While this isn't the 'REAL' New York, it's an incredibly good facsimile. Which has gotten me thinking...

How many games try to re-create a living, breathing city like NYC? How many fail in comparison to GTA4?

If you can license a game engine, why not license a city? If I were RockStar I would be out pitching the assets of Liberty City as the world's first cross-platform, cross-game, cross-genre fictional city. Why not base a new SpiderMan game in Liberty City? Why not the next BurnOut?

After enjoying the detail and scale of Liberty City, nothing less will satisfy this gamer. I say build a team at Rockstar dedicated to updating and customizing the city as an 'SDK'.[/b]

I would pay money for DLC that made the Firefly Island amusement park operational. I want to ride that damn ferris wheel.

Well Sony showed that demo of Regent street in London.

People assumed it might be used for their game about the London gang (forget the title now) but nothing has materialized.

I think they showed some people and traffic in that.

GT has a London track but I don't think they try to show people or traffic that much.

It's a tradeoff between fidelity to the buildings and streets vs. putting in more people to simulate a city environment. The more people, the less detailed they can make the buildings and streets.

This is a neat idea. If PS3s Home tried to emulate the virtual city feel of GTAs Liberty City that would be very cool. Especially with drivable cars and actual virtual apartments etc... I guess it'd have to be much bigger though, and who would live in all the fancy apartments??? :P

It would have to be an MMO like WoW, where each person only sees a portion of the map at a time but there's a lot of activity going on in parts of the map you can't see but when you enter these areas, there's been activity going on.

Home may be somewhat like that but it's not going to be a detailed city designed by one person but a collection of rooms or spaces which are designed by content developers.

You may be able to do mini-games in some areas but you probably can't do things like drive cars or have the same level of interactivity with the environment. Home is suppose to be more of a way to socialize, not do stuff.

Anyone having issues connecting to online games?

Last night, both Teal and Sport73 sent me invites, and after accepting them, it said I couldn't connect.

BTW....I am really enjoying the single player...much much better then San Andreas...which I couldn't make it past 1 hour with the gang-banging, police shoooting thug life. I hated that one mission where I had to kill the National Guard soldiers...UGGH.

I LOVED that Nico had a choice to save or execute that one guy on the roof.

I hope it continutes on that line.

If anyone knows how the hell to get out of the "old hospital" during the "snow" mission, please PM. I'm stuck as hell.

I agree. That is NOT a spoiler. Hell, every review I've read mentions that you get to choose peoples fate on multiple occasions. Plus, that particular mission is like one of the first few, not even an hour in. You've had the game a week and haven't gotten that far?

Is the level of violence in this game more or less than past versions? The only game I liked in this series was the one in Miami 1980s (vice city?)and I barely got thru that. The one where they had it in the hood circa 80s really turned me off. What is this game more like?

I find it to be about the same as the last two. Only difference is better graphics (which could be more disturbing).
