Re: MLB 2K11 info coming tomorrow
I'm pretty sure the view can be changed, they had a lot of camera views in last years game. There is one view that is the same as what THE SHOW has. I used that view last year but I do like this view because it feels you can time the pitch better. I think this view was also in last years game but it was a bit farther out.
I played mainly using power swing last year, but when I did use contact, I think I did get some HRs but not too many.

Yeah...basically. I don't want to get into my full impressions because dudes like this game and that's cool and all, so carry on. I'll rent it to check it out cuz it isn't the turd it used to be. So there is that.sportdan30 wrote:Overall, it's a big step up from last year, and it's inching closer to becoming an enjoyable baseball game. It's a sure fire rental for me which is a good sign.

Some of the players faces still look freaky.

Re: MLB 2K11 info coming tomorrow
If you want to get a realistic amoutn of extra base hits, you need to use the power swing, which is moving back on the stick and then forward. Contact (only going forward) will get better contact, but the hits will be weaker. At least that's how it worked last year.RallyMonkey wrote:Question to those of you who played last year's game. In about 10 games with the demo the contact swing hasn't generated more than one or two extra base hits or what i would deem "hard outs". Is the power swing the only way to generate HR's or deep shots in this game? It's really my only issue with the game right now but a 30 inning sample size from a demo isn't really a fair way to judge which is why i'm asking. In The Show i never used the power swing and had solid HR, Double and Triple totals so i'd much rather only use the power swing here when the situation calls...3-1 counts with the right batter, bases loaded with 2-0 count. Those types of situations when i know the pitcher has to groove one.

Re: MLB 2K11 info coming tomorrow
Only got in 1 game with the demo last night. Between now and next week I'm sure I'll have changed my mnid about which game to get 100 times. My head tells me Show, but my heart is telling me 2k11.
I am glad that they seemed to have addressed the main complaints about the game. I already hit a sky-high popup to the pitcher with Hamilton. That never happened last year.

There's definitely a lot to like about the game. But no practice swings? Man, that drives me nuts. It's such a small thing, but something I like to do a couple of times before each pitch. Hope 2k adds them one of these years.

Re: MLB 2K11 info coming tomorrow
So after about 20 games on Pro yesterday (most of which i won) I wanted to see how this game played on Hard and, well, man....it's Hard. In two games i've lost by a combined 14-0. Had four hits total and have had 3 errors where yesterday i maybe had one all day. Pitching is MUCH more difficult as well not only because of location but i feel like the umps are far less forgiving. Could just be my psyche but i was getting squeezed a lot it felt like. Also, as you can tell from my four total hits, batting is also far more difficult for me as what felt like the same swings that created contact yesterday were swing and misses today. On an interesting note....the game became MORE appealing to me after the last two drubbings....
...with one exception. I saw a glaring gameplay glitch that if it makes it to the final build could be game ruining. Bases loaded and 2 outs for the CPU. I get the #9 batter, their pitcher, to hit a grounder to SS. Ball has plenty of speed on it and the pitcher is running so no rush at all to make the throw. I load up the meter and i'm in the green so no wild throw. The ball sails across the diamond, the runner is barely halfway to first, and my 1B catches the ball but he's standing 5 feet off the bag in the position he was in when the ball was pitched. Basically he is playing his position but never went to the bag after the ball was hit. He catches the ball and makes a goofy lunge toward the runner who is well past first base at this point. Inning continues and the next batter doubles to clear the bases. Thumbs down on that moment but here's hoping it was an oddity.

Rally how were you able to change the settings? On the 360 version the only changeable settings were for the controller.

Rod,
Change your 360 default settings. Go to the guide then move to the Settings blade. Go to Profile>Game Defaults>General and then change the Difficulty setting to Hard. Reboot the demo and you'll be all set

Re: MLB 2K11 info coming tomorrow
Tried the demo last night.....
same old, same old.
Pretty disappointing for me. I couldn't see where the game is any different from last year? Somebody please tell me!
They still have the same sound effects since the first XBox 2K game and the crowd sounds are muffled and the crowd
sounds asleep. They still have that same "yea-aaahh" sound looping in the game that has been there as long as I can
remember. How hard is it to revamp all the sound effects 2K Sports? Once every 5 years would be nice! The outfielder
run like they are in quicksand and there is a lot of slowdown on foul balls. Pressing button through all the cut scenes is
annoying and the pitching and hitting mechanics seem unchanged to me. Wish they would bring back cursor hitting, I hate
this timing only thing. Seems so random where the ball goes up or down.

Re: MLB 2K11 info coming tomorrow
Really Jack? You didn't immediately notice that the fielding is completely different? The camera after you make contact? The feel of the pitching?
While it does look a LOT like 2k10, I'm glad they spent their time addressing the real issues with the game instead of giving us a new look with the same olf problems.
After some more time with the Show's analog controls, I've decided to go with 2k11 this year. It may not be as polished, but it is more fun, and that's what matters most to me.

I was tired and took a quick look before hitting the hay. I will give it another look soon. I did notice the camera stayed with you after a hit, letting you see where the ball was going. Liked that.
The pitching felt largely the same. Same meter system with the gestures. Only thing I noticed was everything on "the black" wasn't always a strike. That's a good change, but what else is diferent about the pitching? Seems as easy as ever to spot pitches where u want them.
The fielding animations seems a little different, but nothing drastic. I did have one bobble and then the throw was late. That was nice. The players move like robots though and the outfielders
are so sluggish.
I guess I was expecting more? Bottom line is, if u didn't like last year's game, I am not sure if this one will win you over.
Re: MLB 2K11 info coming tomorrow
Firstly the demo is on Pro mode, not hard, so that makes pitching easier. They also changed the missed gesture penalties, I believe randomly, so the ball wouldn't go the same places all the time. I may be wrong on this though.
I think the fielding is tons better, and the hitting camera is way better then last year too. I also like that they added the animations back in so folks are just warping from place to place. I am sure they will have a "hurry up" option in the real game.
They have changed how the ball reacts to grass (field turf, astro turf) which I noticed right away.
I see tons of improvements. They aren't hit you over the head ones, but more so gentle jabs in the rib ones.....

Re: MLB 2K11 info coming tomorrow
The pitching is supposed to be more difficult this year. Hard to make much of it from the demo since we can't change any settings or sliders.
Another change is the inclusion of infield popups.
I didn't expect a whole lot to be different. The Show has been pretty much the same for the past 3-5 years. Generally any yearly sports release has been very similar to it's predecessor this generation. I would have liked some updated overlays (and in certain cases photos, as Beltre still has his BoSox hat on), but I'm happy with what was changed. No reason to change things that were working well, like the pitching gestures.

Re: MLB 2K11 info coming tomorrow
I've been playing the demo quite a bit and there is a lot to like.
Camera is excellent, the game seems much more vibrant, always loved the pitching but it feels improved, umps do not always call corner strikes, fielding is great, etc...
It has some goofy animations and I do see framerate slow downs every once in awhile, but the gameplay is fun. This might be an old demo, so they might have had time to improve framerate issues and what not.
With MLB today and dynamic ratings, it might be something I pick up just to play those types of games.

Supposedly it is an old build. The "Walkthrough" videos at Gametrailers look very good.FifaInspected wrote:MizzouRah wrote:I've been playing the demo quite a bit and there is a lot to like.

The videos do look good. I really like all the stats they give you.
Baseball is about stats and The Show misses this. You can get stats if you force yourself to watch cutscenes.
