Agreed. I like Bf3 more. I still like BC2 once in a while. I just wish Dice would get this patch going!Teal wrote:.

Re: Battlefield 3
Your point is valid and well-taken. No question my improved success in BC2 is partly due to the lesser skill level of most opponents.Teal wrote:I loved BC2, don't get me wrong, but I like BF3 just fine. There's a tendency to look to the past, though, through rose-colored glasses, and the fact that there's almost no one playing BC2 anymore has an effect on the 'enjoyability' of the game. If I play a game and feel like Rambo, then yeah, I'm gonna say that game x, in which only a remnant are playing, therefore tipping the success in my direction, is better than game y, which is newer and therefore has more players on it, meaning a higher level of competition. Truth be known, there were things about BC2 that made me want to pull my hair out, too. It was damned near impossible, for instance, to knock a helicopter out of the sky on that game, too. Vietnam actually saved the game for me, and yeah, I'd love for them to move the Vietnam pack over to BF3. But one of the main reasons that BF3 seems more difficult is that we can't put together even a good 4 man squad alot of the time, and work as a team. Trust me, if we could consistently get a couple of 4 man squads, I'd do nothing but play squad rush, or rush in general.
For my part, I don't believe that BC2 is any better than BF3, just older, and more sparsely populated.
But I also think I do better in BC2 because the maps are much more wide-open and tactical than the more run-and-gun maps of BF3. No question BF3 has taken more of a COD turn with its map design.
Plus I find weapons are much more stable when shooting in BC2, even when the gun is set to rapid-fire. Whether it's less realistic or not, that stability makes me a more accurate shooter in BC2 than in BF3.
The rose-colored glasses also don't fit me. BF3 and BF:BC2 are my first two Battlefield games on a console. I got BF3 first, followed by BF:BC2 about a month later. So there's no yearning for the nostalgic past for me with either game.

Re: Battlefield 3
Two things I like more about BF:BC2 over BF3:
1. Personally I think the maps are much more interesting visually. The scale and the colors and the locations are SO much better IMO. That goes a long way for me. (especially when you throw in the Vietnam pack) - in fact- if you go back and read my initial impressions of BF:3 I was complaining right away about not liking the maps.
2. The fact that I could, in theory, set up private matches for any map and game type is awesome. That, coupled with the fact that I like the style better, is why I was hoping we could get 8-10 DSP guys to re-adopt this one in hopes of some truly awesome poker nights. In BF:BC2 we could even do team deathmatch if we wanted...
I truly don't think me liking BF:BC2 more has anything to do with me being more successful in it (I actually think I'm about the same in both games). And it bums me out that the rooms aren't typically full. But When I am playing it is usually against guys with VERY high ranks. It's the die hards that seem to still be playing it, not newbies.

Re: Battlefield 3
Well, I'm not going to give in to the forum effect and repurchase BC2 this time. I've purchased it twice in the past, and the last time, it was solely for Vietnam. But the lack of any ability to play it on a non-DSP night, due to the abysmal lack of participation (however understandable, considering, y'know...there's a new game and all). Just don't need another shooter in the rotation now. I've got BF3, OPF:RR, and OPF:DR, not to mention the non-shooter games I have, and hardly get to play. Couple that with the fact that, as it looks so far, GR:FS will be awesome in a couple of months, and there's just no need for me to get another Battlefield. I'm perfectly happy with the one I have, issues aside.
Been playing Rush more lately, and I've actually gotten to re-like playing it, even with randoms. Much more focused, objective-wise.

Re: Battlefield 3
Jimmy and I have been tackling the co-op mode the last couple of nights.
Holy cow. That's some fun stuff! After FINALLY polishing off the helicopter mission, which IS fun, just pucker-inducing nearly the whole time, we've made it to the last of the missions, yet haven't completed it, because it was 2 am and I needed to be asleep two hours prior, yet just couldn't stop playing. It made me think that, for the next Battlefield iteration, the entire campaign needs to be co-op with at least 4 players, and as wide open as the MP Battlefield maps are, with drivable tanks, jeeps, boats, choppers. In other words, make the campaign more in line with Battlefield, and less in line with CoD. CoD is seriously jumping the shark now, so I see no need to try and emulate them in any way. I hope that the upcoming Medal of Honor: Warfighter blazes it's own trail in SP (I still say MoH's MP was head and shoulders above CoD) as well, so that we have clear choices. This co-op we've been playing shows me the possibilities with Battlefield campaign, and I absolutely love it.

Would like to give this a go sometime with you cats. What's the maximum number of players allowed in a BF3 co-op game?

Two...of course.
However, I'm always up for repeating co-op ad nauseum, because it's so damned fun, so...say when.

Gotta shoot the guy in the white shirt first. Lame how the mission fails while no one is under threat, we all just stand there waiting for the correct input to be made.
Lame x2 but the other stuff is fun.

Depending on the breadth of the options, this could turn out to be a very good thing:

Infantry only? YES, please.
A huge map to accommodate armored battles? YES, please.
Thanks for the link!

The Close-Quarters pack is only going to support 16 players, which is so idiotic. While I don't mind the idea of another infantry-only map like Metro, you can already set up infantry-only games with the existing maps. Plus this means it will have taken EA eight months to release an original expansion pack (instead of the rehashed Back to Sprinting Around Karkland All Goddamned Match Because the Jeeps Are Gone pack).

It's the same guy who did the Shotgun Sniper video posted a few pages back ("recon is for p*ssies). I watched a bunch of his others and they are all incredibly funny. He's got a great one called "King of Nipples" where he creates a custom character in Soul Caliber V.Spooky wrote:"Oh SH*T! Seriously, what did we do before YouTube?

Battlefield 3: Call of Duty Mode
I'm not sure how I feel about these expansions. Will it be worth $15 to play a few COD-style maps? Will I want to pay $15 in the fall for vehicle heavy maps in a one-year old game when there will be dozens of new releases coming out? Hmmmm.

I am looking more forward to the patch than the COD type Maps.
