I hate to pull the db card out but you should have filed it under the other thread you created. :P

Almost as exhilarating as creating such a thread, knowing that DB was lurking in the shadows, ready to pounce on it with a link from my past.

This one is the "official" thread and therefore far greater than any 2K9 thread created in the past. Thus is the law of the internet forum discussion act of 2001.

Only two screens but I don't think they're "crappy"...hopefully we'll get 2 quality baseball titles this year.

Crappy because that's all they released or crappy because they look bad? They look fine to me.

I do hope they release some more info though.

They should release a mod that lets you get rid of these utterly ridiculous pajama pants that ballplayers wear and replace them with honest-to-goodness baseball pants.

Crappy because there were only two and because they are the typical, here is the replay shots with "depth of field" blur.

Next time I will be more specific.

Also while it is hard to tell, due to how the screens were taken (and the position of the camera), the field textures look more like 2k8 than they do 2K7. Flat and blurred out.

Interesting that Gary Thorne is in an EA game (NHL 09) and a 2K game (MLB 2K9).

Let's hope they also put numbers on the sliders this year. I wasted so much time last season counting my clicks!

Not unusual in gaming. Jesper Parnevik was licensed in both TW and Links for PC at the same time.....

Steve f*cking Phillips? It is bad enough that ESPN is adding him to the Sunday Night booth, but now he's going to be in videogames too?

How has the Living Rosters feature gone for NBA 2k9 this year, has 2K done a good job of keeping those updated?

I'll politely agree. I really do not like the Neo-GAF convention 'X thread of X.'

Happy to have the baseball info, though!

I thought the title's construction was an homage to Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!

I do like that it was possibly created with the knowledge that it would generate a DB-related response. I could be wrong, but that may be the first metafictional event we've had here at DSP.

he's a lurker! :)

Seriously, I hope 2K brings something fresh this year. They showed so much promise with their new pitching controls, but they didn't do much for hitting. Every year, they change a few things and leave other things the same or make them worse.

I really wish someone would bring back "cursor hitting" like they had in All Star Baseball. I loved that hittng interface!

Why does everyone like cursor hitting so much? It seems so... unlike real life to me. When I play softball, I don't have a spot that I watch, then move that spot if the pitch isn't where I thought it would be.

Zone hitting seems the best compromise to me, where you can quickly aim your swing, instead of trying to match the cursor to the ball.

I thought MVP 2005 had it just about perfect. Can you imaigne if we were talking about MVP 2009 now and how good it would be?

That being said, I hope 2k9 is good because i love baseball games. However, the fact this info is only trickling out now, a month and a half-ish before release has me worried.

I'm not sure who 'everyone' is, but I know there are a ton of zone hitting fans here. I think more than not, actually.

I know this because I'm usually in the minority, as I personally prefer some sort of cursor (or bat outline, or something) hitting because I like having the physics of bat to ball contact as determined by user ability be a large factor in determining the variety and effectiveness of the hit.

*I* want to be the one who just gets under a ball, or hits one off the hands, etc. Zone hitting IMO leaves too much of that up to random factors or to where the pitcher pitches the ball. (The latter is obviously an important real-word factor, but zone hitting doesn't usually let the batter prepare and adapt to that)
