MLB 2K9 Official Thread of 360 owners fingers crossed

I read last night where a mod over at OS says there is some horrible franchise stuff going on. Tons of top quality players remaining FA and sitting for whole seasons as teams are in the negative in cash.
How do they NOT catch this s*** during testing?
I'm going to read up more on it today.. but seriously.. I was really looking forward to franchise mode after reading the franchise blog over at espn.

Well, coming from someone who doesn't live vicariously through my video games,
I loved the demo from a purely gameplay perspective. Once I got a handle on the pitching, and quit throwing meatballs, this game is one helluva good time, from the visuals, to the presentation (the 'going to commercial' black screen thing is genius!), to the commentary...
...this one just got put at the top of my gf list, and it would be a day one purchase if I didn't already have Halo Wars and HAWX coming out the same day...

How exactly is there not a season mode? Can't you just play one year in a franchise? Can't you turn off all the management stuff, if that is what you want, to have the CPU handle it?Rodster wrote:I also read that there's no Season Mode this year. It's looking more and more like the PC version is the way to go for me.
What exactly do you need in a season mode that is not offered by just playing one year in a franchise mode?

Maybe it was not necessary to catch this during testing. Ever think that they have manipulated their FA logic and teams spending based on our current economic times?
Now that is reaaaaaaaalism. Expect a mid season bailout DLC by May.

One of the two guys who has it at OS said there's no Season mode this year. I hope that's not true as I only use Season mode.bdoughty wrote:How exactly is there not a season mode? Did you read what I wrote? Season mode exists, even without a Season mode. I do not have to have a retail copy of the game to state this little factoid.Rodster wrote: One of the two guys who has it at OS said there's no Season mode this year. I hope that's not true as I only use Season mode.

I don't know anything about this particular game in this regard, but in cases in the past, no, there are elements of franchise that you can't turn off or simply ignore in these sports games. (So you're stuck assigning 'training points' or have to watch CPU GM's make wacky trades along the way and stuff. )bdoughty wrote: Can't you turn off all the management stuff, if that is what you want, to have the CPU handle it?

Okay, well then I guess you poor folks are destined to print out your teams schedule, play them in an exhibition mode and total the stats up in a spreadsheet.webdanzer wrote:I don't know anything about this particular game in this regard, but in cases in the past, no, there are elements of franchise that you can't turn off or simply ignore in these sports games. Jeez as if hitting a couple buttons is going to kill you. Of all the things to pout about, as if this dev team had nothing better to worry about in their first year.
P.S. I am pretty sure you can turn off all trades in the past few games or at the very least control them yourself.
P.S.S.
You can turn CPU trading off in MLB 2K9, just as you could in 2k8.

after the game has gone gold a conversation strikes up..
"hey, did anyone bother to simulate a whole season and then check out the teams come next season?"
"oh... s***!"

Don't know why that struck me so funny, except that maybe it's because it's so damned obvious...
My Tesla referral code - get free supercharger miles!! https://ts.la/gregg43474
Except that sometimes -and again, I'm not talking specifically about this game- franchise modes contain things like setting ticket prices, coaches getting fired, etc that you may not want to do. Yes, in many or most cases you can turn some of these things off in options, but sometimes you cannot and if you just ignore them your team may suffer.greggsand wrote:Right. I don't recall where I personally encountered this last, but I think it was in one of the recent EA hockey games.
One of the developers posted this over on OS:
"The franchise issue is already fixed for a patch that is releasing on launch day. You can go back to your regularly scheduled worrying.

And this is why we can't have nice things. Hey, I do not mind screwing the TV Networks and Hollywood (sorry but not that into music, I leave that to PK) but there are a few guys who work on games that come around here from time to time.
Might want to not discuss stealing from them, right here in front of their face, so to speak.

Good point, eventhough it's situational ethics, still a really good point. I'm really diggin' this game this year, I haven't had played 2K Baseball in about 3 years, but I am enjoying the hell outta the demo.bdoughty wrote:Rodster wrote:I preordered the PC version at my local GameStop. If it makes you feel better I promise to buy the retail version.bdoughty wrote:Rodster wrote:I preordered the PC version at my local GameStop.
