Re: MLB 2K11 info coming tomorrow
A new developer diary blog detailing the Dynamic Player Ratings system is up. I haven't liked 2k's baseball game for years, but I do like what they're trying to do with this:
"Like many people, our entire design team loves to play MLB Today games. Thanks to the MLB Today feature in MLB 2K10, for the first time, we were participating in the real MLB season with our favorite teams and players, but something still didn’t feel quite right. As last year’s MLB season progressed we quickly came to realize that, while the MLB Today was doing a great job of keeping us up to date with the standings and stats for all the teams and players, the players themselves didn’t really change. We watched last year as June rolled around and Derek Jeter started his epic slump. Jeter’s batting average was down almost 50 points, but when I loaded into a game against the Yankees he was close to the same Derek Jeter that I played against the month before. That’s not what we wanted to see, we wanted to play against the Yankees with Jeter struggling through his slump. That would have been closer to the real MLB Today."

That's sounds great and for me MLB Today is what made 2K10 SO much fun throughout the year. I wish they could implement something like this in the Show.

Re: MLB 2K11 info coming tomorrow
PJ and fielding animations. A match made in heaven. It looks like a great improvement over last year's game in this area. I really like a lot of the reaction shots of players in the field on muffed balls. We'll still have to see it in action to see if it feels and looks as organic as the trailer. But it definitely looks like the game will not suck.
Re: MLB 2K11 info coming tomorrow
Like the trailer, love the PJ and the animations. Look forward to the demo. About the only thing I'm not caring for are the faces, but hopefully I won't notice 'em that much during a game.
Re: MLB 2K11 info coming tomorrow
Awesome, I knew VC would improve on the game. Faces and animations still go to The Show but this game keeps getting better. I can't wait for MLB Today.

Re: MLB 2K11 info coming tomorrow
I just read the latest developer diary over at OS covering pitching and hitting and I am extremely excited for 2K11.
My only gripe is that I wish there wasn't a power and defensive swing.

love the Pearl Jam song on the video!
I am taking a wait and see approach with this one. MLB2K game's are usually almost as
disappointing as the annual TW golf games. They always sound great in Jan/Feb when u read about all the changes or improvements they are making and then the real game comes out and fall flat. Let's hope this one can live up to the hype. Lat time I had fun playing video game baseball was with MVP.

I'm really looking forward to this and believe the franchise has made some decent strides over the last two years.

Re: MLB 2K11 info coming tomorrow
was there any info on the MY PLAYER mode from last year? That's was a great mode but could have used some simple improvements.
I still play last years game but am a bit hesitant about selling it for the new one. I'm still hurt by the Madden 11 'scam' and just re-bought Madden 10 and loving it. I'll wait and see on what the impressions are before getting 2k11. Unless there is a killer sale on the game somewhere opening week, I'll wait and see.

Re: MLB 2K11 info coming tomorrow
Looks like a turd...yet I'll still buy it because it's baseball! Some of those animations and graphics are just bad (see rounding second base and virtually warping back to the bag when the runner decides not to go to third, wow).
Re: MLB 2K11 info coming tomorrow
Thanks GT. The animation looks a little cleaner than last year but still suffers from the stop/start chained animation. Definitely the Show wins hands down in this dept. The audio sounds similar to last year and the year before.
Not complaining but that was the draw for me along with the fun gameplay. I may pickup the Show first and wait for a sale on MLB 2K.

Wow...I really like what I see so far. Thanks for posting.

These guys just can't get animations right. The swing animations are brutal. They are cut off at the end abruptly. It's just one video but it didn't impress me one bit. Show demo tonight. I'm sure it will look like butter compared to that video.

Yeah that's pretty glaring, kinda reminds me of Tony LaRussa baseball back in the mid 90's. I think the big difference in the two animations is that the Show is running at 60FPS and 2K11 is not and probably in order to keep a smooth framerate animations are dropped or cutoff or it could be that the animation artist at 2K just suck.Diablo25 wrote:These guys just can't get animations right. The one that irritated me last year was the pitcher throwing to first and walking back to the mound. It looked like crap.

I'm skipping console baseball this year.. it just does nothing for me anymore.
When it comes to baseball, I'm a text simmer all the way.. can't wait for ootp 12.

Re: MLB 2K11 info coming tomorrow
I was pretty impressed with the video, although I really despise that camera angle for hitting. I feel like I'm viewing the game from the ground. Thankfully, that can be changed.
Seems like way too many pitches in the strike zone though. That seemed to be the case last year as well. Maybe it was just an attempt to show the game in action.
Commentary is indeed awesome and puts The Show to shame, but honestly either you love Gary Thorne or you don't. I'm in the camp that he sounds better broadcasting a hockey game than a baseball game. Not that he's bad by any stretch, but I just tire of his voice rather quickly. Still, the game actually feels alive and exciting.
Animations are better, but nowhere near as smooth as The Show. The players still move a little robotic to me, but not near as bad as the last several years. Lighting looks nice, and for the most part, the player models look decent. Manuel looks freakin' scary as heck though!
I despise 2K's pitching interface, so I hope there's another option. I've already fallen in love with The Show's analog pitching after a few more games. I think they nailed it.
Looking forward to seeing how this game looks and plays on the PS3. It definitely won't be my choice for an authentic baseball gaming experience, but it has the chance to be that change of pace game that's enjoyable to play.

When is the demo dropping on XBL? I checked this morning and it wasn't there.
Re: MLB 2K11 info coming tomorrow
I kind've like the new fielding camera angle -- I'm just not sure I'm going to have time for a second baseball game this year, but I look forward to trying out the new camera angle in the demo.sportdan30 wrote:I was pretty impressed with the video, although I really despise that camera angle for hitting. Those videos are much more promising than the other game play vids. Hope it is the real deal...or at least close to it.
