OT: NBA Season 2009-2010 & Fantasy Hoops Talk

Post by dbdynsty25 »

No sense in having two separate threads on hoops since they usually only go a few pages 'round these parts.

Anyway...I've got about 4 spots available for a fantasy hoops league. Draft is Sunday, 6:30pm PST...it's roto scoring with weekly lineup changes so it doesn't take a lot of work. 10 dollar buy in, 75% to first place and 25% to second. If you're interested, PM me and I'll get you the login information. Please commit to the season...every year we get a few who just ignore it about a quarter of the way into the season. It's not a huge time drain...one day per week to change lineups.

So who's gonna win it all this year? I can guarantee it won't be Cleveland. Adding the "Big Distraction", Shaq, is a bad bad idea. He's destroyed every team he's been on and for some reason he is the "good" guy all of the time. I don't get it...he's a distraction and the Lebron's will not win with him in the middle.

If I had to pick...it'll be San Antonio in the West and the Celtics in the East with SA winning the ring. Not exactly long shots, but they are the safest picks at this point.

If I had to pick the most improved team...Oklahoma. Look out for these guys, they will make the playoffs this year.

I am excited about this year being a Celtic fan. I hope everyone stays healthy. I like their bench and the starters should not have to play a ton of minutes. I think that is key. Eddie House is one of my favorites. Love that guy.

Will wait and see with Rasheed. Living in Michigan, I was not a huge fan of his. I do believe that his play went down when Chauncey was traded. The Pistons really did not have a leader after he left and Sheed seemed to lose interest. I don't think that will happen with KG, Pierce and Doc.

You don't think the Artest signing will work out? I do not follow the West as closely, but the Jefferson signing in S.A. is interesting.

Lakers are better with Artest?

And if they're not, the NBA will make sure.

It's going to be an insufferable season.

Mavs will go 71-11. The Matrix has looked fabulous and re-energized, and a healthy Howard will give the Mavs a formidable starting 5 with a great bench. Eff the Spurs...

P.S. I don't really believe that.

P.P.S. Don't tell anyone I made a post in the NBA thread, I can probably hide in here all season... :)

Mavs will be lucky to get 60 wins, let alone 71...especially in the west. Ain't happening. At least you said you didn't really believe that. :)

I don't think I've ever been more excited for the start of an NBA season as I am this year. I'm anxious to see what affect Shaq will have on the team. Maybe he will be nothing but a distraction, but if so it's not like we gave up anything for him, except Dan Gilbert's money. And the thought of having Z coming in off the bench to go up against other teams second-stringers, you gotta like that. Z could have a big year, in what could be his finale.

But as far as all the Shaq hype and the "Win A Ring For The KIng" talk, all I can say is don't forget, this is Cleveland, whatever can go wrong will go wrong. It's already starting with Delonte West. Who knows when he'll get it together enough to contribute. That pickup of Anthony Parker may turn out to be just as important as getting Shaq, considering Delonte's problems.

And the whole "Where's LeBron going to be next year?" talk is probably going to be a bigger distraction than anything Shaq can stir up.

I guess overall I'm not as optimistic going in to this year as I was with last year's team. And the thing is, nothing they do in regular season is going to change that, unless they absolutely pound teams like the Lakers, Spurs, Magic and Celtics every time they play them. Afterall, they had the #1 seed last year and couldn't get it done.

But after the horrible year the Tribe had, the friggin' joke that the Browns have become, and the fact that Game 1 of the World Series is Cliff Lee vs. CC Sabathia, I CAN'T WAIT for the NBA to tip it off! Should be an interesting year.

GO CAVS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great start to the season. Really happy - and surprised - at how well the Celtic bench played. The run they led in the second was the key. Nice to see another clutch Pierce performance in the fourth. First win in Cleveland in something like five years.

That was kind of a letdown. Gotta hand it to ‘em, Boston looks awesome right now. The Cavs offense seems out of synch, especially Parker and LeBron, but that’s bound to improve with time. They really miss Delonte, and I don’t know what’s going on with Mo Williams, last night we saw the playoff version of Mo Williams from last year, not the regular season Mo. And my theory that Z was going to dominate other teams second units doesn’t figure to work out too well against Boston this year, thanks to Sheed.

I think the Cavs are going to take a while to incorporate the new parts, and find the rotation that works. Was surprised Parker played 40 minutes; that's a much bigger role than expected (I know Delonte was out, but Moon and/or Gibson should be able to play some shooting guard against a team like the Celtics, especially as speed and proximity is a greater hindrance to Allen than size), and he didn't have his legs under his shot in the second half. I think once the rotation solidifies and the second unit finds an identity the Cavs will be able to hold the leads the first unit creates.

Was really surprised to see Shaq and Z on the court together. The Celtics didn't exploit the lack of foot speed as much as they should, but both Z and Shaq got burned on pick and rolls, as they will all season. If teams have Centers that can hit that 10-12 footer with consistency (Perk was 2-4 from that range), there is nothing the Cav's can do to stop it. Just too slow to protect the paint on the drive and get out to contest the shot.

Wow. My Hawks are playing unreal right now. Beating Boston in Boston and then laying the smakdown on the Hornets the next night in ATL. They have the best record in the NBA! Jamal Crawford has been like a Godsend and Josh Smith is playing like someone finally switched on his brain. Somebody pinch me! I'm in hoop heaven! :)

I believe the Suns at 9-2 have a better record than the Hawks at 8-2. And the Suns have beat Boston @ Boston and blew the Hornets out as well (who cares, they are terrible). So settle down. The Suns aren't even that good. It's still WAY too early.

I was talking as of Sat. Anyway, record nonwithstanding, beating Boston in Boston shows that the Hawks are ready for the big time now and are a team to be reckoned with.

I do agree with you though....the Suns AREN'T that good!

Well congrats...you have a great record in a league w/ 2 good teams. Who'd you lose to again? Oh yeah, the Lakers (ok, no problem) and a 20 point loss to the f*cking BOBCATS. Ouch. At least the Suns two losses were against the two Finals teams last year (Lakers/Magic). Definitely not the Bobcats.

Anybody can lose to a poor team on any night. It happens to the best teams and will happen to the Suns this year. You play down to their level and take them lightly.

But I'm not saying the Suns are God's gift to NBA basketball...that's you w/ the Hawks. And clearly, if you lose to Charlotte that's one thing, but getting crushed by them is another.

A loss is a loss. I'll take 8-2 for every 10 game all day long. I know its just the beginning, but I am really excited about this team this year. That win in Boston was a big step forward. The Hawks have always been great at home, but on the road has been like a different team.

Going to the game tonite vs Portland. 1st one this year...can't wait!

Went to the Hawks / Portland game last night. The 1st 3 quarters were blah.....Hawks were off and Portland couldn't pull away, but then the 4th qtr came and everything picked up. Game went into OT when Portland made a desperation 3 pointer at the buzzer! Hawks put em away in the OT, with Josh Smith and Joe Johnson stepping up in the clutch. What a game! I moved down to 2nd row behind the Hawks bench for the OT and also shot some great video.

Hey Scotty boy, Mavs and Suns on top of the world, just like old times. No idea how the Mavs are 8-3, they are playing like dogshit. Every game is an ugly brickfest with starring roles for Dirk, Kidd and Barea... and suddenly Marion and Gooden are clumsier than hell. I'd swear they played better during their 2-7 start last year.

LOL...I hear ya. Even the Suns aren't playing that well, regardless of the 10-2 record. In 5 of the 10 wins, they've been trailing by 12 points or MORE. It's either a good thing they are mentally tough enough to come back on teams or it's a bad thing that they are even trailing by that much in the first place. The thing I take solace in is the fact that the Suns have played 75% of their games so far on the road and they've already got 6 wins on the road. That's a decent sign at least.

FIRE MIKE DUNLEAVY YOU PATHETIC EXCUSE FOR AN NBA TEAM OWNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don Nelson should be free soon. We'll take him over Dunleavy any day. Go Clips.

EDIT***

I should clarify that I like him as the GM, not as the coach. And definitely not as both.
