More of a good thing, boys: NR 2003 tonight, Cup style
OK, boys:
Last night was a great night of NR 2003 racing, from all accounts. My head wasn't in it due to fatigue and dumb driving, so I left. And I'm a jealous mofo!
So let's race again tonight. Same time (10:30 p.m. ET), same host parameters (thanks, as always, Terry!) but with one change -- let's step up to NEXTEL Cup.
Terry thinks we're up for it, as we are driving and racing much better. Plus it will be fun to see how we adapt to the top class. I've asked Terry to give us a gentle, wide track, such as California or Michigan, to ease the learning curve.
Hope to see you cats at 10:30 p.m.! I'm really looking forward to it, as always, especially as more and more guys jump on the NR 2003 wagon!
Take care,
PK

Learning to drive different cars can only help, not hinder. The only thing about the Aeros is that they breed some bad habits, honestly. You can do some dumb stuff in them and get away with it, whereas in a Cup car you will pay for it dearly. If anything, the Aeros are an "Ok, get your feet wet" class. A lot of guys have their feet wet now, so I don't think it's too out of the realm of possibility for them to baby the throttle a little and try a Cup car. If it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. Back to the drawing board. But racing is racing. I don't care if it's an Aero88, a Cup car, a f*cking lawnmower with a wing on the side...I'll race it.
The Cup cars let you get a little bit crazier and the limits aren't quite as low as the Aero88's, which are fun once you know how to drive at all. Most of the regulars now know how to drive (at least in bursts), so it's not really that much of a step up. Easier on the gas, easier on the brake, and easier on the steering wheel and you can drive a Cup car.

I have to agree with Brad, but there's no harm in giving it a try.
If it's a crash/yellow fest, we can always come home to Aero's
BTW, Not sure if I can make it tonite...I may have a WE League game at 10:30, but can be there right after if that's OK. If my 10:30 game doesn't happen, I will be there at 10:30.

I'm no NR2003 whiz, but nothing helped me learn how to drive a Cup car better than the Aero88's. They're the ideal training wheels.
When I first got NR 2003 in December and into January, I couldn't get into the 42's at California with a Cup car. Hell, I struggled to get into the 43's before crashing.
Then I started running the Aero88's, and things clicked. The Aero88's tolerate less precision, so I was able to learn the basics of lift, wait until apex and gently accelerate with a more forgiving car.
When I returned to the Cup cars, I used the same principles and was in the low 41's and high 40's immediately. Now I'm in the very low 40's and high 39's during hot lapping without a tow at Cali.
I'm VERY much against locking into one class of car. This game has four great classes of NASCAR vehicles, using three different physics models (Aeros and Trucks are the same). Why not take advantage of all the game has to offer, especially when all three physics' models are different and so much fun?
Take care,
PK

I've seen posts at numerous forums that the GTP mod doesn't work with an "alternative" copy of NR2003, Don. That's a bummer.DChaps wrote:Someday we need to hit up the Trans Am and GTP mods as well.
Glad you're in tonight!

Terry almost always opens the server at 10 p.m. (EDT), 30 minutes before we officially start practice. That will give you some good seat time, or practice offline if you have the time.
Join us, man!

Boys:
Here's the Red Lobster Chevy I'll drive tonight:

If you want to add it to your Series/Cup/Cars folder so you can see it when racing tonight instead of a bland car, get the file here:

I think it's a sharp-looking car, and I like Red Lobster's food.
Take care,

Man, that was a hell of a good time again last night, fellas. REALLY enjoyed it.
How does it get any better than the first race? Smurfy and I finished in a dead heat after 50 miles at California, with him sliding into the wall at the stripe. The computer gives him the victory by a hair's width. I've never had so much fun finishing second! Excellent, clean three-wide action in the final five laps, too.
The second race wasn't nearly as close, but it was fun because it was caution-free. Everyone was really focused on running consistent, clean laps.
I think the transition to Cup cars has been successful -- and FUN AS HELL.
Let's do this again soon, boys, and add more drivers to the DSP Papyrus Posse.
P.S.: I now have everyone's online cars. Thanks, Brad! I may add a couple to my stable, as I like to jump around. I have 187 Cup paint jobs on my hard drive, including the default cars.
Take care,
PK

Question.........Are you guys making your cars or downloading them from somewhere? I would like to personalize my car, but I dont know where to begin.
My one race with the cup cars was fun, but I personally preferred the extra forgiveness of the Aero's. They are extremenly challenging for me, but I will try and hang with whatever you guys want.
PK.....I moved the linear slider all the way to the right and like it better.
As I move my wheel, the wheel on the screen moves exactly the same amount. More realistic IMO.
