At one time I thought you were amusing too. Alas...my winning percentage is about zero.Pete wrote:Phils will be fine. Remember, DB said the Lakers would roll the Celtics too.

Might it be Manny against his old teammates in the Series? That would be fun to watch.

On a slightly similar note...I am glad the Red Sox beat the Angels because I feel the Phillies have a better chance at beating the Red Sox. That, of course, is IF the Phillies can get by the Dodgers - which will be hard enough. Also, that is if the Red Sox can get by the Rays...which may not happen. The Angels scared the crap out of me.

What, those 14 division titles weren't enough for you? It's still nice to see someone else coming out of the NL East for a change. Heck, even the Braves' own fans were tired of seeing them in the playoffs year after year, considering they couldn't even sellout some playoff games.dbdynsty25 wrote:Which is what all of us non-Philly fans can wish for now...you know, for entertainment purposes.
(If it sounds like I'm still bitter about '95, it's only because I am.

I know...it's okay.lexbur wrote:(If it sounds like I'm still bitter about '95, it's only because I am.)
And since when is it NOT okay to root against your division rivals? That makes LITTLE to NO sense at all to me. I will root against all other division foes until the day I die. I guess I'm a bad fan.
You are a bad NL East fandbdynsty25 wrote:I know...it's okay.lexbur wrote:(If it sounds like I'm still bitter about '95, it's only because I am.)

Taking it to football...You want catch me dead rooting for the Niners.
I totally respect that. You are a true NLE fan. I have friends that are hard core Mets fans and I would NEVER expect them to root for the Phils in the playoffs. Its just not in their DNA.dbdynsty25 wrote:I know...it's okay.lexbur wrote:(If it sounds like I'm still bitter about '95, it's only because I am.)

Obviously it's totally understandable to root against teams in your own division. I loved seeing the White Sox get beat.
I'm just saying that, as an impartial, non-NL East fan, you have to understand that even though it's been a few years, it's still refreshing to us non-Braves fans to see someone besides the Braves in the playoffs. Of course I don't expect Braves fans to feel that way.
To an impartial fan watching this from a distance, seeing a Braves fan rooting against the Phillies is like seeing a Yankees fan rooting against the Rays. Although it's totally understandable, most impartial fans are thinking, "C'mon man, you guys had PLENTY of chances, it's good to see someone else get a shot once in a while." (I understand this isn't a perfect comparison, as the Phillies have been to the playoffs before, and the Rays were a much bigger underdog than the Phillies thanks to the whole salary issue with the Yankees, but you get my drift.)

The only reason the Yankee fans would be rooting for the Rays in the ALCS is because they hate the Red Sox more and it's a huge rivalry. If the Rays were playing, say the Rangers or Indians, they would be rooting for one of those teams and not the Rays. As they should. Then again, the Rays are a BAD example, since they haven't been around all that long. If it were another AL East team, Yankee fans would be dead set against them winning.
I will NEVER, EVER root for a team in my favorite team's division. NEVER. Who cares how many "chances" a team had? That's ridiculous. Sure...anyone that likes a team outside of the Braves division would love to see other teams in it...that's natural. But from inside the division...vitriol is the only emotion I feel towards foes.

The Phillies did need to win this one much more than the Dodgers.
I was at the game tonight again and it didn't look good for a while. Hamels had the jitters in the first, and the offense fell asleep for several innings. Crazy that it was another at bat by a pitcher that awoke the crowd, and though Rollins flied out next at-bat, there was a momentum shift. When Rollins turned that DP the following inning, you could feel something brewing and sure enough the Phillies hit 2 homers to take the game right then and there.
