Which is how it should be. If you don't win the Series the season is a failure. At least that's what I was told after the 03 season when the team got within 5 outs of the WS

I can never understand why the LDS is a 5-game series. It makes the playoffs that much more of a crapshoot, and would adding two more games to the postseason make it that much longer?
I agree...Adding two possible games is nothing...Best of 5 is bullshit.

It still wouldnt have helped the Cubs. This series was such total domination that a seven game series would have made it a 4 game sweep.

BUT....I can see where it would help the White Sox :P

Of course I now predict that the White Sox and Brewers will make the WS with the Sox winning, just to annoy Cubs fans.

No fan of the Dodgers but didn't the Cubs have some ridiculous payroll?

It would be great to see the Red Sox go down too.

Now you can enjoy the beatdown the Phils are going to take at the hands of the Dodgers.

I have to agree. I think the Dodgers in 5 or 6. They are a totally different team since the addition of Manny and the subtraction of the other big $$$ slugs.

You guys are funny. Phils have the most dominating pen in the league, the rotation just dominated the Brewers and our offense is no joke. Best road record in the NL. Kicked the Dodgers asses up and down the field last time they saw them (and yes Manny was there) 4 game sweep...yet you say Dodgers in 5 or 6 :) That NL west was awesome this year too. Are you guys here all week? Wow. At least apply SOME logic to your statement. Can the Dodgers win? Absolutely...it's the playoffs. Are they an unbeatable juggernaut? Absolutely not. Christ, they just beat a team that couldn't hit with a Fat Albert bat. They weren't even challenged. Phils have won 16 of their last 19 against teams that were fighting for their lives (Well maybe not the Nats). Call me crazy but I like my team's chances.

Vegas has the dodgers favored as well. That's gotta count for something(esp with philly having home field). I doubt they're just trying to be 'funny'.

If the dodgers win game 1, the philly fans will turn on their team, & the series is over. I do like how u simply wrote off the cubs as a team that can't hit. that could have something to do with the dodgers pitching. it's not like they just set the ball on a tee...

Classic response. That is simply an untrue statement...you know it and I know it.

As far as my reply above, maybe "funny" was the wrong way of putting it...but so was the "breakdown" by those who I was responding too. I'm not angry or anything...I like the discussion but give me something that I can say, "you know what, you have a point." Both teams are hot right now and anything could happen. Both rotations and pens are pitching very good right now. Like I said before, I like my team's chances.

Good point, but you gotta admit, the Cubbies looked like s*** though.

As far as the Dodgers/Phils series, I can't imagine it being shorter than 6 games. One thing is for sure, whoever wins the series will be the better team. 7 games will determine a true winner.

Man, the Rays just won't go away. All the experts seem to think that the winner of the LA/BOS series will win the AL - The Rays are legit. Longoria is a rookie and he has the look of a guy that has been in the league for years. Hell of a player.

I agree. It's not like he made some kind of strategic mistake. He had the Cubs playing well all year, and they simply choked. The Dodgers pitching was really impressive and shut the Cubs down. Even without the walks and fielding errors of games 1 or 2, the Cubs would have lost with the way they hit.

Soriano looked like he needed to sacrifice a bucket of KFC before the series. I don't think I've ever seen worse plate discipline from a batter. Rich Harden looked more comfortable swinging than Soriano did.

I like the Phillies to win the NL, they have good pitching and a scary batting order.

Would love to see a Rays - Phillies WS.

Phils will be fine. Remember, DB said the Lakers would roll the Celtics too. 8O

And you know what? Everyone thought that they would crumble when they had 4-5 keys guys out of the lineup including E. Longoria and they still won the AL Eastern division. The problem is, no one including TPA fans knew how good they were during the regular season and most are finding out just now.

Since you keep mentioning it, the Dodgers swept the Phillies in LA in a four game series just a week or so prior to the sweep in Philly. Also, those 4 losses were during the Dodgers 8 game losing streak, right before they went on an 8 game winning streak. Once again, i'm hardly confident in this team winning the NL, but that sweep you mention doesn't mean much.

The Cubs "owned" the dodgers in the regular season, too. (cubs won 5 out of 7, I believe).

Very true. A sweep by the Dodgers and then a sweep by the Phils. I think its a fairly even series...6 or 7 games. Some one has gotta win it!

Longoria AND Crawford. I mean seriously...they beat the Red Sox for the division so why wouldn't they be favored?

The Rays were the best regular season story baseball's had in years, why would you expect MLB or its broadcast partners to show them love?

Have to enjoy the extra inning baseball tonight. Dramatic close to the 10th there with Boston leaving the bases loaded.
