Jack:

Terry made my Oilers' Cup and Aero88 cars. Otherwise, I have downloaded more than 200 cars and trucks from sites around the Web.
JackB1 wrote:My one race with the cup cars was fun, but I personally preferred the extra forgiveness of the Aero's. They are extremenly challenging for me, but I will try and hang with whatever you guys want.
Dude, your best race lap at Cali was 40.4. That's very solid race pace; now just work on consistency, as all of us except Terry must do. You're doing just fine.
JackB1 wrote:PK.....I moved the linear slider all the way to the right and like it better.
As I move my wheel, the wheel on the screen moves exactly the same amount. More realistic IMO.
Cool. Glad you like it. Terry gave me his wheel settings yesterday, and they're KILLER. I love them. He is my NR 2003 svengali. :)

Take care,
PK

Yeah I'm not sure if it was the alcohol or what last night, but that seemed to be even more ridiculously fun than normal. Screwing myself up in the first race was hilarious. Couldn't hear the penalty, so I spent a couple of laps making various runs through pit road under green. I felt like such an idiot! Then, added to that, I raced Smurfy tooth and nail for a couple of laps because I thought he was -1L with me, and it ended up that I was an annoying lapped car going 3 wide with the leaders. Very silly, and I'll apologize AGAIN to Smurf. When I saw the leaderboard after I was out of the door-to-door stuff I felt like smashing my face on the wheel.

And you guys are improving by leaps and bounds. A 40.4 race lap isn't anything to sneeze at, Jack. It's tough to get down to the 39s and still save the tires. You have to almost be like a robot...you can NOT jerk the wheel or overcorrect or you'll burn the tires up more than you can imagine. You have to hit the exact entry speed, the correct line, apex it at the right spot, and straighten the wheel smoothly on exit. If you drop the hammer while you're still cranking the wheel to the left, you can literally watch your tire condition meters drop...it's that fast. You shouldn't be applying heavy throttle until you're coming out of the corner and you're starting to move the wheel back to its center position. If you miss any of those, the tires will burn up and/or your lap time will suffer. Consistency is key, like you guys have already noted. You're getting the handling down a bit better, so now you can start applying repetition and working on consistency. It's all a learning process, and I'm still learning myself.

As for cars, Jack. I can make them...I used to do it for years. I had my own little website domain and made cars for probably half of the guys that I've run in leagues with. I'm a bit out of practice now, though. All you have to do is find a car that you like (or have someone to make one you want specifically) and download it. If you send it to me and it's on the server side, at least you'll be able to run with it. If the server doesn't have it, you show up as the plain green one like Don was in last night (or silver, or red, or yellow, etc). As long as you and the server have it, you can at least see yourself in it. Don literally saw his own car as that plain green car last night. If Brad packs your car into the zip, it will be downloadable for everybody.

And control settings...linearity at full 100 has never done it for me. It gives you 1-to-1 wheel control, but also makes it twitchy at high speed. You turn the wheel a tiny amount and it really affects the car a great deal. I have settled on an 80 to 85 linearity value over the years. It gives me the turning ability I need without causing a small adjustment on the wheel to send me careening into another car in a plate race or something. Just personal preference.

But gang...good work! This is getting more and more fun by the race. A full-green race in Cup cars at California is no small task for any group...

I had a blast last night. And Terry doesn't have to apologize one bit because that was by far the most fun part of the race.

It's too bad that I spun twice because I was too busy trying to find the right function key to pull up the fuel or tire information :(

One caveat regarding the yellow-free second race at California - I spun on the front straight and dropped 20 seconds. I was wishing for the yellow but didn't get one :p

Anyway, it was really fun. Great job guys!

Here's the photo finish from the first race:

That was too close. I shouldn't have tried to show off until I crossed the line

Holy sh*t -- that was a finish for the virtual ages!

My only regret -- other than finishing second -- is that my b*tchin' Red Lobster paint scheme doesn't show on my car! :)

Thanks, Smurf, for the replay shot. That was serious fun!

Take care,
PK

Here is the last car I used when I was racing competitively a few years ago. Still trying to figure out how to hi-res the car, but it'll do I hope.

I actually didnt even have the car anymore. It was still be hosted on the original site I used to keep it at.
