I'll start......do the Cubs know this game counts?
I do think the Cubs will win game 2.

I noticed that too. Like they were afraid to cheer.XXXIV wrote:What about the fans at Wrigley Mausoleum?...They were dead from the start ...Long before the Dodgers took the lead.Brando70 wrote: That really sucked. No energy from the Cubs. .
Tough to lose game one of a five game series. Not panicking, but disappointed they came out so flat and that the fans sat on their hands. Wrigley should have been rocking from the first pitch.

Yeah, what the hell was that all about? The fans seemed like they were at funeral from the 1st pitch. Where are all the drunken loudmouths u usually see at Wrigley? I loved it.XXXIV wrote:What about the fans at Wrigley Mausoleum?...They were dead from the start ...Long before the Dodgers took the lead.Brando70 wrote: That really sucked. This doesn't bode well for them in a short series. Remember, they were swept last year by ARZ in a short series. If "crazy" Zambrano shows up instead of "no-hitter" zambrano, this series is OVER.
What's fox gonna do with all those sappy 100-year video packages they're saving-up for the world series??? lol...

It's a 5 game series, which means that Game 1 is almost life and death. The Cubs have lost seven straight post-season games. And you want to know why it was quiet? I would've thrown up in my hat if I were at the game.

Dodgers are pretty collapsible even if they do have Manny swinging like mad man in the lineup. I like the cubs chances in game 2 with Big Z against Billingsely, and then Harden in game 3 looks good for the cubs too (v. Kuroda). They could very easily go up 2-1 and everyone knows that its all about pitching in the playoffs so taking one more out of the two remaining (Lilly and ?) is doable. Things aren't over yet!
Man cubs fans are so damn depressing:)

It's a 5 game series. I agere with basically everything that you say, but that kind of analysis is worth zilch. Any pitcher can come out any game and lay an egg and another can unexpectedly be unhittable. This isn't the NBA where the best team almost always wins the series.macsomjrr wrote:Dodgers are pretty collapsible even if they do have Manny swinging like mad man in the lineup. Not really Dan.sportdan30 wrote:Shocked to hear Cubs fans booing. It was game one. That's it. The Big Z takes the mound. He'll put them back on track with a W.
I did not grown up in Chicago but I have lived here 18 years now and one of the first things I noticed when moving here (besides they put garden salads on their hot dogs) is that Chicago fans are some of the most fickle fans I have ever seen. They turn from jeers to cheers at the drop of a hat.
I can't wait for tomorrow at work, all the Cubbie fans will be predicting doom.

Any comment based on the predicting the outcome of a sports series is worth zilch Rob. That is why they play the games and why we all watch them. I guess my point was I'm kinda sick of hearing cubs fans crying about how the series is over after a game one loss. You've got pitching in your favor which historically helps during the POs.
Sorry my comment wasn't quite as hard hitting and in depth as...

I would like to remind everyone who doesn't watch a lick of west coast sports that Billingsley had a 3.14 ERA and 16 wins. He was the most consistent pitcher all year for the Dodgers. The Dodgers pitching staff may not have the big name ace that the media loves to talk about but they are deeper (starting and relief) than just about any other team out there. I'm anything but overly confident but I like Billingsley as our #2 against a Zambrano who was awful in his last two starts.
* Zambrano
* W-L: 14-6
* ERA: 3.91
* K: 130
* Billingsley
* W-L: 16-10
* ERA: 3.14
* K: 201
* Zambrano
* W-L: 14-6
* ERA: 3.91
* K: 130
* Billingsley
* W-L: 16-10
* ERA: 3.14
* K: 201

And I would like to remind you that the Dodgers play in the NL West. Playing a few series against the Padres alone will probably subtract at least 1 point from your ERA and add around 50 wins:) And this is from a Padres fan:)LAking wrote:I would like to remind everyone who doesn't watch a lick of west coast sports that Billingsley had a 3.14 ERA and 16 wins. Seriously though I don't think Zambrano has a big advantage over Bilingsley but I would still give him the nod. You're right that both teams do appear to have great arms but I really think playing in the West against the Giants, Padres, Rockies etc... helps pad the dodgers stats a bit.
Adding Manny has been exactly what the Dodgers needed and the guy has been on fire since joining them. Isn't he batting close to or over .400 since coming to LA? Still the cubs aren't slouches with their bats either. I dunno I think this all makes for a really good matchup however you look at it:) I know I'll be screaming BEAT LA! BEAT LA! BEAT LA! at the TV tomorrow. I'll be adopting the cubbies from here on out so they better do something:)

I agree tonight is a must win. However, if the Cubs win tonight, I don't think they suffer too much momentum loss. And, to reverse the curse, I seem to recall a certain San Diego team getting the snot pounded out of them in the first two games of the playoffs, only to win three in a row against the Cubs.
So buck up lil' buckaroo, and get yourself a new hat

And momentum in baseball only lasts as long as the next pitch.

Always tough to call a five game series, but I hope the Cubbies win the second game.
Yeah, Dodgers are a different team with Manny, they have that added confidence it seems even when they are down but not many people talk about the game of J. Bay in BOS. Not to say that they don't miss Ramirez but Jason has been very solid for the Bosox.

No love for my Phillies in this thread!? Hamels was damn near untouchable yesterday. Charlie would have been killed by the media if Lidge blew that save. I would have let Hamels finish it off but I am not the manager
It worked out...I almost had a heart attack but it worked out. If they can somehow beat Sabathia tonight and go into Milwaukee with a 2-0 lead...giddy up! I just hope Myers has his A game tonight. His last start was atrocious...but the previous 4-5 were phenomenal. Can't wait to watch it! Playoff baseball is so fun when your damn team is in!
