World Series discusion

I am not disagreeing that the umps shouldn't have checked more, or that baseball shouldn't review this after the season. But the umps did check, Rogers removed the substance, and no one AT THE GAME thought more action needed to be taken. You're going to suspend a guy based on video of a substance on his hand after an ump checked it and said he wasn't cheating? WTF?

It's not like he failed a drug test or something -- no one can say exactly what was on his hand. Maybe it was pine tar, maybe he's not so good with toilet paper.

As a completely neutral observer of this World Series, it bothers me that a player may be getting away with cheating right in front of everyone. It's one thing to say everybody cheats a little at some point, and it's another to completely turn a blind eye to something that is happening right in the fan's faces.

Why is it so hard for MLB to say this is the rule, and when a plausible objection is raised by a team, we will investigate, and respond accordingly the evidence?? As a neutral I personally feel pretty letdown by how the MLB has treated the whole thing. It shouldn't be complicated.

It's all good man. DB and Brando made some great points with their last posts. Take it for what it is and enjoy it. I love baseball and since my team isn't in the WS I have hitched my wagon to my hometown Tigers.

I am going to take Tommy Lasorda's advice and "Head to my TV!!"

The whole thing kind of reminds me of that scene in The Naked Gun where Leslie Nielson frisks the Angels pitcher and pulls out the sandpaper, Vaseline, and the electric sander

And if it was something, it was removed after the first inning and he pitched a hell of a game. It's not like it was discovered at the 8th inning or something.

When FOX was doing the super slow motion that they do, you could see scuff marks on the ball when Carpenter was pitching. I have it DVR'd.

I knew there was no way a pitcher could pitch that well.

I wish they'd scrap the whole interleague play all together. I'd rather play NL West and East teams more than just twice a year.

I too wish that they would scrape the interleague play. For instance, this year's World Series would have been much cooler had Detroit and St. Louis not just played earlier in the regular season, but instead hadn't played against each other in 40yrs or whatever it's been since their last Series hookup.

As a Indians fan, when was the last time a regular season, oh wait, the last time any part of a season had some source of significance in Cleveland?

Mets didn't go all the way, but at least their season had some meaning.

They ended a historic run of consecutive division wins for Atlanta, the world got to see 2 stars in the making(Wright and Reyes), Beltran cameback from a horrible 1st season in NY to a MVP caliber year, young pitching showing promise(Perez, Maine), they have one of the best bullpens in place for next year including the return of Duaner Sanchez, etc etc. I could go on, but there is no need.

Not to get into a pi$$ing match here, but the Tribe went into the last week of the season in 2005 within a game of Chicago. They obviously didn't make it, but it certainly had some meaning...

Sorry if I came off sounding like a d*ck. I didn't mean to. I know as a Tribe fan I got no room to comment on the Mets' season. Hell, back in the 90's the Tribe wrote the book on having great regular seasons only to accomplish nothing in October.

It's just that I think regardless of who wins this Series, and interleague records aside, the AL is still slightly ahead of the NL talent-wise top to bottom. But hey, a Cardinal win this year could mean that the gap between the two leagues is starting to shrink, who knows?

Either way, I'm glad the NL decided to show up for the Series this year. It's been fun to watch. Now if only this damn rain would stop.

No matter who wins the WS, this has been a very entertaining post season. Even the last few weeks of the regular season were filled with lots of suspense and great games.

I'm so hooked on baseball right now that I'm hardly paying attention to the NFL.

It's just a shame there's been a rainout and the probability of another one is relatively high for this evening. This weekend in St. Louis is supposed to be beautiful spring like weather. I'd hate for there to be too long of a delay in completing the series.
