Yep. Didn't realize that was his dad's call from 1991 until I read it this morning at USAToday.com. Very cool. Thanks.TheGamer2 wrote:Nice tribute to his dad.pk500 wrote:Loved Joe Buck's call on the game-winning tater: "Freese hits it to deep center ... we'll see you tomorrow night."

Re: MLB Season 2011
An unbelievable game. Two times the Rangers were a strike away from the WS. A pitch away. Must be hard to be a Texas fan this morning. Feliz doesn't blow saves very often and it happened. While I don't count them out for tonight, mentally they must be drowned. Whether you're a baseball fan or not, last night was one of those games where competition was at its best. All the drama, momentum changes. It all comes down to game 7. Great series.
Re: MLB Season 2011
I just saw the highlights, but I can't believe the RF slowed up at the wall and let that ball fall. How do you not go all out to make the last out of the WS?!
You'd think that will be devastating to the Ranger tonight, but who knows at this point.

Re: MLB Season 2011
Lineups for tonight's Game 7.
1. Ryan Theriot, 2B
2. Allen Craig, LF
3. Albert Pujols, 1B
4. Lance Berkman, RF
5. David Freese, 3B
6. Yadier Molina, C
7. Rafael Furcal, SS
8. Skip Schumaker, CF
9. Chris Carpenter, P
1. Ian Kinsler, 2B
2. Elvis Andrus, SS
3. Josh Hamilton, CF
4. Michael Young, 1B
5. Adrian Beltre, 3B
6. Nelson Cruz, RF
7. Mike Napoli, C
8. David Murphy, LF
9. Matt Harrison, P
I like Theriot in the lead-off as Furcal has been struggling a bit. Defensively, Theriot is pretty weak compared to Punto, but Punto has looked terrible at the plate. No Holliday as he is hurt. Adron Chambers is replacing him on the roster.

Re: MLB Season 2011
I like that lineup quite a bit too, especially with Skip in CF.
I hope Carpenter is ready - which we all know he will be.
Can't wait!!!

Re: MLB Season 2011
I think the Cards will score first tonight but Rangers will win game 7.
Re: MLB Season 2011
Feel sorry for Texas but the Cards earned it all year. Each games since Sept has been a game 7. I have to f'n work tonight and can't catch the game unless it goes into extras, but i'm already calling a Cards WS win before the game even starts. They'll have to resign Puljos now.

Re: MLB Season 2011
All year? The Cards were mediocre all year. They just turned it on and won games in September when it counted. So they are the hottest team going into the playoffs...which coincidentally helps them win the series (see Giants, San Francisco for the latest example of momentum). So they clearly didn't earn it all year...they just are earning it when it counts.Lancer wrote:Feel sorry for Texas but the Cards earned it all year. Each games since Sept has been a game 7.
Re: MLB Season 2011
Well put. They are definitely earning it now but not all year. Their last World Series Championship was in an 83 win season (2006) as the wildcard.dbdynsty25 wrote:All year? Just another national league championship. Gotta love it. Congrats cards fans.
Re: MLB Season 2011
Thanks!!!
What a feeling watching those guys, those who were lucky enough to be there tonight!
Texas is one hell of a team though, hats off to them!

Re: MLB Season 2011
Grats to all Cards fans. Carpenter did his thing, great catch by Craig in the 6th. Rangers, you just can't walk so many batters on game 7.
Re: MLB Season 2011
Who won MVP?
Didn't see the game but thought Texas should have started Holland. What a gut wrenching way to lose the ws being one strike and catch away last night. Texas might not get back for a while.
You're right about SF last year too. They got hot around the same time the cards did this year. Guess it's only worth watching baseball sept on.

D. Freese. Dude had his share of misfortunes and injuries. Each time he came back batter than before.Lancer wrote:Who won MVP?
Re: MLB Season 2011
To be fair, The Cards went through a TON of injuries this year. Craig, Freese, Holiday, and Punto were all on the DL for extended periods. They had to rebuild their bullpen and find a SS that could field. They were are FAR better team than their record indicated by the time they made it to September.Lancer wrote:Who won MVP?

it was a run for the ages, but it was a seriously good team after they added pieces and got healthy. I thought Philly was the best team they faced, and much better than the Cards. But I think they were a lot better than Milwaukee, and pretty even with Texas.

Re: MLB Season 2011
A few years ago when Jim Tracy was still managing the Dodgers, La Russa told him 'don't worry about the regular season. just find a way to get in no matter how. then it's a whole new season.' The dodgers flopped in, and made it to the NLCS. Tracy often referenced that conversation that year. I think Tony is absolutely right. It could be ugly, lucky, or even disappointing, but once you're in to the post season, you forget how you got there & just play like it was day 1. I'll miss La Russa if he bails.

Re: MLB Season 2011
Not sure how you come to that conclusion....they lost Cliff Lee right after the WS and everyone thought they would not even make the playoffs this year....they aren't looking to lose anyone off the current team, but it does seem they need some relief pitching.....Lancer wrote:Texas might not get back for a while.
Re: MLB Season 2011
Congrats to the Cards and their fans. Winning a team championship, especially in baseball, is so much harder than most think. Those guys have been in a war since April. I can only imagine the sense of accomplishment they are feeling.
Freese is one hell of a player. The playoffs were the first time I got a chance to see him play on a regular basis. The clutch double he hit with two strikes and the series on the line told me a HELL of a lot about him as a hitter. Impressive. Cards fans should be jacked about having that dude in the organization. Now they just have to hold onto Albert. Just think if they had a healthy Wainwright
On a sad, personal note...my Phils have lost to the eventual World Champions in each of the last three years...two of those three years being the favorite. Oh well. At least they were there for the opportunity.
