I can't have this kind of stuff in the forums. And I can't have a double standard about letting some people get away with this and others not. I've already given warnings in the past about this. So sorry, but a temp ban for XXXIV. Will lift it in a few days or so.

So at least he's got this goin' for him.

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Indi ... 995810.cms
He said that the only way to tackle terrorism is through prevention. The head of the Tibetan government-in-exile left the audience stunned when he said "I love President George W Bush." He went on to add how he and the US President instantly struck a chord in their first meeting unlike politicians who take a while to develop close ties.
Big hitter, the Lama.

Why was 34 allowed to get all these personal insults in before the ban?
This stuff is really dispicable. And what for? Because you don't agree with someone's opinion? Wow....this has got to be a new low.

Strange, because 34 always seemed to respond to these thread with a lighthearted, slightly sarcastic approach....but these last several posts were just downright cruel. Sounded like a different person.

Agreed it does sound out of character for him but I also agree that everyone is entitled to their opinion and it should never get to the point of insulting someone. There's no call for that.

Jared isn't here 24/7 to babysit us, that's why he was able to get a few shots in. According to Jared's rules, he got his ban. I'm sure he knew it was coming (as we all usually do ;)). Why jump on the guy now that he can't even respond?

To me, his attacks aren't any worse than others that have gotten by here without a ban. He was just more direct about it.

So there were these things going on yesterday called the NFL conference championship games. And, being a sports fan, I was watching them. And, being that I am not an omnipresent force on these forums, and that I was also doing other things at the time (taking care of my son, working, etc.) I was not browsing the forums from 8:39pm (when the insults started) until about 11:26pm (when I made the ban). If the 3 hour delay is too much for you, please pony up some money so we can hire a professional moderator that reviews every post the INSTANT it is made.

Furthermore, I'm not a big fan of post-ban commentary. XXXIV made some posts without thinking, and it's not the first time that someone on these forums has done that. He's got his ban, it's dealt with, let's move on.

Sorry, I didn't calculate the time between posts and just noticed an awful lot of nasty comments spanning the page. I realize you aren't monitoring this stuff 24/7. My main thought was that those posts were somewhat out of character for 34. He usually takes this stuff pretty lightly. Hopefully everything is OK with him. I think he's a good dude, despite what he probably thinks of me :)

Am I the only one who thinks this entire inauguration is a bit over the top, especially in a time of economic crisis? U2 concert, Springsteen concert, Stevie Wonder concert, Garth Brooks, etc., etc. None of this stuff is free.

This special event of American government is turning into just another cliched, made-for-TV event. Let's hope Obama's inaugural address will deliver this from event from Obamapalooza to the position of importance it deserves. I'm confident it will.

I also find it ironic that so few of the musical artists that held a love-in for Obama on Sunday in D.C. had the balls to go after Bush with a proper protest song the last few years. It would be one thing if Steve Earle was up there -- I could respect that. But hardly any major artist stepped up to the plate in the last six years the way CSNY, Creedence and so many others did during Vietnam.

Take care,
PK

Let Obama enjoy himself while he can! Wed morning, there will be a world of sh*t he has to deal with. I also think all this celebration gives new hope in an otherwise dismal situation. Nothing wrong with that. I also thought Obama's speech yesterday was excellent.

Please explain to me how Garth Brooks -- who Mall-sized ego (hell-ooooo Chris Gaines!) never will allow him to retire -- provides new hope.

Same with Beyonce. The only hope she inspires in millions of American men is the unrequited hope that they could bang her, myself included.

Yeah I'm over the inauguration thing. Didn't bother to watch the HBO thing.

I was surprised by how civil the inauguration was in 2000, after the election fight, the way Bush talked about bringing honor to the WH and then had to be civil to the Clintons, the uproar about the Rich pardon (which was justified) and then the RW blogs screaming how the Clintonites took everything that wasn't nailed down and trashed the WH literally, not just metaphorically.

That weekend, there was a TV show about the WH and Bush and Laura were joining one of the tours and he talked in reverential tones about the history.

As for Obama, yeah the argument that in this time of economic distress, you don't want an extravagant display does have validity. It's kind of like Ronaldo walking from the wreckage of a Ferrari, laughing about it and then jumping into a Bentley.

OTOH, a lot of people were moved to go to Washington, before they set up some big show. Maybe the country could use an uplifting diversion.

In the grand scheme of things, the money isn't that big.

But if Obama becomes a big spender, beyond the fiscal stimulus, then that's a bigger issue. He has reportedly said that he doesn't plan to pass on huge deficits to his successors. Well how can that be, if he's going to push a trillion dollar fiscal stimulus bill? I guess he's hoping that the economy recovers well before he leaves office and that he'll have started the closing of the deficit.

Paul,

You fail to understand that this is a celebration of the fact that we no longer suck as a nation. This election has made it safe for generations of artists, guilt-ridden liberals and media types to love the country that they've been ripping to shreds for decades. Dissent is the highest form of patriotism except for all-star concerts. :)

Plus it gives all of Obama's Facebook friends, $5 donors and behind-the-scenes billionaire international financiers who manipulated US election laws a chance to bask in their victory over the purveyors of hate, warmongers and corporate shills who have ruined this nation. :) :)

Not to mention all those countries who have been thumbing their nose at us. Finally we can be a nation that France, Germany and the Dixie Chicks are proud of.

Edit: Just read this.

Employees at banks, brokerages and Wall Street firms donated $7 million Barack Obama's inauguration.

Gates To Be Designated Successor On Inauguration Day
If the unthinkable happens on Inauguration Day, Robert Gates, the defense secretary, will be available to assume the reins of government.
This is just awesome. The only way he will become president if all the other successors die, simulteneously. So why not make it interesting and nominate a successor who is, quite possibly, the only person in the world, capable of accomplishing such a feat. I can just picture Gates in a secure bunker somewhere holding (Matt Damon alert) the "nuclear codes" while watching the inauguration. Imagine what's going through his head...

Old CW: Running up a big deficit to deal with a recession is bad
New CW: Running up a big deficit to deal with a recession is the best possible solution

I plan to weather the inevitable tsunami of inflation by getting out of dollars and into commodities. Oil and precious metals are going to skyrocket again, probably higher than they were before. And I'm not politically well-connected, so I'm not going to see any returns on my campaign contributions when the wave of government projects hits.

I'm actually not against the government spending a ton of money on infrastructure projects right now, but I am worried that instead of paying people to do necessary projects like upgrading the nation's electrical grid, we're going to be planting trees in road medians, spending more energy than we save in refitting buildings to be energy-efficient, painting walls, installing $50 million safety nets on bridges to force people intent on suicide to kill themselves in places that don't hurt tourism as much.

This morning's shots of Presidents Clinton and George H.W. Bush have been particularly poignant. There's clearly a genuine warmth there like none I've ever seen among ex-Presidents. Very touching to see old adversaries engaged in this way. Meanwhile nobody really wants to talk to Carter LOL

I'm reminded every transition that nobody is happier on inauguration day than the outgoing First Lady. They are the very embodiment of relief.
