+1

How long until they have name for it? Immaculate reception's already taken of course... and it was more about the near-sack and scramble than the Tyree catching the ball off his helmet and holding onto it coming down on his back over the guys knee.

Great play by Eli and an incredible catch. Good thing NY won it, or it would have been a forgotten Super Bowl moment.

I thought the front 4 should have won the MVP. Manning was good but it was the defense that won this game.

They could be 18-0 again next year.

Especially if they keep Moss, Samuel and most of their other starters.

That will be the one play I buy SI or watch NFL Films for when they come out... truly a thing of beauty.

You know, Maybe Brady comes back and wins another SB, but I don't put him in the same class as other great qb's. I guess my first tier is Montana, Elway, Marino. Then my 2nd tier would be guys like Brady where I think he's more of a product of the system. I put Aikman in the same tier as Brady.

Farve is a hard one for me. He's like not as great as the first tier, but better then the 2nd tier.

Way to stick your neck out. I took the +350 moneyline on NY while I was in Vegas last week. Cha ching.

Going back in 4 weeks to collect. Priceless!
Far out! Congrats!

The Fox Postgame show said something to please the Belichick. Howie said something like, "Normally the Super Bowl losers aren't remembered but this time it's different. People will remember this loss."

And even though it's Saturday's news, looks like spygate might make a return.

Anyway, karma is a b*tch.

Actually the NE loss might take a lot of wind out of Spector's sails.

Yep that's what I think too. But if you are NE you would have taken the SB win and Spector's investigation rather than a loss and castrated investigation.

I thought the Pats played it too safe in the 1st qtr. Where was the trick/deep play to shake it up?? It's not like it didn't work, but they didn't even try... An early 2 score lead would have (prob) killed the giants game.

Asanti Samuel must just want to vanish right about now. He would've had that INT on the last NYG drive if he wasn't so worried about keeping his feet inbounds.

And how do you single cover Plaxico in the red zone AND bite on the slant? You can't let him beat you on a fade, fer chrissakes! LOL

Well, 9 times out of 10 when you bring 7 on the blitz, the QB will check down to a quick slant or a dumpoff to get rid of the ball quickly. The DB knew they were coming, so just a small slant fake by Plax finished him. I don't really fault him for it because most times, it is a slant.

Yeah there was no inside help at all.

Like on the Moss TD, the CB was a sitting duck playing back and letting the WR get a clean release.

More than the Giants winning, I'm just glad that the Patriots lost. I couldn't take any more of the "Is Brady the best ever?" or "Best Coach Ever" headlines on espn.com. The honking from the NE faithful is just way too much to bear, this should hopefully shut them up until the NBA playoffs :)

That fade was misthrown, too. If the coverage was even within a step of Plax, that pass would have been broken up since it was thrown to the wrong shoulder. Instead, all Plax needed to do was twist in the end zone for an easy catch.

Then again, Eli probably was so stunned to see Plax wide open that he muffed the throw a bit.

I'm still scratching my head this morning at how ill-prepared the Patriots looked to handle the Giants' pass rush that EVERYONE knew would come the entire game.

Hell of a football game. Quite the treat. Cool to see former Syracuse star David Tyree play such a big role in the win, including the catch on the final drive that will live forever in Super Bowl lore.

Congrats to all Giants' fans.

Take care,
PK

I'm a die hard Pats fan which includes being a season ticket holder. It's a painful morning here but kudos to the Giants. They were better prepared and they deserved to win. In 18 games the Pats were the aggressor and the team with the confidence. Last night they looked lost and completely outcoached. They had one thing to gameplan for in two weeks and that was the major matchup problem with the Giants D-line and they did nothing. The play calls were terrible, the protection plan was terrible, and as a result the Giants made Brady look pedestrian. And while i love having Belichick on my teams' sideline, his arrogance cost them when he didn't kick the FG on 4th and 13. Outside of potentially making it a tie game late (granted who knows what would have happened), he basically told Gostkowski that he had no confidence in him. If Brady drives them down in the last :35 and puts them in range does anyone think this kid makes that kick anyway after that?? Horrible decision.

Having said all of that, to say Brady isn't one of the best ever is moronic. Regardless of everything said above, regardless of being beaten into the ground thanks to his pathetic O-line, he drove the team down late in the game to put them ahead. He may have not looked like the 50 TD pass QB from this year, but in crunch time he did his job, the defense let him down. It just seemed storybook. Manning breaking out of the grasp of two Patriots, David Tyree making arguably one of the greatest catches in Super Bowl history, Brandon Jacobs reaching out on 4th and 1. It almost felt like it was written to go that way.

Again, i'm damn proud of the way the season went and while i'm depressed today i can appreciate that the Giants just were the better team last night for 60 minutes.

Pitchers and catchers report when again???

That was a hell of a game last night. I feel bad for the true Patriot fans that don't display braggadocio but I can't think of a less deserving team and fanbase to go 19-0 than the Patriots this year. Their own arrogance is what did them in IMO. If they wouldn't have gone for perfection there's little doubt in my mind that they would be Super Bowl champions right now. That overall meaningless game didn't catapult them to greatness, it catapulted the Giants to greatness.

I almost always root for the AFC team if the Bears aren't in the Super Bowl but there was no way in hell I would root for the Patriots. They prove time and again that they are classless and it was easy to root for the Giants without Barber and Shockey. They're actually a surprisingly likeable team without them.

Did anyone else notice that the Patriots didn't look confident when they took the field last night? Usually they walk around with an air of arrogance but last night they looked nervous.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

As a Pats fan, that was hard to watch. The OL took a day off and didn't adjust for any of the blitz. The Giants had a great gameplan and executed it flawlessly. They took the Pats out of the game and Eli came through in the final drive. Kudos to them. The Giants outcoached, outhit and out disciplined the Pats. The Pats bought into its own hype with all that 19-0 and thought they will just win by showing up. Too bad.

Congrats to the Giants and all the fans, they have an incredible run to beat the Cowboys, the Packers and the Pats to win it all.

What a game. What a season. It was a great year to be an NFL fan.

Brady is definitely one of the all-time best QBs. It's not like he lost that game for them. And he is better than Marino was as far as leading his teams. I don't know how anyone could put Elway ahead of him either. Brady could very well win a couple more titles before he is done. The only player I would consider putting ahead of him is Montana.

At the same time, I'm done with Eli Manning jokes for a while. He played brilliantly in the playoffs and kept his cool when it counted. He's definitely arrived and I think his career will really change at this point.

As for the Giants pass rush, I don't think many teams could prepare for it. They are one of the few teams who put pressure on you with four guys, and when they bring 5-7 players on a blitz, I don't think any team can handle it unless you dump it off, which Brady did all night. What the Giants did was take away the big play that the Pats have relied on all season. When the Pats tried for the big play, that's when the pressure got to Brady. New England's lack of running game made it that much more difficult because by the second half, the Giants defense was pass rushing on nearly every play.

The Manning-Tyree play may be the greatest in Super Bowl history. I think it's even better than Lynn Swann's famous catch and The Tackle from the Titans-Rams Super Bowl.

This game ranks No. 2 for me in all-time Super Bowl upsets and great Super Bowl games.

The Jets' shock of the Colts in 1969 still is the greatest Super Bowl upset ever. The Jets were 16-point dogs and considered to be the junior varsity from the AFL, given zero chance against the mighty Colts of the NFL. I doubt I'll see a bigger Super Bowl upset than that in my lifetime. The AFL was considered by many to be a halfway house between NCAA Division I-A and the NFL, yet the Jets spanked the Colts, turning Joe Willie into a prophet.

I still put the Rams-Titans' game of 2000 as the greatest Super Bowl ever. The game was on the line with a regular play from scrimmage -- not a kick -- on the final play of the game, and the Titans' Kevin Dyson ended up 2 feet short of the end zone. People forget that was an amazing drive by Tennessee to get that close to victory, as the Titans started at their 10 with 1:54 left and fell about 2 feet short of a chance to tie or win.

Where does last night's game rate in both categories for you cats?

Take care,
PK

For me the Rams v Titans in 2000 is the most memorable but maybe not the best ever. I only say that because it was a pretty bland game for the Titans until the last 2 mins in the game.

I would put the G-Men over the Pats as the greatest upset ever in SB history. Even though the Colts back in 69 were a force they weren't playing both for a SB win and to make history. Therefore the second biggest upset in SB history goes to the Jest in 69.

This is for Javi and all of the other Giants' fans -- the cover of this morning's New York Daily News:

Image

God, it must be a good feeling to be a Giants' fan this morning. Just once, I would love to feel the elation of the Bills winning The Big One. My Oil has five Stanley Cups, and each put me on top of the world. But damn it, I want my team to win a Super Bowl -- WAAAAAAHHHHHHH! :)

I agree - Brady is one of the best ever. When NE scored the go-ahead TD with 2:35 remaining I wasn't too upset. I would rather the Giants be down by 3 with 2 minutes to go with possession than be up by 3 with 2 mins and have the ball in Tom Brady's hands. That's how much I respect TOm Brady.

Against improbable odds, our G-Men came through :D

What a thrilling game. We've had the pleasure of hosting the SB parties for family and friends for about the last 5 seasons and never have we had everyone so fixed on every play. As a Giants fan, it was nerve-wracking to feel that we were outplaying the Pats through 3 quarters but still on the short end of the score. But boy what a fourth quarter we had in store.

From jubilation at taking the lead to deflation at Brady's march downfield culminating with the score to retake it, even the most optimistic among us could not have felt confident that the Giants could piece together such a thrilling final drive. Each first down brought us out of our chairs. On the "great escape" I remember breathing the words "Please let him complete this" as Eli went gunslinger and David Tyree brought that ball down. The third and 11 catch by Smith was perfectly executed. And when Eli and Burress connected on the final score, we nearly brought the house down. Alford's final sack on Brady was the perfect exclamation point on the game. And finally, when the last desparation passes were broken up, we could all exhale and take in the victory.

Congrats to the boys in blue and to the Pats for combining for the most exciting SB game I've ever seen.
