Bad Company 2 (move over Modern Welfare)
So have any of you tried Bad Company 2 multiplayer demo yet? I have been playing with a dedicated group and it blows away COD/MW out of the water. It is not even close. The demo gives you 1 map to play with (Attack/Defend against a series of 4 objectives) and even with this 1 map, we are finding new strategies after a week! And it is just 1 mode of play, with other variations playing out differently even on the same map.
It is really really really good. I have experienced no lag so far, destroying buildings, riding a tank/helicopter and blowing the crap out of everything has never been so fun. I can see it is not so fun though if you have random teammates who don't coordinate their attack, but that's true with any team-based objective game.
The best thing is, even if you are not a good FPS player, you can play a vital role in your team in being a medic (reviving downed players), spotting enemies or just ride along in a vehicle.

anyone know how positive/negative the single-player mode, is expected to be in this title?
will it be at the level of a Mercenaries 1 (ps2)? Or is this expected to basically be multiplayer fare only?
would like to decide between Operation Flashpoint DR. Or this title. Based on offline/campaign. Don't really want both

Before I ordered, I wanted to make sure the single player was at least up to COD 2 standards..vinny-b wrote:anyone know how positive/negative the single-player mode, is expected to be in this title?

This is from their site, to take it FWIW:
Intense single player
From dense jungles to snow-torn mountains, the intense single player campaign follows a more experienced and mature 'B' Company on a daring new mission in an attempt to stave off a new World War.

I found this pretty damning, especially since MW2 was Gamespy's Game of the Year. I'm sure it's somewhat exaggerated, but still.Naples39 wrote:Videos look pretty impressive for this one. I think it's apples to oranges compared to MW2, but I think just about everyone is getting a little sick of MW2 right now.
The Modern Warfare 2 Typical Game Flowchart
I tried the demo out and didn't care for it during my initial run. It felt the same as other Battlefield games I've played, which is to say you spend 95% of your time running towards where you think the fighting is and 5% of the time actually doing some fighting. The shooting model also doesn't have as good a feel as MW2. I'll give it another try, but offhand I don't see this replacing MW2 anytime soon.
It does look pretty, though.

I grabbed the same pre-order deal from Walmart.com. They already delivered the $20 e-card and I spent it on getting some digital photos printed at the store.MizzouRah wrote:I'm going to pre order from Amazon.. they have a $20 off your next purchase coupon.
I'll probably buy the game there in-store, on release day, then return the sealed one I get in the mail from the online purchase with my release date receipt. Standard operating procedure for me though, to get the best deal online and have the game on day 1 too. Just an extra step of doing the return a week later when it shows up in the mail.

Vinny: Flashpoint has gotten a lot of really bad reviews. It is a good game in theory, but it's poorly executed. My advice to you is to pick up the last Bad Company for ps3. I got it brand new from Game Stop for 20 bucks since it's a greatest hits title now. The single player is the only mode I play (don't like online gaming) and it's incredible. Think of Bad Company as Madden and Call of Duty as Nfl Blitz. Bad Company makes you think and plan your attacks. Call of Duty is a game for 12 year olds who like camping and have fast reflexes. You can't go wrong with Bad Company. It's my all time favorite shooting game besides Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell.vinny-b wrote:anyone know how positive/negative the single-player mode, is expected to be in this title?

I've heard this mentioned a lot now. Anyone care to offer up some facts or proof this is the case?

Wow.. I can't believe they allowed you to use the credit already.. with Amazon, you have to wait until two days after you receive the game.jondiehl wrote:

I'm not sure this counts as 'facts' or 'proof', but I have always found every battlefield game (including my brief time with this demo) to have clunky, laggy, and ultimately unpredictable gunplay (ie hit detection, weapon range, weapon recoil etc). It's a pretty common complaint about the battlefield series.Danimal wrote:I've heard this mentioned a lot now. I think it's a lot of factors, which underlines what COD does so well; audio, visual and force feedback if you are hitting your target and vice versa, better tracer effects and bulletholes...etc.
I guess the best way to sum it up is in COD you never see two guys at point blank range empty entire clips at one another and neither kills the other, which I saw all the time in BF1942.

FWIW, I have not played any other Battlefield game besides BC2 demo. I have no issue with BC2 demo gunplay. However, I do have to learn to shoot. Instead of holding down the trigger, you have to do tat-tat-tat to be accurate.Naples39 wrote:I'm not sure this counts as 'facts' or 'proof', but I have always found every battlefield game (including my brief time with this demo) to have clunky, laggy, and ultimately unpredictable gunplay (ie hit detection, weapon range, weapon recoil etc). I do think COD have better sound effects for the guns, which contribute to a better "feel".

This. Also, not being able to go prone is a very cheap way for BF to keep the already overpowered snipers from ruining the game.Naples39 wrote:I'm not sure this counts as 'facts' or 'proof', but I have always found every battlefield game (including my brief time with this demo) to have clunky, laggy, and ultimately unpredictable gunplay (ie hit detection, weapon range, weapon recoil etc). Overall though, the Battlefield games have some of the best audio of any videogame. Dead Space is the only other game I would put in the same class as Battlefield when it comes to the audio.WillHunting wrote:I do think COD have better sound effects for the guns, which contribute to a better "feel".
The first Condemned is fantastic too.btmmayor wrote:Overall though, the Battlefield games have some of the best audio of any videogame.
