My only claim was hunting and "guns in general" was more part of the Southern culture. If that's untrue, than I stand corrected. I'm still not convinced though.
Web...those are percentages that hunt within their own state. That is not a depiction of the total hunters per state.webdanzer wrote: The number is in thousands, before the percentages. I was quoting by percentages because if we go by number, the more populous north eastern states come out on top there as well.

No, the numbers on page 67 are 'all hunters,' the total number corresponding to the 12,510,000 on table 6 on page 64.JackB1 wrote:Web...those are percentages that hunt within their own state. Even if they were only talking about hunters in their same state, you can see again by the table on page 64 that 96% of hunters hunt within their state of residence anyway. So I'm not sure if you were concerned with a mass of nomadic hunters going to or from the south, but neither would skew the numbers in any appreciable manner.
The weird thing is that Palin still insists she's perfectly qualified to be VP...even after most of those around her now admit she was in over her head. When questioned about running next time, she won't rule it out or even act a little bit humbled by this experience. I would just like to hear her once say that maybe she was a bit under prepared for that position.Feanor wrote:It's not that Palin was too inexperienced, it's that she was too f***in dumb to be anywhere near the Presidency. Her overly ambitious attitude reminds me a lot of what people were saying about Hillary during the primary.
It's still not easy to determine what's purely "North" and what's "South".webdanzer wrote: No, the numbers on page 67 are 'all hunters,' the total number corresponding to the 12,510,000 on table 6 on page 64.

There are many that spread accross the whole country. If anyone finds a breakdown by State, I would love to see that.

And who would those people be, other than the disgruntled McCain campaign workers that did a poor job and are looking for a scapegoat?JackB1 wrote:The weird thing is that Palin still insists she's perfectly qualified to be VP...even after most of those around her now admit she was in over her head.
Another generality without any specifics to back up the claim.

Wow. Another fantastic, well thought out retort. Who knew?JRod wrote:Teal wrote:Yeah, God forbid someone with so little experience could actually be that near the presidency...D'OH!JRod wrote:I not surprised that DSP veered off into hunting v guns v humane treatment of animals.
But geez Palin is stupid. This has nothing to do with turkey, it has to do that a national candidate, or future national candidate, does not have the wherewithal to not have a guy slaughter a turkey while she's on camera.
You think one of her handlers would have told the guy, could you stop with the neck splittin for a second!
Just think this lady could have been one step away from being President.
Your guy lost! Funny that!

What an odd thing to debate for me on a Monday morning. Just as a point of reference, I'm a non-hunting Northerner who was a Vegan for a while until fairly recently.
Those were Leiberman holdouts, and you just want that to be true to buttress up your own hateful, ignorant rantings about the woman. Well, Jack...the 'south' thing has no merit. That's simply not the least bit true. Not at all. And 'innocent'?!? What the hell does that mean?!?JackB1 wrote:I never said that. I only said hunting is more engrained in the culture of the South. "More" doesn't mean all or nothing. It just means more. It doesn't mean everyone in the North is innocent. JackB1 wrote:Yes and No. An accurate hunter who kills his prey instantly with a shot to the brain is probably doing a better job than the slaughterhouses that raise their animals in overcrowded, disgusting, filthy conditions and then slaughter them in the cheapest way that sometimes means prolonged suffering and a long, slow, painful death. Then again, how many hunters are described by my 1st sentence? Probably few.macsomjrr wrote: Also the controlled and humane killing of animals in a slaughter house or abattoir doesn't compare to being shot in neck, leg, or abdomen only to either be caught by the hunter (and subsequently shot in the head or have your neck cut) or run away to bleed to death, or develop a septic abdomen, or become permanently crippled just so you can high five your buddy and smoke a few stoogies to celebrate unnecessary cruelty to animals. Yeah!
But you are right. There isn't much reason in this day and age to hunt for food, but those that choose to continue this practice will do whatever they can to justify it as morally OK.
And you know why there isn't much 'reason' to hunt in this day and age? Because people kill turkeys in big ol' killhouses like the one that started this stupid issue in the first place! Imagine that!

I'm sure some of the Northern hunters are wealthy types, so you're set as far as despising them under your umbrella of hate for that group as well.GTHobbes wrote:There were more than a few redneck hillbillies where I came from in Western Pennsylvania. Damn....back to the drawing board!
By "innocent", I meant that the North also has their fair share of hunters who hunt for the wrong reasons. Cruelty to animals is not isolated to any part of our country. It's everywhere you look.

60% thought she wasn't qualified then...and that was a month ago.
If you want a scapegoat, you need look no further than "Maverick" McCain, who succumbed to party pressure to pick a VP that would appease the hard right conservative portion of the base.

Damn diet caused me to develop a soy allergy. To be fair, too, I wasn't doing it 'for the animals!', but because I believe in certain health benefits of the diet. I still don't consume all that many animal products.
I never blew up any frogs, though, so maybe I'm still entitled to a few of those JackB1 points!
