OT: Logitech Harmony 880 remote $109

yeah, I like the URC's too. I have a Pronto tsu3500 that I used to use. But I started using the Logitech due to how easy they are to setup. Plus they are wife friendly. No more calls at work from my wife saying "the dvd player isn't coming on"

Do these remotes do a better job of supporting discrete codes?

Like for instance, you have a TV with more than 4 inputs and you're switching between them all the time.

Last time I looked around, Harmony may or may not have had discrete codes for my TV.

So if I have a console on input2, DVD on input3, DVR on input4, etc., are there codes so it goes directly to the right input without cycling through them?

The Harmony sites didn't really show if my particular TV was supported with discrete codes. I'm sure it is. Guess I could have asked at AVS or Remotecentral.

yes, my tv has 8 inputs. When I first set it up it was scrolling through each input (took forever). But I found out how to do the discrete codes and now it goes straight to the correct input.

So the Harmony site lets you set up the discrete codes easily?

Because a couple of years ago, it sounded like some Easter egg or some quasi-hack you had to do.

Yes. It's a drop down menu and you just select the input you want the tv to go to when watching tv / dvd etc.

whats your tv make and model # ??? I can tell you what inputs you can choose from.

The other issue is RF support. I'm getting used to the RF on the Direct TV HR20-700 DVR.

Not sure I want to pay for an 890 though. But it's ridiculous, I'm juggling 4 remotes regularly.

Still, I really wonder if a universal remote would let me change the zooming or the Twin View setting on my TV, which I play around with often. Or even enter the menu modes of this different gear.

Yeah, RF will cost you alot more. The IR on the one I bought is actually pretty good. 10x better than the remotes that came with my TV and DTV Receiver.

just punched your TV in my setup and it is showing 7 different inputs that can be used. All 7 inputs are showing up in the drop down menu so the discrete codes are there for each input. As far as the zooming and tiwn view, the remote should do these fine. Any button on the original remote will work on the Harmony. You can put these 2 in the LCD screen if they are not mapped to one of the normal buttons.

I got it setup last night. It took me about 30-45 minutes to hook it up to the PC, code it.. test it.. tweak, rinse repeat.... until I got everything working the way I thought it should.

From what I can tell, this thing kicks butt. I have already put away all my other remotes(5 total I believe) so I better have it coded right

The web interface for programming everything was actually pretty nice. I was impressed about how easy it was. They did a nice job.
