Isn't that the same s*** you cub fans complained about dusty doing? Not knowing how to manage in the playoffs? But I guess Lou get's a pass from Cub fans since he's so funny and charming during the post game press conf.
That's ridiculous. If you already have the runners in scoring position with no outs against the other teams best pitcher why the hell would you give them a free out to move them to third? For the sacrifice fly? I don't agree with that logic at all especially since the Cubs don't work on bunting that much. Yeah, if you actually followed the team for more than 3 games you would know that, but you don't. Seems to me that you should be able to drive in a run in 3 chances and if you don't you won't win a series. Oh, wait a minute, they didn't win the series. The Cubs don't bunt well at all, surely you noticed that during the series in the very few times they tried to.

You can question why Lou pulled Z in the first game when he did but with the way Marmol pitched all season it makes sense. I don't know why you're so pissy about Lou and defensive of Dusty. I have no problems how Lou managed the playoffs this year but I do have a problem with all of the runners left on base. That falls on the players, IMO.
What about letting Zambrano hit in the prior inning, though? Isn't it pretty much baseball 101 to pinch-hit for the pitcher if he's not going out the next inning? That's the move that I question. I can't believe there weren't any better hitters than Zambrano on the bench...

Looks like the house cleaning will start with Steinbrenner resigning in NY, we'll see what his sons decide to do with Torres and the rest of the gang. It's a great day in baseball, hope they learn what COL, ARI and CLE are doing with their teams. Enough inflationary, overpaid players hopefully.

Baseball can't be bought George.

It's a nice one-year phenomenon.

Let's not even call it a trend yet.

If Boston wins it all, then it's moot, all this talk about low payroll teams winning it all.

All those teams will see their payrolls rise. Or lose their good young players to the rich teams again.

Also look at it like this. Even though there is a possibility of a lower payroll team winning the WS this year these teams do not visit the post season year in and year out.

One thing that can be said about the Yankees is that they visit the post season what seems like every year.

This is just the 2nd time in Rockies franchise history.

What I've learned is that while although a high payroll team may not win the world series, they're giving themselves a chance each year.

One other thing. I can only speak for the Rocks, but if they don't up the payroll, they'll be playing with different names on the back of the jerseys sooner rather than later. They've earned their payday, and they'll get it. The question is, will it be in Colorado or NY, Boston, LA, etc etc etc.

After Hernandez got away with those 50mph pitches, I think you could just feel that Torrabla was sitting on a 50mph pitch and hit it out of the ballpark. and that's what just happened. Hell, I would like to bat at coors vs 50mph pitches.

Rockies are going to win the WS. They're the reincarnation of the 69 mets.

Mad props to the Rockies! Great game tonight against the d-backs. I'm going to be rooting for them to represent the NL and especially the NL West in the World Series. It was cool seeing Todd Helton so completely lost for words afterwards, you know he has been wanting this for a long time and probably never thought it would happen with the Rockies.

Yeah, Westbrook came up HUGE last night! That's how it's been all year with this team, someone struggles but then someone's always right there to pick them up. Same in this series. CC and Fausto have shaky starts, Westbrook goes out and shuts them down! Incredible!

And Kenny, WOW! What can you say? And that bullpen has been LIGHTS OUT!

And I don't think I've ever seen a double play out of that shift before, where the thirdbaseman covers the bag at second to turn it! That was AWESOME!!!!

We're having FUN now!!!! :D

GO TRIBE!!!!

(PS, Not to get ahead of myself, but *IF* the Tribe makes it to the World Series, I'm envisioning the Rockies having John Elway throw out a first pitch, just to f*** with us!!!)

It's raining pretty good right now (4 pm) in downtown Cleveland. You know the Red Sox are hoping for a rainout tonight so they can pitch Beckett in Game 4 tomorrow instead of Wakefield tonight.

They're saying "scattered showers" tonight. Hopefully they'll get it in.

What a fatal fifth inning for the Bosox. If K. Youkilis doesn't fumble that easy pop up foul ball and a destined double play doesn't end up tipping Wakefield's glove, the score could have been another one.

But kudos to the tribe, they took advantage of those opportunities and J. Peralta did the rest of the damage. They can wrap up the series at home.

Yeah, it would be GREAT not to have to go back to Boston.

I'm going to Game 5 tomorrow night. I can't wait!!!

I hope CC can finally get it together. Being at home, plus being up three games to one, maybe he'll be more relaxed, more like the CC we've seen all season.

GO TRIBE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If there's anyone that can save the Bosox's season is Josh Beckett.

CC better get his $*it together. Beckett has a big edge in post season success so I'm gonna say the BoSox take this game and Cleveland wins it all in Boston much to the chagrin of the Cleveland fans.

Can't wait to watch:)

Torre turns down offer to return as Yanks' skipper

TAMPA, Fla. -- Joe Torre turned down the New York Yankees' offer to return as manager on Thursday.

The Yankees offered Torre a one-year deal with a base salary of $5 million and incentives that would have increased his salary to $8 million based on postseason performance. Under that offer, if Torre reached the World Series in 2008, an option for 2009 would have vested.

He was an average manager before the Yankees and had success because of their payroll and big talents like Jeter, Duncan and so on.

Another team may offer him more years but more than $5 million?
