I think you will be missing out by not playing the console version.

I got an early invitation for the PS3, but I can't find the beta anywhere. Anyone? On the email it also states that I can have access from the 29th on the 360.

Had that problem once, and not since then, Hogz. But I will say this: After playing GoW3, Battlefield ain't the prettiest girl at the dance (not the ugliest by any stretch, either!), but she sure puts out. Wow. What a blast this is gonna be. There are no vehicles on the map we play, but damn, that's the biggest MP map I've ever seen for a game of this type! And considering how much is going on, how many buildings are enterable (multi-floor), the foilage, the level of destruction, it's a great looking game. And unlike CoD, it feels like war, not like Halo with real guns. I got really proficient with the shotgun, taking out about 16 dudes in the course of one match.

Anyone with any history with the BF:BC series will feel right at home with the gametypes, but the expansiveness of this relatively small level (compared to those with vehicles) really gives you lots of options. Actually, I'm so stoked because of the feeling it gave me after about 5 minutes: it felt like the Ghost Recon we all loved. Yep. I laid down on a rock outcropping and took down about 5 or 6 dudes from long range with the sniper rifle, and they never saw me. Awesome.

This is gonna be some fun, fellas. I can see this one being a DSP staple like the GR days of old... :D

How did you get the code exactly? I bought MoH but just traded it in for Gears. Does that matter?

If you bought the 'special edition', you should have an invite with a code in your email. That's where mine was. Special edition was just the preorder edition.

No, it was in my email inbox this morning. Like, regular email. If you preordered MoH, you got the special edition. Anyway, checking your email will be the tale of the tape.

Quick PC Impressions:

OHMIGODTHISGAMELOOKSAMAZING

Also, this game launches from my browser - yes, my browser. It's kinda strange - the interface for setting up your matches, load-outs and profile are in firefox (it's active in the other tab right now). Ditto for server browsing, you select a server via your browser and then it launches. If the server is full and you're waiting you can just surf the net.

I played a few hours of Bad Company 2 on the PC to get used to keyboard/mouse but even then I'm finding this much more unforgiving - 1 or 2 shots and you're toast. I'm not sure I'm down with that. Teal - is that the same for the 360 version?

Wow...Recon? Really? If so I am incredibly pumped. I loved Recon. On the original Xbox is a was a ton of fun.

I'm getting the feeling this game just might kick MW3's ass.

Yeah. Maybe a little bit faster than Recon, but the 'feel' is very much there. One shot kills to the head, shotguns kill with one shot at a range of about 6 feet or less. It's really good.

Hope that, this being a beta and all, they take some suggestions and do some cleanup. The framerate got really low in one match, and there's some flickering in the distance with the sniper scope. The flickering isn't a big deal, but that one match bogging down was pretty unplayable. However, I've played a dozen or more matches, and hadn't seen it before, so it might just be an anomaly.

Also, I wish we could beta test a map with vehicles. Especially jets. That would rock.

I keep telling myself it's a beta.. it's a beta. The retail version will rock...

I played a few rounds this morning and truth be told.. I was not impressed. Anyone else feel this way? Sure, the connection wasn't all that great AND it's a beta, but little things like the load out screen seem to have taken a big step backwards. The menu looked like something from last generation and the graphics themselves didn't seem to look as good as BF:BC2. I cant help but wonder what the ramifications are for designing a game for PC and stripping it down to a console friendly version.

I am feeling pretty underwhelmed, but we'll see.

I would definitely say the graphics are better than BC2, just not like the crazy trailers showing the PC version. That's not really a big deal to me though.

Right now I'm just chalking it up to a really weak map. The first checkpoints are okay, having some room to operate, but the later checkpoints are basically just nondescript corridor shooting. The gameplay in there is very forgetable, and lacking everything that makes a game identifiable as a battlefield game.

Having to lock more stuff may also be a factor, but there's no vehicles, no room to flank or for the action to spread out, no point to spotting or other team work because everyone is so jammed in, no medkit to revive with.....playing on this map the game feels and looks much closer to Medal of Honor than BC2.

Gonna give it some more time (couldn't connect to EA servers when I tried again around 4), but I was off from work today and after 4 rounds this morning I was conspicuously lacking the one more round feeling, and played NHL when gaming tne rest of the day.

Well, for my part, yeah, there's some graphical hitches I hope are remedied, like insane flickering through the sniper scope, some weird 'stuck' animations with dudes sliding up the walls, weapons sliding across the floor, etc. This has to be from an earlier build, I'd wager. Menus never really meant anything to me, so that's no big deal either way. But I actually like that this Battlefield isn't just going to be about humongous maps with vehicles everywhere. Sure, I'd love to see the maps with the jets, helicopters, humvees, and all that-but I'll get to see them soon enough. This small map was probably the easiest to throw together for a beta, and let's be honest: it's not exactly a beta for much else than to clean up a couple things, and make sure the servers hold up. That being said, the core gameplay is something I really like. I loved MoH, and felt that it never got the respect it deserved, so I'm glad they're throwing a few smaller maps into the fray.

Marc, there ARE medkits, and they do heal you. Also, after you level up a few times, the assault/med class gets a defibrillator, too, to revive fallen teammates. Ultimately, this is one that I'm gonna definitely want to play with a team of friends/DSP'ers. Communication is just so much fun with this type of game.
