing travel soccer now. Was pretty exciting although I don't ever recall seeing a goalie called for holding the ball too long. Of course the Canucks got away with a lot of pushes but then a handball was missed on the American end. Overall a poorly officiated game IMO but again I don't watch a lot of soccer mainly because of how poor the officiating usually is whenever I do watch.
I certainly didn't care hearing the comments the Canadian coach made before the game but they seemed to keep harping on it and it felt a bit unfair, seemed like normal gamesmanship but then he had this little winner after the game speaking of the ref.

Maybe if you put a defender on the near post you would of still won.She will have to sleep in bed tonight after watching the replays," Herdman said. "She's gonna have to live with that. We will move on from this. I wonder if she will be able to."

I've watched football for 30+ years and never, ever, seen a free kick given to a keeper for wasting time. A yellow card, yes, free kick - no. f***in horseshit decision by the ref who had an awful game but on the balance of it the US deserved to go through just from the chances they created. Great game to watch.
Nice rematch of the last World Cup final to look forward to.

The fact that refs miss calls in soccer matches is a reality in every country that the sport is being played at. It's a cruel reality. So many matches have been won and lost because of unfortunate wrong decisions influenced by the refs.
They were bad calls on both sides today, I can live with that.
But to pull literally a rabbit out of a hat in the form of an indirect FK for wasting time is something I've never seen before and I do follow my footie regularly.
You can make bad calls within the rules of the game but don't invent one out of the blue. Having said that, credit goes to the best team in the world for quickly tying things up in different occasions.
It was one of those matches that it was sad to see it end.

The women's tournament is equal to the World Cup in stature because the same players compete in both events.wco81 wrote:Good thing nobody cares about Olympics soccer ...
The men's Olympic tournament has nowhere near the same caliber of players as the World Cup, Euro 2012 or even the Premier League. That point was made very clear earlier in this thread.
