Bosox are choking big time. NYY are just 1.5 behind with the help of my Jays who complete the sweep with BOS. Aside form the injuries this year, this is what drives me nuts about TOR. They lose 2 out of 3 at home with the O's that are pathetic, and yet they sweep Boston who have a lot to play for.

That Boston offense is hurting big time. I know they haven't had Manny Ramirez for a while but it's still hard to believe how much they've dropped off. They're not leaving the bullpen any margin for error. Hasn't helped that all of a sudden the Sox are having problems with their setup men and their closer is pitching in really meaningful games for the first time.

Winning the division is even more important this year than year's past. Getting to choose between the series with that extra day off is intriguing. If the Indians end up with the best record in the AL, they might be able to throw CC and Carmona 4 out of 5 games. No one wants to face those guys.

I have to believe the Mets will win that division. If it were the Braves chasing them I might have some doubt. But don't the Phillies do this every year? Give the illusion that they're going to pull it off at the end, fall short, then proclaim themselves to be the favorites in the East next year?

Seventh division title in 13 years... not bad for a "small market team," 23rd in payroll.

Hopefully they get the best record. I didn't know best record not only gets home field throughout, but also gets to pick which series they want in the first round, the five games in seven days or five games in eight days. I thought the networks dictated that.

You know they'll take the five games in eight days, to guarantee CC and Fausto both going twice on their normal rest, if necessary.

Either way, it's gonna be a fun October. This is the best pitching we've ever had going in to the post season.

I am so F'n tired of CB Buckner trying to be a major league umpire. Top of the 1st in the Braves Phils game and he literally blows 3 ball strike calls...the last blown call was followed by a Texeira 3-run HR. Absolutely inexcusable that this guy has a job in the league. In the next inning he ends up drastically changing his strike zone and screwing Escobar and Renteria on pathetic calls. Its so hard to watch knowing your team's chances lie in his hands. I can't even see straight right now.

Things are looking bleak for the Yanks in the east. I saw that Manny Ramirez played last night so the Sox are picking things back up again. If the Sox manage to hold on, it will be well deserved because they played the best throughout the season.

I'm glad Torre didn't go balls out with the pen last night in an effort to win the division. He could've burned out Vizcaino, Joba or Mariano. I've always thought Torre's handling of the bullpen arms in the past was his biggest weakness as a manager, most notably the way he turned Tom Gordon into a walking corpse for the 2004 playoffs.

I am NOT relishing the prospect of facing CC and Carmona in 4 out of 5 possible games though.

Mets bullpen has a leading roll in this incredible collapse.

Even if somehow the Mets get in the playoffs, they're prime for a good old whooping in the 1st round. The offense is doing the job, but the bullpen has been dreadful.

I don't know about those Mets Javi, they sure make their fans lose their share of hair. Hottest team in the NL: How about those Rockies.

Those damn Yankees were presumed dead for the season around May and here they are making it into the playoffs. Turnaround? I think they did well by going to their fountain of youth instead of paying outrageous money to washed-out players. They still have some of those players in the team though.

My Jays will finish their season the same way theiy started. With key injuries. Both in the bullpen and clutch hitters like V. Wells. B.J. Ryan was missed the most IMO.

It's been pretty firmly established that the way a team finishes the regular season has minimal correlation with how a team will do in the playoffs.

Short series in particular a crap shoot, and any team's post-season chances ride on swings in sample sizes so small that they are damn near arbitrary.

Just get in and hope that someone gets hot.

That 9th inning in Philadelphia was bedlam. I kinda hate the towel waving but contrast the images of the Philadelphia fans with the scene at Shea last night and you never would think that the 2 teams shared the same record.

It's all lined up for Greg Maddux to win the Central Division for the Cubs. If Zambrano can get the Cubs a win and Maddux and his Padres beat the Brewers the Cubs win!, Cubs win!

Stomach-punch. Congratulations City of Brotherly Love.

Tons of respect for Glavine, but if he decides to continue playing, I don't think it can be here.

Awesome win today, f'n incredible. I have no other words on the matter.

On another note, one of the good guys of our game played his final game today and I had to give him his due respect. He killed my team in 2005 but all I will remember about him, to steal a Branch Rickey quote, he was as good a man as he was a ballplayer and he is all there is of both. Thanks for a tremendous career Craig Biggio...hip hip

True.

Congratulations to the Philles and their fans.

They showed a TON of heart and deserved to be crowned NL East champs

What a colapse by the Mets, really a shame.

At least the Mets collapse takes the focus off the Brewers inability to take the weakest division in baseball. All we got out of this season is being able to say we had our first winning season since 1992.

Cubs win division. Mets suffer collapse of epic proportions. White Sox win 72 games, vindicating the BP projection which had all the mouth-breathers swearing at their parole officers in the pre-season. If LaRussa validates the rumors and leaves StL, this will pretty much be a perfect regular season :)

Let the post-season crap shoot begin...

The guys at TBS and MLB must be racking their brains right now trying to figure out how to schedule the four division-round series with as little overlap as possible. It's gonna be tough with only one network.

Yep...going to 9th all tied up at 6...more interesting at the moment than the Pats kicking the Bengals ass.

Atkins possibly robbed of a HR (hard to tell, even with the replays) and then MVP candidate Holiday gives up the lead by mis-judging a routine flyball to left.

I'm not feeling good right now.

Oh, there's a football game going on right now?????
