What's really great, is that he hasn't changed his patient approach at the plate. He's still hitting bombs (8 and counting), but has drawn 21 walks (vs. 15 K's) for a .517 OBP.
Holy crap I can't believe how mismanaged the Mets are in the FO. They are in debt for around $635 million and they owe Bobby Bonilla $1.2 million for the next 25 years. The guy retired in 1996, ouch
I wonder if they'll file for bankruptcy, can't see new prospective owners willing to pickup the tab on all that debt.
Jays get back to .500 after a nice win in NY against the Yankees. Good solid pitching by Romero who was lucky to have the glove just in time to save his kisser after a line drive while Bautista cranked another HR. Too bad A. Hill will be out for a bit.
Jose Bautista rocks. He's the reason Jays are right there in the fight behind the Yankees. Another dinger tonight leading the league in homers. If only he was healthier early too.
Speaking about the Yanks, it'll be interesting to see how Jorge Posada and Girardi will get along.
Sorry, but I just have to do a little bragging about Asdrubal Cabrera. Man, the dude is ON FIRE!!!
A few days ago he turns in what is possibly the defensive play of the year, that barehanded behind-the-back toss off the deflected ball to start the DP. Then yesterday he goes five-for-five with two dingers!!! I can't believe they kept pitching to him.
He's been having a great year all along, but wow, I don't know what's gotten in to him lately!!!
Has anyone read the candid Wilpon comments from Toobin's New Yorker article? One of the most depressing, bone-headed moves... his comments had some grain of truth to them, but totally inappropriate for him to make public. I just don't understand what he was thinking. These guys cannot be expelled from ownership fast enough.
Skimmed through that article. Sounds like he's got nothing to lose at this point, potentially being on the hook for a billion dollars.
He must not be planning to re-sign any of those players. Certainly those players haven't made the Mets winners.
There's been talk that the Giants, who really need a shortstop, would at least look into renting Reyes. But $20 million a year and several years is what he's looking for?
Given the contracts that the NY teams have given out, maybe you can't blame him for trying.
The wife and I are getting ready to embark on a 5 game - 8 day baseball trip which will complete 1 item on the bucket list of having seen a ball game in every major league city. Starts Wed nite with Det @ Tex. Thurs in Houston with Astros vs St L. Fri & Sat in Denver with Col vs the Dodgers, and a Tues matchup in the desert with the Giants v D'Backs for the division lead. The only parks not visited would be Petco and Target (and as of next year Miami's new park, but we are only 3 hrs away from there) as we visited those cities when SD & Minn were in J. Murphy and the Metro Dome at the time of our visit. Gives me an excuse to go back

That is awesome and something I just told my dad the other night.. I want to visit the rest of the baseball ballparks we have yet been able to attend a game at.
Let us know what your impressions are if you have time!
Not often you can score 3 homers on C. Lee, let alone in the same inning but the Jays just did that coming back from behind and avoiding a sweep at the hands of PHI.
Congrats to Jose Bautista for getting over 7.5 million votes for the AS game. Surprised that Jeter would be the starter in 2nd base instead of Cabrera who had a much better season in the AL.
Jose Bautista reminds me a bit of Eric Davis with his bat speed. I hope he's legit - his career numbers look a lot like those of Brady Anderson, Luis Gonzalez, and Steve Finley.

I think you hit the nail on the head..."bat speed". This is the key to his success. Once he learned to start his swing earlier, his power just blossomed. I don't worry about the legitimacy so much because his body never changed - still 190 lbs. When you watch him, you don't get overwhelmed by his raw power, but more his great mechanics and ability to turn and destroy any mistake in the zone.

I was at the Halladay game on Saturday and had my heart broken by the bullpen, so it was nice to see them bounce back. Eric Thames is looking great too...keep him in that 2 spot for sure, and he's going to keep whacking a bunch of good pitches.
Thoughts and prayers to the Texas fan who fell to his death trying to catch a ball thrown from Josh Hamilton. Really really sad. The man's young son unfortunately was there and saw the incident.

Just awful how he died and especially that his son witnessed the fall.
Terrible story but I have to say i am shocked it doesn't happen more. They way people go after foul balls, home runs etc I'm just amazed people want a baseball that much.

I think people get caught up in the moment and don't think about it. He was trying to grab a ball for his kid.
What I'm a bit more surprised at is that there aren't more safety features around the parks. For the first time ever, I had a front row set at second level at Wrigley, and I remember being surprised that there wasn't a whole lot to keep you from falling other than the railing. Couldn't you have a ledge that extended a few feet past the railings in the upper decks? Or why leave the gap between the railing and the scoreboard uncovered at the Rangers stadium?

Typical buiding codes require a minimum of 42" on commercial venues for guardrail heights, but when stadium / mezzanine / balcony seating comes into play the heights change due to the fact someone is sitting for the most part watching an event, and a 42" high railing blocks the view. As far as putting a ledge on the other side, that's just inviting someone to climb over that and thus what is called an attractive nuisance,,for instance if you leave a ladder up on the side of your home, and the kid across the street climbs up it,then falls off and breaks his neck...guess what? ...your liable . (Might want to hire Rob in that case ) i.e. take the ladder down.
Bottom line, and this is not to minimize the tragedy that occurred, but the building code can only protect the public from themselves so much...at some point you gotta take responsibility for your own actions....again its a terrible loss, but is was an accident. The building is not to blame.
I've seen a guy fall about 25 feet from an upper deck to the level below at a baseball game. He was drunk and wasn't going for a ball, just being stupid. Thankfully he was just scraped up and must have hit the seats just right. I think it's easy for people to lose track of basic physics when they get caught up in the moment. Hamilton was the kid's favorite player and the dad was excited to be getting a ball for his son from his hero. The whole thing just really sucks.
