OT: NBA Season 2009-2010 & Fantasy Hoops Talk

I have to say, I can't believe how little interest in the NBA playoffs there is on this forum. I also belong to a "tennis" forum and there is more discussion there than here!
Anyways, my Hawks get to live another day. After one of the ugliest 1st half's I have ever witnessed, the Hawks finally got their act together for the 2nd half and put away those pesky Bucks. Yes, I will be going to game 7 tommorow in ATL! GO HAWKS!

Two reasons.
1.) The referees decide the game. No other pro sport depends so much on how the refs call the game.
2.) We already know who is going to be in the finals. LA vs Cleveland. What fun is that?
I am a Celtic fan but I will not be watching tonight. Too frustrating. You just don't know what the refs will call each time down the floor.
Just once, though, I would like to see someone knock Lebron on his ass. We need a good ole McHale/Rambis clothesline. But nowadays that would constitute a four game suspension.

Stern will personally come to your house tonight and fine you for this post.Pete wrote:Two reasons.

And it didn't seem to bother many in the 1980s when the Celtics and Lakers were always in the Finals or were at least the heavy favorites. Larry Bird's FTA/min increased in the playoffs as compared to the regular season.wco81 wrote:Of course the Celtics have benefitted from favorable officiating.
Do a Google search including combination of the words "bias", "referees", "NHL", and "Bettman" and tell me there aren't conspiracy theories in that sport.
I can't speak for anyone else, but my interest in the NBA is low right now because: the NHL playoffs are much more interesting to me, I'm following baseball closely because April-July is the only time my favorite team hasn't been mathematically eliminated or 20 games below .500, my favorite basketball team the 76ers were so bad I barely watched any basketball all year.
Not with that crappy coach.JackB1 wrote:ATL WINS!!! We finally dispensed of those upstart Bucks. Mil. is going to be really good next year. Jennings is great and they had 2 starters injured. I was proud of Atlanta today...they built the lead and kept it that way. No 4th qtr collapses today.
Anyone thinks we have a chance vs Orlando?
Well, he was crappy two games ago, right?
He's still crappyPete wrote:Not with that crappy coach.JackB1 wrote:ATL WINS!!! We finally dispensed of those upstart Bucks. Mil. is going to be really good next year. But......how many quality coaches are actually available? exactly.
In all of your frustration with the NBA, it's obvious you haven't been watching. LeBron takes more of a physical pounding than anyone in the league. It's amazing he doesn't spend more time on the DL. He's always at or near the top of the league in FT attempts, and-ones, and minutes played.Pete wrote:Just once, though, I would like to see someone knock Lebron on his ass. Of course, I suppose all of those FT attempts are just because he's a superstar who always gets the calls.

Yeah, that would suck.WillHunting wrote:Pete wrote:

This coming from a Celtic fan is funny. The past few years the usual complaint has been, "The NBA's doing whatever it can to make sure it's a Celtics/Lakers Finals, just for TV ratings."
Lebron is a great talent, but to me, comes off like a arrogant show off and hot dog. The dancing and carrying on when they are beating another team down is classless IMO. He needs to taste some defeat and know how it feels to to have someone else carryone on while you are feeling lower than low.lexbur wrote:It's cool how LeBron always makes it a point to go back to Akron to accept his MVP award. Hopefully this becomes an annual event down there, like the Soap Box Derby and the invitational at Firestone.![]()
Lebron?....not a fan.

I watched my first NBA game of year Friday night. Even with the Bucks in a game 7, I didn't bother watching Sunday. It's Spring. I'd rather be outside than inside watching an indoor sport on TV. Maybe I'll tune in again in 6 weeks when the finals start.JackB1 wrote:I have to say, I can't believe how little interest in the NBA playoffs there is on this forum. Not to hate on the NBA, but Friday nights game reminded my why basketball has dropped off my radar. That plus the baseball and football shcedules (season, playoofs, draft, etc...) have pretty much converged to help squeeze out basketball for me.

It would have helped had you watched two decent teams. That whole series was sleep inducing even though the Bucks were newcomers to the playoffs. Uggh...eastern conference basketball...it's fantastic.matthewk wrote:Not to hate on the NBA, but Friday nights game reminded my why basketball has dropped off my radar. Even watching the Cavs is boring...but I can accept that they are a very good defensive team. Orlando is fun to watch as well...the rest, not so much. I guess I'm just spoiled watching the Suns even though it doesn't translate to banners.

I wouldn't say "in trouble". Boston is an old, slow team and the longer the series goes, the more it will favor the Cav's. Rondo is streaky and he will have some great games, but he will also have some bad ones. Boston is also no longer invincible at home, so Clev. can easily get a split going there and regain the advantage. As much as I would like to see Boston beat Clev., I just don't see it happening.lexbur wrote:Wow, that was ugly. LeBron's afraid to shoot... Mo isn't... Shaq's been awful... no answer for Rondo... no sense of urgency, especially on defense... bye-bye home-court advantage... Cavs are in trouble.
The Hawks tend to play down to the level of their opponents, but you saw how they picked it up when they "had to". We will see if they are "decent" or not against Orlando. But the Hawks won as many games during the season as your Suns, so I guess your Suns aren't "decent" either?dbdynsty25 wrote:

Shaq has been awful for 3 years. I was happy the Suns got two bags of rotting corpses for him in the offseason. That was a thing of beauty. He thinks his skills are better than they are...nothing worse for a player really. Especially a starter.lexbur wrote:Wow, that was ugly. LeBron's afraid to shoot... Mo isn't... My 9-year-old son became very interested in college basketball this winter, enthralled by Syracuse's strong season. His interest has carried over to the NBA, so I've watched more NBA Playoffs this spring than in the past 15 springs combined.
I still prefer college hoops, but I must admit that I'm finding myself fairly entertained by the pro game.
I don't think I'll ever give up the NHL for the NBA or dissect the NBA playoff games in here the way you cats do, but the hoop playoffs are sustaining my mild interest this year. Guess I'll just go with the flow. Plus it's fun to watch the games with my two sons.

I am a Hawks fan and I am right here... but then again I don't talk trash and I call it like I see it.. I said earlier in the season the Hawks would lose their last game and I also said they were NOT an elite team.. both are clearly true.
The second worst thing that happened to this franchise occurred when they beat the Bucks.... that likely saved Woody's job.... I am hoping both Woody and JJ end up in NY.
The first thing did not just happen, someone did it... The trade of Dominique... I block out his name but the idiot that traded him use to get booed every time he would open his mouth in front of a crowd in Georgia..... What an idiot, never once was Danny Manning close to the player Nique was - and Nique was a Dawg too.
The Hawks had a chance at winning a title that year too - yes they were good but better yet, Jordan was playing baseball.
