"The team has been hard at work rebuilding the NHL 2K franchise from the ground up. Because we’ve poured every resource we have into this game, we made a strategic decision not to release a demo. But we do want to give you a chance to try the game before it officially hits store shelves"

They made a lot of progress from 2k8 to 2k9 and everything shown so far looks like they've made more progress. I'm sure the budget for a 2k hockey game is probably pretty small compared to that of EA's NHL game so if they don't want to spend resources on a demo and would rather dedicate that to the final product I'm okay with that. It sucks we won't get a demo but I don't think that means it will be an epic fail because of that. This is a different economy than it was in 2006 so not putting out a demo for a small budget game shouldn't necessarily raise red flags IMO.
