Enclosed spaces + ease of hiding + lag + quick deaths =/= fun. For me at least. It's the combination more than any one thing on its own.

But it's one map. Of at least nine. And it's a beta. Of a build that is 6-8 weeks old. If you've ever enjoyed Battlefield, I'm certain this one will be no different. I played BC and BC2 to death. Had a ball doing it. That they are offering some smaller maps along with the enormous ones is a good thing, in my opinion. If we are talking of small maps, though, CoD is all about such. I like CoD, but it can be a friggin' ADHD-with-a-Red Bull-chaser experience, more times than not, and when I'm wanting a military experience, that's not what I want.

I think people tend to forget that it was a beta, not a demo, too. Based upon that preview I just posted, I think some of the concerns aren't terribly warranted. DICE knows what it's doing. They added the Rush mode to the classic Battlefield series. Rush wouldn't work on those humongous maps. Yes, it worked in BC, but BC's maps aren't as large as BF3's are, from what I've seen. I really enjoyed Metro, but I'm looking very forward to the big, sprawling maps, and, again, according to what I'm reading, we have nothing to worry about. Now, if you've NEVER liked a BF game as much as CoD, then I understand... :D

I don't think we're disagreeing here. I've said a few times I don't think the beta on metro is representative of the full game, but taken independently I personally don't think the beta is very fun.

I still don't buy the COD comparisons though. The weapons, the auto-aim, the map layouts (much more important than the size), the perks, the spawning, the killstreaks....COD and BF is apples and oranges to me and I look at the games as almost separate genres.

Probably, Marc. One thing's for certain: They are two very different types of game; however, the comparisons are there, whether they are warranted or not. Personally, I don't really think they are, either, but they're gunning for each other, regardless. MoH and CoD were better comparisons, and I loved MoH. So you're right, really: I just played the beta from a beta perspective, and hoped to help them fix some of the issues, which apparently the glaring ones have been fixed.

But I must say, everyone owes it to themselves to watch at least the first video in that link I posted. Holy cow.

Sorry...I didn't see this post Teal. I played it on Saturday for the last time. I enjoyed the beta even though I got tired of the map. It's obviously an older version so I have confidence the final version will be super. Leveling up in the beta made things a lot more fun. Oh, and there are these things called vehicles in he full version :) Can't wait for the full version.

I've been sitting here for like 5 minutes just thinking about how I cannot wait for this freakin game to come out. Haven't felt like that in a LONG time. That is all.

There's some reveals of the MP maps here;
http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/battlef ... eveal.aspx
http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/battlef ... rt-ii.aspx
DESIGN THOUGHTS: One of our largest and most vehicle-friendly map, Operation Firestorm is the classic Battlefield gameplay taken to the extremes. Size-wise, and with some puzzle skills, you could actually place three Atacama Deserts -- one of the largest maps from Battlefield: Bad Company 2 -- within the playable area of Operation Firestorm.
DESIGN THOUGHTS: Damavand Peak, internally known as Base Jump, is built on the idea that we want players to be able to base jump, and features our most extreme height differences ever in a Battlefield map.
DESIGN THOUGHTS> We knew we wanted to do something very urban in the city center of Tehran. The fiction has you coming in two weeks after fighting started, so the tight and narrowly built city has a great deal of destruction already when you spawn into the game. Grand Bazaar is a classically mirrored map where both sides have very similar pathways, sideways, and possibilities to traverse heights to get a better view of the action. It’s a very short range close quarter combat map where shotguns tend to be favored.
It's interesting that there are a few maps like Metro, which are purely close combat infantry maps, and then there are others which are wide open.

Sort of BF3 related...I went into BC2 last night and played some conquest for the first time in a LONG time and had a friggin blast. Been playing team deathmatch so much that I just kinda forgot about conquest. Just got me more excited for BF3.

As much as I try other modes in the BF series, I keep going back to 'Rush'. Team Deathmatch huh? I think I have played that mode like twice.

I play a lot of rush but just not a lot of conquest. Team DM is quick easy and a time killer. I'll be playing conquest like crazy until the 25th. That mode in Bf3 should be incredible :)

I was just watching a BF3 vid on YouTube and picked up a little tidbit of info. Supposedly the 360 version of the game has 2 discs...one for single player, one for multiplayer. Supposedly the MP disc has an OPTIONAL texture pack on it that makes the game look better than what we have been seeing streamed in online videos. I guess its a no brainer if you have space on your HD. Kinda makes sense IF IT'S TRUE. Take it for what it's worth.

Update - Link http://xboxfreedom.com/battlefield-3-op ... ture-pack/
The multiplayer disc will contain the texture pack which Xbox 360 owners will be able to install onto their consoles to receive a notable graphics boost.
The team at DICE claim that once installed, Battlefield 3 will easily be the best looking game on the console, which is a nice boast considering we’ve seen some absolutely gorgeous games lately such as Rage and Gears of War 3.
:) :D.

I actually prefer Conquest over Rush as it`s not as frustrating if you`re saddled with a crap team.

I think that `rumor`about the 2nd Disc on the 360 version is legit - heard a few podcasts mention it.

I'm very much up in the air about this one. I found the last Battlefield to just feel unacceptably clunky with its frame rate and with how the weapons handled, and it certainly doesn't sound like this is going to be improved in BF3. The gunplay in CoD is tremendously smooth, and that's ultimately what makes that game satisfying, not the running around. (Although to be perfectly honest, playing Halo in Swat mode is a smoother, better experience than either.)

When you say the last Battlefield do you mean Battlefield 2? I wouldn't compare that to Bf3. Battlefield Bad Company 2 is the most recent Battlefield game and its a hell of a game...much smoother than BF2. I do agree the gunplay is super smooth in COD. One of its strong points.

I'm looking forward to both games this year. I passed on Black Ops so it's been a while since I've played COD. MW3's single player has me intrigued. They always do a great job with SP.

I absolutely am stoked for BF3. I'll wind up getting MW3 at some point, too, probably, but this is my MP shooter of choice for military shooters this year. This, Forza 4, Batman, Skyrim...if I add anything else before the end of the year, I'll need to hire someone to play some of 'em...lol.

Been there for about a month now :D. The info I posted above (texture pack) has me really excited. Very bold statement by Dice stating it will easily be the best looking game on the 360. Gears 3 is a friggin' beautiful game as are several others. If BF3 even approaches them ill be juiced.

I'm ready this sucker to come out. I've been reading about it and watching videos and whatnot...blah blah blah.

One interesting thing that was going around yesterday was showing up on radar when using an unsilenced weapon, COD-style. I think that's what they are doing, where firing makes you show up as a spot, though it's not a continuous tracking like after being spotted.

I actually like that change---provides more reward to using a silencer and I feel less clueless running around the battlefield having no idea where fire is coming from.

God damn I wish I didn't suck to the point where games like this lose their fun so quickly for me because I'm always something like 2 kills to 50 deaths. It looks pretty awesome.

The destructible environments have me sucked in. The level of mayhem looks incredible. I played a lot of MW1, 2, and BO online, and while I enjoyed those a lot, I'm looking forward to trying something a little different.
