I'd kind've forgotten all about the bailout. What good was that supposed to do again?Naples39 wrote:Agreed.wco81 wrote:There was no choice as far as the bailout goes. Govt. had to be the backstop. In retrospect, I think Paulsen would admit that letting Lehman Brothers fail was a mistake, which precipitated the stock market meltdown.
But I'm not debating the wisdom of the bailout. I'm taking about prospective government investment under an Obama administration in place of private investment that has been deterred by higher taxes.
At this point I think I've pretty much said what I have to say. Onwards with election news.

Well, first on the 44% point. According to the Tax Foundation, where I think you're getting those figures, Obama's plan will have 44% of tax filers owing nothing. McCain's plan will have 43% of tax filers owing nothing. So the difference between their plans in that respect, is minimal.Naples39 wrote:I just fundamentally think that's the wrong question. The question isn't whether we give tax cuts to the 'rich', the 'middle class' or to the poor. The question is, is a strong middle class a side effect of economic growth and increasing industry, or the cause of it?
The path to more jobs and creation of wealth via capital investment and expanding business is clear and supported by a mountain of theory. These are precisely the type of new jobs on which a healthy middle class is employed.
I have yet to hear anybody on either side of the aisle ever present a theory as to how Obama's tax credits will create jobs or wealth. Under Obama's plan 44% of Americans will pay no federal income tax. Are we supposed to rely on this lower 44% to create jobs? I certainly am not.
Again I extend my open invitation for links that argue a coherent theory as to how lessening the tax liability for those that already pay very little tax will spur economic growth.
http://www.taxfoundation.org/news/show/23637.html
As for lessening the tax liability on the poor/middle class, isn't that just the normal argument that lower taxes results in economic growth? Or is the question whether lowering taxes for the poor/middle class is a more effective agent for economic growth than lowering taxes for the rich?
Wife and I just got back from voting. Minnesota has a great system. You get a ballot and a black marker and all you do is color in the circle of who you want. I couldn't keep my inside the lines.
You then slide it into a machine and it's counted. It's Jackdog proof.

I've mentioned the 2004 Ohio election fraud numerous times in these threads and have you ever posted a reponse saying that any of the evidence bothers you?matthewk wrote:Who said it didn't bother me? Palin cleared of any wrongdoing in "tasergate":

Since this has been posted twice, I'd just like to point out that this investigation mentioned above is one where Palin made an ethics complaint against herself. Before that, there was the original investigation that did find that she was guilty of ethics violations. Palin, pretty sure that the first investigation was going to go against her, started this second one in the hopes that it would clear her.matthewk wrote:Palin cleared of any wrongdoing in "tasergate":

I have no idea which one is correct (nor do I really care). But I'm not sure that this investigation has "cleared" her of wrongdoing; if anything, it's muddied the waters.

From Balloon Juice:
"If you read only leftwing blogs today you will get the impression that outrages mostly happen to Democrats. Weirdly enough a rightwing blog reader will feel like he lives in an alternate universe where the opposite is true. By the end of the day either perspective will have a wealth of compelling anecdotes to bolster its case, because in a country with over a hundred million strongly opinionated voters there is room for incredibly stupid people on both shoulders of the bell curve."

Tax cuts aren't the only way to encourage economic growth; increased public and private investment in human capital might be even more important.Naples39 wrote:I just fundamentally think that's the wrong question. That's the same method we use. In and out in 15 minutes, and that's with a line running out the door and around the parking lot.JackDog wrote:Wife and I just got back from voting. But why does it have to be a black marker? Isn't that racist?

If you posted evidence of fraud in Ohio, good for you. What am I supposed to do, jump in "yeah! me too!" every time someone posts something I agree with?
That was weak.

You can obviously only jump in yelling "me too" when it's an opinion piece by a right-wing WSJ columnist.matthewk wrote:Feanor wrote:I've mentioned the 2004 Ohio election fraud numerous times in these threads and have you ever posted a reponse saying that any of the evidence bothers you?![]()
You're kidding, right? That's the excuse you're rolling with?

As weak as crying for Jared to come rescue you and making a personal attack in the very same post?

I really wish ALL STATES would do this. I had an electronic tough screen here in ATL and I left there wishing I had some kind of paper trail. Sure, it might take longer, but you would have paper backup that you could recount as many times as needed.JackDog wrote:Wife and I just got back from voting. Minnesota has a great system. That's because I heard it on the local radio this morning. I didn't hear anything about Ohio 2004 today.Feanor wrote:You can obviously only jump in yelling "me too" when it's an opinion piece by a right-wing WSJ columnist.
The rest I'm not going to bother addressing here because it's nothing but an attempt to bait me. Of course, you've edited it 3 times already, so who knows what it will say by the time you are done.
