I watch every Oilers' game -- thank you, Center Ice! But the Mess tribute will be moving and memorable.

I sure hope Slats comes back for the ceremony. Healing is long overdue in that situation.

Take care,

I'm not a big Garrett fan. He seems to be the Paul Maguire of TSN analysts -- wears thin after a while. I much prefer Hughie with Greg Millen on HNIC. But the common denominator is that Hughie is great with whomever he's paired.
10spro wrote:Good win for your Oils last night, and J. Stoll, what a warrior blocking two shots that just about killed him during a PP.
Stollie -- my favorite Oiler -- has been horrible offensively this year, and there are whispers about him being used as trade bait for a puck-moving defenseman after the New Year. But as long as he keeps winning draws and playing defensively like he did last night, he's still a very valuable player.

I think I know the reason for Stoll's offensive problems -- he's doing all of his scoring with Rachel Hunter (Rod Stewart's strawberry blonde ex) these days. They are an item. She's 14 years older than Stollie and a MILF Deluxe with cheese. He's a god. :)

Yeah, I was watching the game on TSN. They showed Stoll limping off the ice, then in the hallway on the way to the dressing rooms... he collapsed, tried crawling on all fours, and then just laid there.

I thought he was done for until he came back in the third!

That's a hockey player, in a nutshell. In hoops or baseball, a guy with similar injuries would have gone on the DL. Only football players and rodeo cowboys rival hockey players for toughness.

I think rugby players can go on that list. And here's why:
If ever there was one moment when New Zealand’s Wayne “Buck” Shelford embedded his name forever into rugby's rich history, it was during the infamous “Battle of Nantes” in 1986.

Playing only his second Test for the All Blacks against a physically intimidating French side, Shelford found himself at the bottom of a rather aggressive ruck on 20 minutes.

An errant Les Bleus stud found its way to his groin, where it somehow managed to tear his scrotum, leaving one testicle hanging out.

This alone would leave most men screaming in agony and heading for the nearest hospital. But not Shelford.

He calmly instructed the physio to stitch him up.

The French public were gobsmacked as an over-eager pitchside cameraman filmed the stomach-turning surgery, and even more so when Shelford returned to the field and carried on playing...

Absolutely. Big oversight by me. Sorry.

As someone who fell in love with rugby this year due to Rugby 06, I have really enjoyed watching matches I downloaded online.

Amazing what happens when your top two offensive players are hurt, huh? The Oil wins again with great defense, taking a game at Dallas, 2-0.

Edmonton has allowed just one goal in the three games that Smyth and Hemsky have been out of the lineup. Second straight shutout for Roli.

Great game for Jason Smith on D. Blocked a ton of shots, active stick, moving his feet -- by far the best game of a rough-starting season for Gator.

The Oil is 8-2-1 in its last 11 games. Not too shabby!

Take care,

Tell me about it. 'Nucks score four goals with 6 regulars out against the Stanley Cup Champs. Although they did lose a 3-0 lead at one point, they kept their composure in OT.

Someone had to give in as Turco had 2 SO's going into the game. Important win for your Oils.

You look at all the division standings and by far, this one is the toughest. Between 1st and last place there's only a six point difference.

Yep -- nice hookup by the Sedins for the winner. I heard the fine call -- as always -- by Hughie on TV in the background while I burned a couple of discs.

Toughest? I'm not so sure. I don't know if I'd want to be in the Pacific, banging heads with Anaheim, San Jose and a healthy Dallas eight times each per season.

Most competitive? Probably, along with the Northeast. The resurgence of Ottawa has made that a very strong division, with Buffalo and Montreal also playing well.

And for the second straight season, there's no question which division is the worst -- the Central. I predicted Detroit would go down early in the playoffs last season due to its soft intradivision schedule, and I predict the same fate for the Wings and Nashville this year.

Compare the Northeast or Northwest with the Central, which sees three of its five teams with less than 25 points, and the Central is a joke.

Oh yeah, the Pacific is tough but other than the three teams that you mentioned, LA and PHO are pretty much out of it. It's amazing how ANA still has 3 losses in regulation. In the NW any team can take first place at any time during the season if VAN and COL can keep up this pace and I don't see that happening in any other division. The NE division is tight too, but BUF is definitely the better team of them all at the 30 games mark. The Central as you mentioned has been always NAS and DET, that's it. Sad.

As much as it pains me to say it as a Flyers fan, that kid is one hell of a player. He doesn't do it with blinding speed or overwhelming strength or athleticism, the kid just keeps his feet moving and shreds defenses with his skill and passing. Unbelievable.

Another great performance from the Blues last night. It's official, this team has quit on Mike Kitchen. A coaching change is on the way, not to mention quite a few player moves. Heads are about to roll in St. Louis. There is a lot of interest in Eric Brewer right now, he'll probably be the first one out the door. It really just depends on how the Blues want to play it, if they want to make a quick move soon or wait until the deadline and maximize their potential return on a deal. HNIC hot stove reported that there are several teams looking at Brewer right now, including the Rangers. Brewer has disapointed in St. Louis for sure but it's not all his fault so a change of scenary is going to help him and whoever lands him is going to get a decent player. He might be the most sought after player at the trade deadline.

As if things weren't going bad enough for the Flyers this season, Richards and Sanderson go down with 'serious' stomach injuries last night. The team is now playing without their 3 top centers (Forsberg, Carter, Richards), their 3rd leading scorer (Sanderson), their best defensive forward (Kapanen), and their best skating defensemen (Pitkanen). Yikes.

Nyet. As of right now, that would be Chicago defenseman Brent Seabrook. A ton of teams already have called GM Dale Tallon to inquire about Seabrook's availability since the Hawks have two young, talented, puck-moving defensemen in Seabrook and Keith.

So far, Tallon has rejected all offers. But if a team desperate for an offensive defenseman -- cough, clear through, uh-em, Edmonton -- comes to Tallon closer to the deadline with an attractive package, he might bite.

Seabrook isn't quite in Phaneuf's category among second-year defensemen, but he's close.

Prayers go to Montreal's GM B. Gainey as his daughter is still missing during an incident over the weekend over the Atlantic waters. She was part of the crew. About 10 years ago, Gainey's wife died of cancer. Hope all turns out OK.

Yeah, what makes the story even more sad was that Laura Gainey was getting her life in order after her teen years were filled with drug and alcohol abuse after her mom died. Her work on the ship really was helping, from what I've read.

I liked the trade! Even though Handzus is out for the season and only played 8 games he had 3 goals, 5 assists, and was a +4.

I'm wondering what's up with this too. 2 years ago this kid was supposed to be a shoo-in for the number one pick in the 2006 draft. While he's more than holding his own for an 18 year old in the NHL, this seems very bizarre. Hope it's not a sign of things to come.

No doubt. Kessel was dogged by rumors of a "lazy, bad attitude" all last season, which caused his draft stock to drop. Remember, there were scouts two and three years ago who put Kessel on the same or a higher level than Crosby.

I sure hope this isn't the start of a Bryan Fogarty nightmare for Kessel. Still the saddest story I can recall in sports:
