MLB Season 2011
Well, looks like the Cardinals season is over before it even starts. Wainwright has a significant elbow injury, most likely requiring Tommy John surgery.

That's a depressing MLB 2011 inaugural post...wow.
Then next year they'll be without Pujols...looks like you've got a long couple of years ahead of you in Cardinal land.

Fortunately, the division is weaker compared to others, but it doesn't dismiss the point that the Cards will be at a definite disadvantage when it comes to your number 1 and 2 starters. Carpenter is still around, but he showed signs last year of diminishing skills.
Re: MLB Season 2011
What shitty news, and ST hasn't even started yet. Hopefully Duncan can get Ian Snell pitching well again, or one of the younger guys in the system steps it up.
Re: MLB Season 2011
Heard that this morning.. baseball has some crazy ass injuries. I mean off all season and then BOOM spring training starts and we are going to lose him for the next year.sportdan30 wrote:Well, looks like the Cardinals season is over before it even starts. Re: MLB Season 2011
Well since the recent Braves have had way more TJ surgeries than I'd like to think about, I'm pretty qualified to tell you that it's going to be at least a year and a half before Wainright is right again. It's just brutal. At the year mark, they can pitch, but they just aren't the same for another six months or so. So be prepared for that.MizzouRah wrote:Heard that this morning.. baseball has some crazy ass injuries. That's what I'm afraid of.. I still believe that one day, good pitchers will get TJ surgery right after they are drafted to save time in the long run.dbdynsty25 wrote:Well since the recent Braves have had way more TJ surgeries than I'd like to think about, I'm pretty qualified to tell you that it's going to be at least a year and a half before Wainright is right again. I can just see the Tribe's front office drooling over this news today. I'm sure they've already contacted the Cardinals about taking Fausto Carmona and his salary off our hands. Heck, it would only cost the Cards a couple of "prospects".

Re: MLB Season 2011
Hey Carmona has been great for my ootp team.

It's gonna be a special year for the Mets...

if you mean 'special', as in context of special olympics. Then yesjLp vAkEr0 wrote:It's gonna be a special year for the Mets...

Dan: as a cards fan, what is the view the cards fans in general (and yourself) have of Willie McGee as a player?sportdan30 wrote:Fortunately, the division is weaker compared to others, but it doesn't dismiss the point that the Cards will be at a definite disadvantage when it comes to your number 1 and 2 starters. They should retire #51, he was a great player and a great person.vinny-b wrote:Dan: as a cards fan, what is the view the cards fans in general (and yourself) have of Willie McGee as a player?sportdan30 wrote:Fortunately, the division is weaker compared to others, but it doesn't dismiss the point that the Cards will be at a definite disadvantage when it comes to your number 1 and 2 starters. News that MLB loaned or gave money to the Mets. Don't know if this is old news but that club is just one sad organization. Sorry Mets fans.

Re: MLB Season 2011
ok, Miz. Didn't know it weren't retired.MizzouRah wrote:They should retire #51, he was a great player and a great person.vinny-b wrote:Dan: as a cards fan, what is the view the cards fans in general (and yourself) have of Willie McGee as a player?sportdan30 wrote:Fortunately, the division is weaker compared to others, but it doesn't dismiss the point that the Cards will be at a definite disadvantage when it comes to your number 1 and 2 starters. did wonder what their view was, cuz a while back had checked his statistics. It may be sacrilege (or lack of baseball intellect), however i were trying to debate his case for the HOF.
as a Brewers fan in the 1980+ decade, i didn't like the Cardinals. And didn't like the fact Willie McGee constructed a clinic in a 1982 WS game (as a rookie).
these St. Louis teams maintain a pertinent place in baseball history. Speed and defense. Coleman, Ozzie Smith, McGee, etc

Re: MLB Season 2011
As a Cardinal fan growing up in the 80s and 90s, there was an instant love affair with players such as Ozzie, Tommy Herr, Willie McGee, Vince Coleman, Jack Clark, etc. more so than there is today in my view. Willie was that "awww schucks" shy type of individual who didn't want the attention. He just wanted to go out and play. Fortunately for us, his exploits on the field in 1982 propelled him to be a fan favorite. Not to mention, he was a pretty darn good hitter over his career and of course, excellent in the field. I think his popularity hit all new heights when he returned to the Cardinals years later after playing for a few different teams. Cards fans, like most fans relish the past and seeing Willie back in a Cardinal uniform was awesome. His number should definitely be retired and I'd bet you couldn't find one true Cardinal fan who wouldn't disagree with that statement.

far as WM, his skills were Rickey Henderson-lite. Except with less walks, but much better defense/fielding. Take him to be my CF for 10 years, and not look back

I am probably cancelling cable this summer and was looking into mlb.tv options. Has anyone tried this? Do they still do condensed games through that?
Re: MLB Season 2011
I just signed up for mlb.tv but haven't cancelled cable - like to watch the Jays live, and local mlb.tv blackouts won't allow me to. I'll mainly use it for surfing games on the iPad, clicking on whichever game my fantasy players are batting/pitching in.Naples39 wrote:I am probably cancelling cable this summer and was looking into mlb.tv options. I'm pretty sure they still have condensed games, so you should be good.

Re: MLB Season 2011
Now that Apple TV has added MLB.TV, I'm thinking of dumping Extra Innings on DTV & just watching the games on apple tv. the main advantage being Extra Innings only shows the Fox Sports feeds so some Sunday games (on local stations) aren't shown. Does MLB.tv get around the whole Saturday "Fox Game of the Day" crap?Naples39 wrote:I am probably cancelling cable this summer and was looking into mlb.tv options. Has anyone tried this? NOPE...and it pisses me off. It has the same restrictions that Extra Innings has.greggsand wrote:Now that Apple TV has added MLB.TV, I'm thinking of dumping Extra Innings on DTV & just watching the games on apple tv. the main advantage being Extra Innings only shows the Fox Sports feeds so some Sunday games (on local stations) aren't shown. Re: MLB Season 2011
Interesting article on this exact topic. I might go the MBL.tv route & drop Extra Innings off DTV. With MLB.tv, you'd get access via appltv, mlb.com, ipad & iphone. not bad for $129 (about same price as extra innings)...

It'd be nice if mlb would give you trial pass for the spring training games just to see how smooth it runs over appletv. I'm scared to drop Extra Innings just find out the streaming is a pain.

Re: MLB Season 2011
I ask this every year, and every year it's usually met with the sound of crickets, but here I go again... Anybody else going to Opening Day this year? I'm PUMPED!!! I can't wait for Friday!!! It's one of my favorite days of the year!
Hard to believe it's the 18th Opening Day at the Tribe's "new" ballpark. I haven't missed one yet. Forecast is for around 40 degrees, chance of snow/rain. Oh well. Heck, it wouldn't feel like Opening Day if we weren't all bundled up like a Browns game. GO TRIBE!!!!!!!
