Bad Company 2 (move over Modern Welfare)

Have any of you guys tried out MAG for the ps3? My buddy kept nagging me to go buy this game and how great it was but I kept refusing to take his advise due to low funds. After about 2 weeks of listening to my buddy ramble on about how this game is more about strategy and slower paced than codmw2, I finally gave in and bought the damn game! I gotta say that this is the only game I play atm. When I'm not playing it...all I do is think about playing it. I have the bfbc2 demo for 360, ps3, and pc which will be a day 1 purchase (although still undecided for which system), but MAG, at this moment, is the best fps I have played to date! Games are not always about the prettiest graffics and this game proves that!!! I could go on and on about what I like about this game but all I can say is take a chance on this game...It gets better the more you play it!

Love Mag
Hate Sony's online component. It makes getting together with your friends impossible when you compare it to Live.
Plus almost no one here or I know games online on the PS3.
But again Love Mag, it is super fantastic.

Game in hand.. It kills the last Bad Company!! Here's my impressions so far after 1 hour of play
Graphics are NOT in the same league as Modern Warfare 2. The gameplay is a lot slower paced than Modern Warfare. They took out the syringe from the last Bad Company. You no longer have a 0-100 health meter. Health is like many other games now days. If you take damage the screen goes red. Take too much damage and you die. If you're getting shot, all you need to do is get to cover and go a few seconds without taking damage. The game is plain FUN! So far there are a lot more video sequences to watch, and they really have integrated vehicles a lot more. I am playing on normal and it's no cakewalk, but it's not too hard. I'd imagine the hard setting would be a much bigger challenge, but normal is good for the first play-through. If you didn't like the demo, you WON'T like the final game. I honestly don't see how anyone can not like this game, but it's obvious so far many people aren't a fan of it. If your idea of fun is running and gunning, this isn't your kind of game. If you like games like Ghost Recon or Rainbow Six, this game should appeal to you. After 1 hour of playing it I am hooked! Graphics are the biggest weakness in this game. They aren't bad by any means, but no one will mention this game in the 2010 talk for graphics of the year. MW2, Uncharted 2 and Assassin's Creed 2 all crush this game visually. The game has so much going on and so many little details that it'd be impossible to improve the graphics without sacrificing the gameplay. To me, gameplay is where it's at and I am very pleased. The visuals get the job done, but people who are used to MW2 will complain that the game looks shitty. Some of the explosions look pretty shitty, and the players faces are poor. I don't play a game for the graphics so it doesn't bother me, but it will inevitably be a deal breaker for several people. I don't think this game will sell well to kids in the 12-19 range, who are the #1 MW2 fans. No coincidence there. I'm having more fun with this game than ANY PS3 game I've had besides Uncharted 2.

Could be the PS3...we all know the PS3 gets the short end of the port visuals usually. I can't decide which version I'm going to get yet...360 or PC.TCrouch wrote:That's strange, because all of the reviews I've seen mention the ridiculously pretty backdrops and vistas.
Curious to check it out later.
If you're into multiplayer the 360 would be a no brainer.dbdynsty25 wrote:Could be the PS3...we all know the PS3 gets the short end of the port visuals usually. The visuals are nice, sure. If MW2 didn't exist, this game may be the benchmark for visuals. As it is, MW2 is still the "king" when it comes to FPS visuals on a console. The player faces are pretty crap, and some of the explosions are PS2 looking. The backgrounds are great, and you really feel like you're there. The game looks great when you are looking at a distance, but if you are right next to something it still kinda has that grainy low resolution look to it that the last Bad Company had. I am playing it with a few friends who are MW2 fanatics, and they are doing nothing but talk crap on the game. We all admit how fun it is, but the visuals leave something to be desired for a seasoned MW2 player. It's all about the gameplay to me, so I am as happy as a pig in s***.TCrouch wrote:That's strange, because all of the reviews I've seen mention the ridiculously pretty backdrops and vistas.

The problem is that I'm HORRIBLE at shooters on the consoles. I'm a M&K man. I'll probably get the 360 version tho...I'll play MW2 on the PC.Rodster wrote:If you're into multiplayer the 360 would be a no brainer.dbdynsty25 wrote:Could be the PS3...we all know the PS3 gets the short end of the port visuals usually. Ps3 gets the short end of the visual stick? I've never heard that, but that's something to consider. I wanted to get this game for 360 but I am "saving" the system for Splinter Cell LOL.
Being able to destroy buildings in this game more than makes up for the graphical shortcomings compared to MW2. I may just be seeing it differently and I am looking forward to you guys to chime in with opinions. It's not like the game looks like a PS2 game, it just doesn't have the polish that MW2 has. It has a more gritty and realistic look, which I am a fan of.
db a friend of mine said the PC version is by FAR the best, so you should maybe consider that.

Yeah I know what you mean and I suck playing an FPS game with a controller. But I sure as hell thought you were going to remind me of your 57ft. flat panel PC monitor with 190,000 x 120,000 resolution.dbdynsty25 wrote:The problem is that I'm HORRIBLE at shooters on the consoles. Just had an "oh s***" moment. I was zoomed in on a guy shooting a rocket at me from a long distance away. I went for a head shot and missed, and then a second later I was dead. Seeing the missile speed at me and get bigger and bigger was awesome! This game really relies on vehicles a lot so far. Not having the 1-100 health meter is also a welcome addition. I got so damn sick of using that damn syringe in the last version!!

Ha...not so much. My 24" monitor and computer desk can't compare to my recliner and a 47" LCD and full surround a mere 7 feet away.Rodster wrote:Yeah I know what you mean and I suck playing an FPS game with a controller. Either Modern Warfare is the best looking game of all time that I can't remember, or Bad Company 2 looks every bit as good on my TV. Through the first two chapters, the jungle was quite gorgeous, and the mountain backdrops were very impressive in the 2nd chapter.
The character faces aren't as detailed, that's for sure. But I barely stared at the faces of the guys in MW2 so I'm probably not the best judge of that.
All I know is that in a firefight when I hit concrete and the dust flies, and I can't see crap...then it slowly dissipates and a snow flurry kicks in, walls are exploding, etc. This is, in my opinion, certainly not an "average" game, graphically.

No doubt about it. The best way I can say it is that it's different looking than MW2. MW2 has that glossy look while Bad Company is gritty and realistic. I prefer Bad Company, but the average gamer will probably wish it had the polished look of MW2.TCrouch wrote:Either Modern Warfare is the best looking game of all time that I can't remember, or Bad Company 2 looks every bit as good on my TV. Wow, impressive game, especially the sound! If you guys are rolling with a big surround sound system (see Home theater pic thread for reference
), make sure you put the audio setting on "Home Cinema" and not the default "Hi-Fi" to get even bigger booms and more dynamic ranges.

Zep and others - thanks for the invite last night. That was my first time with the game (didn't play the demo) and after being a little shell shocked for the first few rounds, it really came together in that last game we played. It was also nice to play with people who actually communicate and go after objectives after playing round after round of Modern Warfare in quiet rooms full of randoms.
Anyway, look me up again if you want. The game is really sweet.

I couldn't even connect to the EA servers last night. Hoping I can get on tonight!Spooky wrote:Anyone else having trouble getting into online games? I'm getting the long wait followed by the "No games availible at the moment" message a lot more than I'd care for.

Seems to be some kind of glitch. I was having the problem as well but I found out that if you go back to the main menu, hit the guide button and sign out and then sign back in you will be able to get into games. Very wonky, but it worked for me everytime I was getting the no games available message.Spooky wrote:Anyone else having trouble getting into online games? Here's what's been working for me...playing a minute or two of the single player and then going back to online. Strange huh?btmmayor wrote:Seems to be some kind of glitch.
