PK, be sure to get the FL invites out too. ;)

BTW, Amazon has 3 month xbl cards for 12.99 all day. Not the best deal over the full year's worth, but not bad in a pinch either.

As much as everyone likes to rag on Game Stop, be sure to check out their selection of used games. They can be returned within 7 days if you're not happy with the game.

Agreed. If you can't find Fifa 12 on sale you can't go wrong with this one. Still have it and I spin it from time 2 time for fun.
Thanks. I'm probably holding off on a soccer game since my kids are lukewarm on one -- even though they're all avid soccer players! -- and because I'm digging a heavily modded version of PES 12 on my lappy.

Besides skyrim, I've only bought used games or bargain bin games for the last year at least. There are so many excellent older games $25 or less that are new to me. Couldnt keep up with so many good quality games that I finally made the decision to go cheap. I can't play online so I don't have to stay current with popular online titles either. It can be tough to do sometimes though when you read about the current great games.

No, no, no, my man. I got back into the NBA last season, BIG TIME. Loved it, miss it terribly during the lockout. I'm all over NBA 2K12 soon, right after I buy the Mike Vick dogfighting sim. :)

And now the NBA is starting back up Christmas day! The rookies will now be a part of the game, and the NBA Today feature will rock once again. Can't wait!

pk500 wrote: What are some really good 360 games from the last few years that are worth getting on the cheap? Games that have great gameplay/stories and still look good?

My preferred genres are team sports, racing and first-person shooters, but my mind is open to an exceptional game in any genre.
I have some suggestions, let me know if you have more questions:

Chronicles of Riddick: Assault of Dark Athena 2 really solid FPS in one. I finished the first one (that was originally on Xbox) and it is fantastic with a mix of stealth/puzzle and FPS.

Mirror's Edge: Not your typical FPS, it is more of a platformer game. It is from DICE, which is one of my favorite developers. Old school feel as you try to best your times on each run.

Call of Juarez and the sequel: Solid FPS in western setting. Dirt cheap but I read the latest sequel (3) isn't so good, and already heavily discounted. I would stick with the first 2 and see if you like them.

Ghost Busters: 3rd person shooter, basically Gears in GB setting. If you like Gears and GB, you will like it.

Saints Row 2: GTA clone with better shooting mechanics.

Fight Night Round 4: If you can find the most recent one, it is pretty affordable but Round 4 is dirt cheap but basically the same (without the story mode from the latest).

Skate 3: It is the skateboarding sim, very very satisfying when you finally nail a great trick.

Ninja Gaiden 2: Fantastic ninja action game, it is very tough but rewarding.

Xmen Origins: Wolverine: One of the best movie adaptation. Kinda like Ninja Gaiden lite.

Mafia II: Fun GTA clone set in the old days, but it is pretty linear/focused so you don't do a lot of extraneous missions.

Shadows of the Damned: 3rd person action/horror game, has mature language/violence so it is not for kids.

Dead Space 1/2: Resident Evil in space, but done way better than the recent RE5. A must play.

Hunted The Demon's Forge: Gears in fantasy clothing. Pretty decent for the price.

Crysis 2: I got this really cheap used from Gamefly, but I believe the MSRP has came down. It is a solid FPS and definitely worth playing.

Borderlands: I just bought the Game of the Year edition today from Target clearance for $9. It is a cell-shaded/diablo-esque FPS, and I am hopelessly addicted to it (been playing it on Onlive).

Mass Effect 1/2: It is a western (Bioware) RPG but it feels more like a 3rd person shooter (especially part 2). Really great series, I can't wait for part 3 next year.

Earth Defense Force 2017: Silly Japanese monster game, but it can be very strategic on the higher difficulty. You will have a great time co-op with your kids. I am not crazy about the recently released sequel (Insect Armaggedon), but if you can get it cheap, it is still worth a playthrough.

Bioshock 1/2: Must play. I thought 2 is even better than the first.

Batman Arkham Asylum: Best superhero movie game ever.

Bayonetta: Really really crazy Devil May Cry action game starring a witch... really one of the best action games this generation.

Vanquish: Same developer as Bayonetta, a Japanese take on the Gears of War formula. Short but sweet.

Oh yeah, one more. Need for Speed Hot Pursuit. It is super.

Rainbow Six 3: A full room of DSP'ers, countdown to match start, our team all gathered in office, PK in the corner giggling like a girl, tossing a grenade into the middle of his teammates...the single largest teamkill in history... :D

I damn near pulled the trigger on a used copy of R6: Vegas 2 on Friday at Gamestop. But I thought of the dollar signs ringing like slot machine reels since I started this Xbox 360 orgy early Black Friday morning, and restraint won out.

Still, I'm sure I'll grab some used Rainbow Six games.

I very much appreciate everyone's suggestions. Keep them coming! :)

Hi PK, Welcome aboard!
pk500 wrote: But I'm just not enjoying the driving experience in Forza. There's a good chance that I'll ditch Forza and just get fun, arcadish racing games like Need For Speed, Burnout, PGR 4 and DIRT 3, and stick to iRacing to satisfy my sim racing jones.
If you do go this route, listen to the current DSP Forza leader, particularly his last call:
GB_Simo wrote:Midnight Club, Indy Evolution, Split/Second and Dirt 2 are all great shouts for racing games, mate. You'll probably be able to get a copy of PGR4 for about a penny now too. Race Pro (though you've effectively played that on PC already) is worth looking up, as is Flatout: Ultimate Carnage if you're after something a little different. Brilliant little game, that one.
Flatout: Ultimate Carnage is easily the most under-appreciated arcade racer of this generation so far. Might not keep up with the flash factor of some of the others, but the arcade racing is fun and the AI can be challenging. Also has a slew of stupid, and/or stupidly fun minigames! Should be able to grab it really cheap now. Adam and I actually managed a few online multiplayer races with this one too, and they were quite fun!

Not quite on the same level, but Baja:Edge of Control is also a challenging little under-appreciated arcade racer. It's floaty, but demands concentration and skill. IIRC, I think Tcrouch had some fun with this one for a while. Don't grab the other Baja title , though, that one sucks.

Also go get Trials HD on XBLA. Physics based time-chaser, with great friends-based leaderboard tracking. You can see how your friends are doing as you are racing. The very definition of simple to learn, difficult to master, and my favorite "Just one more go" game ever!

PK - I totally get the desire to pick up a whole bunch of cheap-but-great titles for the 360. My only advice would be to not overwhelm your library too early on. What ended up happening to me is that I gathered so many great titles, but didn't have time to really dive deeply into any of them. Over the past few months, I've been trading in some of my good games that I just won't have time to fully explore. Now I'd rather have only 1 or 2 titles going at a time, so that I can completely focus on the experience.

Remember, these cheap titles are only getting cheaper as time passes! Enjoy the new purchase.

Very good advice, dude. I'm really overdosing on demos now. It's like going to the Chinese buffet for lunch, with someone else picking up the tab.

I just can't believe how robust the Xbox 360 ecosystem is compared to the original Xbox. It's fantastic.

Kind of been mentioned before, but PK, for an arcade racer, you simply must play Midnight Club Los Angeles. Platinum Hits edition, brand new, is less than 20 bucks.
