Boogity-boogity: Anyone for NASCAR Racing 2003 tonight?
Anyone up for some NASCAR Racing 2003 online tonight, with an IP connection like Saturday night? That was fun as hell.
10:30 p.m. (EST)? Any track preferences?
Take care,
PK

PK,
You're lucky I don't have the power to temporarily ban people. Your use of "boogity-boogity," even when using it in conjunction with NASCAR racing, would surely lead to some time in the penalty box.
I managed to get this game for Mac--anyone know if I'd be able to join in on your online races? I can't get the damn thing to run very well right now and I don't have a wheel, but if those two obstacles are overcome, it'd be fun to be a backmarker.

I know: "Boogity-boogity" should be punished by a ban. But 'tis the season to say it, I guess.
It's also better to hear "boogity-boogity" once from DW than "he got up there by hisself" 10 times per race from Larry Mac.
Take care,
PK

I'll be there. Can host if need be.
Oh and my car: save it to your NR2003\series\cup\cars directory.

So far there's just three of us. I'll check in around 10 p.m. and see if there are more. I'd like to get at least two more so we have more human-on-human racing.
Terry, any choice of track if we run? You know the best mixes of driving skill and "raceability."
Thanks,
PK

Atlanta is a really fun, seat-of-your-pants track. Dover's pretty fun too. I think Atlanta is the next step up from plate tracks as far as difficulty...slight lift, punch it again and hang on through the corner. Fun place to run, and fast as sh*t.
Short tracks would be murderous, plate tracks are fun but not much required, and you'll need some more seat time to really have fun at the California/Michigan/Vegas style tracks, where getting down to corner speed with any kind of stability takes a bit. Could run it tonight though, but my vote would be for Atlanta.

I turned some laps at Atlanta the other night. A real roller-coaster.
How are the cookie cutters like Chicago and Kansas? More banking than Cali or Michigan, but not as fast as Atlanta.
I'm game for Atlanta, if that's what you cats want. How many laps? How long of practice? I'd like to wrap up everything by midnight (EST), if possible. Need some Z's.
See you at 10:30 p.m. (EST). Terry, please repost your IP address, if you could.
Thanks,
PK

Chicago and Kansas have a bit more banking than Cali, that could be fun too. Default Fast sets on most of the mile and a half tracks are the most stable, too. Hell, anywhere they will work, just not with AI. Might only throw a couple of AI out on the track tonight and see how it works out. Chicago could be really, really fun.

password is siam007, as usual.
I'll be putting the server up in about 15 minutes (10EST) with probably a 60 minute practice session setup at Chicago. It will be running default Fast setups, Hardcore mode for driving aids, yellow flags and a full pace lap with realistic weather. I'll leave the AI in there for now, but only run 10 of them to just give us something to mix it up with.

As always, that was fun as HELL. I'm slow, but man, this game is fun. It also proves that there is a lot more strategy and skill to oval racing than just turning left.
Good call on Chicagoland, Terry. It was a nice mix of off-gas/on-gas without being stupid fast. A really good place to learn rhythm. Plus there is plenty of room to race.
The only problem we have is that you and Adam are in the 90th percentile or higher when it comes to racing the AI, and the rest of us are lower than that. So the AI tends to run people over, especially me!
But that's a minor concern, one that can be fixed by slower guys getting faster. And the pit strategy options are very, very interesting when you're slower than the AI or fastest humans.
Adam, you drove a hell of a race, especially the last two laps. I thought you were going to catch Viagra Boy at the end, but the crop duster -- BDunn!
-- couldn't slow Martin down enough. Great run.
We need to do this again soon, boys!
Take care,
PK

What happend at 'tona PK? We were side by side with me being downlow and then you were behind me.. It looks like you got off the gas as you were scared I was going to hit you.. Just note, I will usualy hit the wall or go onto the apron before I hit you....
- after that you lost your draft as did I and we were out
I am amazingly(is that a word?) slow out there. I remember being pretty good when we raced this a few years back. I guess that just shows how much I practiced back in the day.
.. next time out we need to hit up Texas, Atlanta or Charlotte.. all fun fun tracks.

Yes and no. When we were side by side, you were a bit wiggly. Not sure if it was your car or maybe some latency. So I decided to lift slightly and tuck in behind you so we could work together toward the front as a small draft pack.bdunn13 wrote:What happend at 'tona PK? Good idea, bad execution. I wiggled a bit when I lifted and lost your draft almost immediately. My fault.
You have a fellow slowpoke here. We work well together.

Take care,
PK

If we get enough people at each session, we can just turn the AI off completely. You'll end up running some solo laps from time to time, but I am beginning to think that the majority won't mind some in-race practice laps.
So next time I vote no AI, Atlanta.

Sounds cool. What do you think is the minimum number of DSPers to make races without AI fun? Six? Eight?
I'm more than willing to help guys get this game, and I have even less remorse than usual. The game is out of print, and it's going for $100-plus on eBay, which is criminal.
Take care,
PK

Five or six can make it runnable, honestly. You'll usually have a couple of fast guys, some medium guys, and then slow guys that can duke it out. Without a train of AI cars barreling through, it makes it easier for the backmarkers to get out of the way when a car DOES lap them, and also serves as "practice laps" for guys who need the seat time while in a race environment.
Eight+ is optimal, though. The game can handle a full field of human drivers, and I used to host 20+ on a connection that was one-third of my current one. So the question won't be how many do we need....the question is how many you can get

Cool.
ANYONE who is curious about this game and wants to get into it, please PM me. The game is four years old, so it doesn't need NASA computer specs to run.
Hell, my 1.7 gHZ, 1 GB RAM laptop only has 32 MB of video RAM, and I get 30 fps with 42 AI cars running.
I know I'm very late to the party with this game, as you cats raced a lot with it when it was released. But the thought of 12-14 DSPers duking it out is nirvana.
Take care,
PK
