Good points, I'm not sure why he would even consider Florida - unless it's to see what his worth is? I still like to believe he would want to stay/go somewhere he has another shot at a title.Aristo wrote:
If the Cardinals sign him it's because he is more valuable than his on-the-field production. It's a tough call, because St. Louis draws like mad, anyway. But if the Cardinals bean counters think they can make money on him, I have no problem overpaying him. If they decide not to, I can't blame them for that either, as these kinds of deal tend to blow-up in teams' faces. Basically, I trust the guys with the money to make the right decision, and I can live with either.
I have heard conjecture that Pujols may avoid the AL because he does not want to become a DH. He's bull-headed enough to do that, but I have no idea if that is true or not. But my gut is that Pujols is going to give St. Louis every opportunity to match any offers he receives. I can't blame Pujols for taking the biggest paycheck he can find, as this is truly his last shot at mega dollars.
Florida wins titles. They just tear down the team down after doing so. Having Albert to help fill-up a new stadium would be pretty attractive. Plus, Florida has all those great tax laws (or lack of) that these dudes LOVE.MizzouRah wrote:Good points, I'm not sure why he would even consider Florida - unless it's to see what his worth is? They don't get a sniff of that without Carpenter, Motte, Berkman, Freese, the Braves, etc..greggsand wrote:

edit: As a Cards fan, I want Albert back. I really don't care how much they pay him & how long the deal is. I don't write the checks. I read that The Cards made an EXTRA $30 million by making it to the World Series this year. They don't get a sniff of that without him. If they make it back a few more times, his deal pays for itself. If they don't, trade him to the Yankees in 5 years!
The Twins are going to pay Jamie Carroll $7 Million for 2 years. $30 million a year will be a bargain before ya know it!MizzouRah wrote:
I hear what you're saying and I'd love for him to finish out his career in St. Louis, just not for 10 years/$300 million.
In 10 years, he'll be eating off the senior menu at Denny's!greggsand wrote:

I take it back. Uniforms don't look same as they did in the sketches/drawings. The multi-colored logo/emblem kills it for me. passdbdynsty25 wrote:DISGUSTING. All my respect for your opinion Vinny = gone.

Umm...where have you been? I mean, Back to the Future 2 predicted this in the 80s.Lancer wrote:So they're the MIAMI MARLINS now? Not the FLORIDA Marlins? Why the name change? one of the uni's look like it's the dolphins.
Excellent!tjung0831 wrote:Apparently the Cardinals are set to announce that Mike Matheny will be their new manager. Press conference rumored to be tomorrow or Monday.
Booooo! This is the cardinals, not an on-the-job training facility. I like Matheny as a player, but I'd rather not burn a couple years hoping he can manage in the majors. Let him go cut his teeth on the some other club like the royals or Indians or something.MizzouRah wrote:Excellent!tjung0831 wrote:Apparently the Cardinals are set to announce that Mike Matheny will be their new manager. Wow. Super happy for Mike.MizzouRah wrote:Excellent!tjung0831 wrote:Apparently the Cardinals are set to announce that Mike Matheny will be their new manager. Press conference rumored to be tomorrow or Monday.
Fair enough.. but give me some names of better canidates.greggsand wrote:

It took me a while to get there, but I'm now on-board with Francona. He's WON, he's dealt with the media, ego's, "big $$ contract" guys, a die-hard fan base, and isn't a complete chap-ass. PLUS, after the way Boston treated him on his way out, you know he'd love nothing more than to win & stick it to them.MizzouRah wrote:Fair enough.. but give me some names of better canidates.greggsand wrote:

That's why he'd be a great fit. The Cardinals have a rich history of boozin'..MizzouRah wrote:Isn't Francona the manger who lets his players drink in the dugout during games?
Mattheny will be a good mananger, give him a chance.

I'm willing to give him a chance, but I won't hesitate to drop a 'told ya so' if he turns out to be a disaster.
How much would you be willing bet on that? It's been a part of baseball forever. It was only an issue because the Red Sox management was looking to save their own @ss.MizzouRah wrote:.. not in the dugout..greggsand wrote:
